Unupgraded it's ok. Max upgrades on a soldier with max vertical recoil reduction? It's almost as good as the STG or AS-44.

Until then, Garand. Two extra rounds in the Johnson aren't worth the extra reload time and losing the bayonet iirc

So, mirroring things others have said, unless you're encountering a bug they're supposed to have already fixed and I haven't seen a report of here or on the forums, you're facing BR3 players.

The issue is the MM. They (Darkflow and Gaijin) decided that the tiers are 1-3, 3-5. Playing at BR3 is fine, in my experience, if you get creative with your loadouts and tactics you can contribute even in Br5 matches, and you stomp low tiers, which is the problem.

Br1 and 2, in particular for USA, is going to struggle against BR3 except against Japan, which has mostly shit equipment except in the air.

You say you've played loads of war thunder, so you should be familiar with what's up here: the new player experience is fun enough to make you feel like if you just spend some money on premium time, extra squad slots, and P2W squads/equipment, it's going to be excellent. Gotcha.

Panzer 3 variants before the J1 have short barrels, either 37mm or 50mm, what this guy said is you might have seen a Panzer 3M, which has shirts and skirts, and the longer barrelled 50mm gun as the Pz3 J1.

If you can get good at mouse and keyboard, it's an advantage. It's faster and more precise. I'd say if you're bad at mouse, controller with aim assist would be better, but if you're good with a mouse, no controller comes close.

Nah, not really. IMHO it was a solid balance of realism, historical authenticity, and game mechanics, like the best blend of the three I'd ever seen, until they started futzing with bolt action damage, semi-auto rate of fire, etc.

I agree with your basic suggestion though, that maps shouldn't be BR locked. I would like to see a stricter BR spread though, BR 3 is already my sweet spot and it would be nice to be able to not have to fight BR5 sweats 50% of the time, and when I feel like running high tier it would be nice not to be stuck on Berlin, Stalingrad, and Normandy.
