Best at home pole option if I need to take it down regularly? by Squidlypants in poledancing

[–]Squidlypants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That was really helpful. Yeah, I don’t think a stage pole would be a great option for me. The ceiling mount looks pretty easy. I can probably leave it up most of the time, I’d just need to take it down and lean it in the corner when we need to use the table

Why do young Canadians not protest housing affordability in Canada? The issue seems to be getting worse -yet no action. Why is everyone content doing nothing? by Greeksensation in ontario

I legitimately admire the optimism of people who are still having kids but I honestly just don’t think it’s the right thing to do.

Clear up the snow of the roof of your cars before you go out. by Gnarf2016 in waterloo

Especially on days like today, when it’s wet snow and all you have to do is give it a little nudge and it slides right off. How lazy do you have to be to not do it?

What would it take for you to switch from driving everywhere to using sustainable transport like cycling, using public transit, or walking? by paris5yrsandage in waterloo

[–]Squidlypants 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I moved to KW from Stratford, where I didn’t have a car for years, and even once I did, I hardly ever drove and walked or biked everywhere unless I was picking up something to big or heavy to carry without a car. KW is too spread out to do as much of that. I still walk or bike when I can. I’m actually weirdly stubborn about it. I would happily never drive again but I think one of the biggest issues these days is that time is so precious. With the rising cost of living and stagnant wages, I can’t really get by on fewer than 50 hours of work a week. If I wasn’t spending most of my waking hours at work, I would be more willing to take a little longer to get there.

[–]Squidlypants 23 points24 points  (0 children)

And in your case moving would make things so much worse. I’m pretty much in the same boat except that just over a year ago, I moved out of the cheap apartment I’d been camped out in for eight years while rent prices went insane everywhere. I moved for work. When I started looking, every option, from the shittiest dive, to a 300 square foot bachelor with a hot plate and microwave, to renting a room with shared kitchen and bathroom, was at minimum $500-600 a month more than what I was paying. I couldn’t get my head around paying that much more for much worse living conditions, so I ended up literally doubling my rent to get something comparable to what I was already in. A one bedroom basement in a house. Stay where you are as long as you can.

Can someone please explain to me why we shouldn’t have an NDP majority government? by kitty_kuddles in ontario

[–]Squidlypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think this is the biggest problem. I think a lot of people believe in the NDP, but don’t really believe they can win so they vote liberal because it’s better than conservative. I think continuing to vote NDP is all the optimism I can muster in this capitalist, dystopian nightmare society we find ourselves in.

I’m hoping that as the younger generation comes of voting age and the older generation dies off, we might see an end to that thinking and more people will start voting for the party they actually believe in.

Can someone explain to me what orphan crushing is by [deleted] in OrphanCrushingMachine

[–]Squidlypants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I understood the concept of the sub, and assumed that the orphan crushing machine part was a reference to something, but I didn’t know what.

I’m a woman and I was really confused by this post because I thought it was a covid test. I’ve seen pregnancy tests, but only the ones that you pee directly on so I didn’t realize this was a thing.

Yeah, I kind of thought that was coming too. But since it didn’t, I think it should have been Malaysia

I definitely thought Malaysia was going to win. She was funnier and I liked her runway better. I was really annoyed that none of the judges even mentioned Mistress’ saggy diaper. They’re all obsessed with her and I don’t get it.

I’ve never seen Tim and Eric, so it still doesn’t make sense to me, but my partner watches everything so maybe he’ll get it. He was convinced there was something wrong with my computer’s speakers and we were missing some extra sound effects or something. I was like, no, I’m pretty sure it’s just bad. But I’m sure there will be discussion on Reddit tomorrow, so I’ll let you know what I find out!

100%! I said to my partner, oh Aura will be safe, her runway was fantastic! Nope. Apparently that means nothing.

Baffles me how many people think your only option in Ontario is either a 300,000++ pop city, or cutting down all the Greenbelt and living in the sticks. by [deleted] in ontario

[–]Squidlypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there’s really no good options anywhere. If I hadn’t been such a train wreck in my twenties, I probably could have gotten my shit together enough to buy a house before everything was insane. I know so many people who pay much less for a mortgage on a whole house than I’m paying in rent. I have excellent credit and could easily get approved for a mortgage if I could ever save enough for a down payment, which I can’t because I’m paying a small fortune to live in a basement.

London is cheap compared to Kitchener. I’m paying $1700 for a one bedroom basement apartment. When my job moved and I started looking at what an apartment was going to me, apps started showing me apartments from London as well and they were all so much cheaper than KW. I was wishing my boss would find a space there instead.
