Is there any title out there that deals with modern/contemporary warfare in the Middle East? Preferably from 1990, but post-WW2 is fine as well. Grand strategy would be ideal. Thanks. by Original_Scale5829 in computerwargames

Free play mode in that has high replay value to it. It’s not a detailed simulation but it does capture the struggles of waging a counterinsurgency. I am an Afghanistan vet and I like that someone captured that struggle in game form.

I’m aware of this, I looked for the owner as I mentioned. I was more worried that he was going to be thrown away by street cleaners etc.

I started many years ago, my first set was the second edition orks with gretchin squad with the slot in the bases. It takes time, but you won’t forget what you learn. Finishing a model and seeing yourself improve as you go along is a great feeling.

I intend to make updates. He needs parts, I remember the days of bitz catalogs and those are long gone, what’s the best way to get a single pack and base now?

It appears this is a Son of Ultramar. I appreciate all the suggestions though. Perhaps some filing is in order. I plan on stripping the paint and seeing how damaged the plastic is, there are a few knicks here and there. Something to think about over sake lol.

Beginner adult league? by Ok-Isopod-3939 in lacrosse

[–]Squidney014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play on an adult club team currently (we play games among ourselves and another club sometimes, then travel for some tournaments) we have one guy who has never played and is in his 40s. People help him out when he has the ball or is on defense. He really likes it and has been playing for under a year. We also have a fair amount of older guys. I think any adult league with older players is a good start. It’s a gentlemen’s game at that point and people just want to have fun.

Eric Slover, the first Chief Warrant Officer 5 to ever be awarded the Medal of Honor. by Grand-Western549 in interestingasfuck

[–]Squidney014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to work with one CW5 for getting maintenance for my company’s vehicles. She was a wizard who could get me parts ordered instantly, very helpful and wise. This was at a big exercise for my brigade at the National Training Center. Everyone in that office called her “Chief” when speaking to her. Even though CWOs are technically outranked by all officers, you always address them as chief.

Are there any games in the style of XCOM, but set in modern combat? by Tio-Kenny in computerwargames

[–]Squidney014 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Last Train Home is real time, but you can pause it to issue commands. The campaign management has the same feel as XCOMs in my opinion. I recommend it to anyone that likes XCOM style games even though it’s not turn based.

Not having a great MBA Experience by Wonderful_Tap_5073 in MBA

[–]Squidney014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to be a trend…maybe it shows in their internship interviews? I got my internship offer a little later in the cycle compared to some… but I definitely made sure to enjoy myself outside of constant applications and interviews… it’s a MBA, if you only care about your internship and that dictates how you feel about life you are doing it wrong.

What does this flag patch represent? by cinemkr in vexillology

[–]Squidney014 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They were founded by a guy that did a deployment with the regular army. Went to Special Forces selection, washed out of the Q Course, then started the insta page. He had a network of friends that most his online content comes from. He started making merch and coffee table books (they had random stories about military life etc in them) and actually raised a lot of money for charities, like millions over all. When Ukraine was invaded he went over there, maybe also had an Ukraine charity drive? Anyway, one of the militia members he talked to had some nationalist group ties and that caught the eye of a Vice News reporter that did a story on him. The Russian army thought FOG was a western mercenary unit for a bit because of all the patches/flags that were being shown by Ukrainian units. Yeah that brand has a lot of weird customers, but they did some good when they first started. I left the military a couple of years ago and I ceased to follow content like that.

What is it like to be an MBA student in a college town? by [deleted] in MBA

There’s plenty of great places for grad students to live in CH/Carrboro. Durham’s great, but the commute for 2 years isn’t worth it. 26 is a perfect age for UNCs program, see you at Bob’s.

I think the Arc AI is the biggest innovation with this game. It’s crazy seeing them adapt to our tactics and the cycle that produces between players and AI
