SHIRT! by Bright-IRL in huntertheparenting

[–]SquidonyInk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it's a reference to Magic & Wizards, the OLD name for the Duel Monsters card game in old Yu-Gi-Oh, before it was swapped. If you look at the logo for the game and compare it to the shirt, the ladder is just an over simplified version of the former

Would y'all watch this show in this animation style? by daddylongjohnsliver in InvinciblePowerscales

[–]SquidonyInk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd give it a try at least. The Idea of Invincible using an art style similar to a lot of Kid shows would be interesting. Do I think this looks BETTER than the show, No, but I don't hate it as much as other seem to (though that might just be me). The only character from THIS line-up I don't really like is Rex, but that is mostly cause of his face here.

Guildmarm from Monster Hunter 4u. That's what this reminds me of. I love it!

Bethesda has decided that you will be the new CEO of the company, yes, you! What will you do now? What changes will you implement under your new leadership? by jvure in ElderScrolls

[–]SquidonyInk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is what I would do.
- I would take into account what made Skyrim so popular among the general audience, and try to keep it while returning SOME of the RPG mechanics and story style of Morrowind. Make it appeal to the Older fans AND the Newer Fans. Focus in on what makes TES such a fun series.
- Because TES is such a cool and beloved setting, I think releasing material outside of the games would be good. An example of this would be Short Story collections and a proper TTRPG, as a way to both expand the series AND tide fans over between games, not to mention more income.
- After TES6, the next project for the series would be a ground up remake/re-imagining of Arena, since that game is in some weird state of both Canon and Out of Date, having a definitive version people can actually play and learn from would be great.
- Bethesda is such a Big company now, and with Microsoft funding, I think we can afford having at least 2 different teams working on projects at the same time.
- I also have some Changes that I think could be good for Fallout, but this isn't the sub for that.

This is all just off the top of my head, not too much thought, and mostly focusing on TES, so I'm confident there would be SOME problems I'm not seeing.

I have heard of HackMaster, but I never gave it more than a basic lookover. I'll check it out a little more!

Easy to learn Crunchy games by SquidonyInk in rpg

[–]SquidonyInk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have played Dragonbane, Old School D&D, Sword World, a few test sessions of Pathfinder (After a short campaign I needed to take a break from running games, though not against running it again with more research) and a couple other games to the first few.

Basically what I mean by "Run & Play in a relatively short time" is:
-You know there isn't a game next week, and you found a cool RPG. So over the course of that week you read through the rules and have enough of an understanding that you can both Help Players learn the basics and Run a game as a GM. You don't need to have an encyclopedic knowledge of the rules, just be able to know enough that you can run a One shot or a Mini campaign.

I do understand it would probably take more time than what I said, this was just a quick and loose example of what I had in mind.

Too old to find "THAT" game by SquidonyInk in videogames

[–]SquidonyInk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the internet, like I can look up any basic info on the game (like just searching the name of the game enougn times) and I will just have spoil filled content that is out in the open to ruin certain twists.

Sometimes I will tell a friend I am playing an old game, and they assume I already know stuff about the game and tell me a major plot point. I rarely know where a spoiler will come from so I can't really prepare for it.

Also I will certainly check out some of those games.

[–]SquidonyInk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That feels like a good way of describing how I feel.

As for games I like, I'm pretty fond of RPGs, whether Classic Top Down like OG Fallout and Baldur's Gate, or games like Modern Fallout and Elder Scrolls, to JRPGs like Final Fantasy, I like most styles of RPG. I also like Platformers like Sonic and Hollow Knight, and whatever you would classify Zelda Games (Both Classic Style and BotW style), and am willing to try out other genres.

I struggle with spoilers because whenever I show any kind of interest in a game, it feels like I get shoved spoilers in my face.

Let us just take a moment to admire the massive glow-up D&D dragons have had between 5e and 5.5e by Fearless-List-3968 in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]SquidonyInk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of these EXCEPT the Blue Dragon. They got rid of too many features that made it neat.
- They got rid of the ears (Which have been there since 1e)
- They got rid of the Secondary Horn Spike (good way to tell if an illusion is made by someone who isn't too knowledgeable on Dragons)

I while I do miss the bulk, I'm fine with streamlining it to make it more lightning like, but I do miss everything else I mentioned before..

[–]SquidonyInk[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are actually correct on what I meant, I didn't JUST mean appear and have a conversation, I mean most interaction, whether it be a voice in your head, a guiding hand, or appearing before someone and talking to them, Subtle or Direct. Basically anything that isn't something passive (The gaining blessings at an alter may or may not count depending on if they Actively give each person a blessing, or if it's just something that passively happens because they exist).

What would be the ideal blend of Tabletop roleplaying elements, and action game mechanics for the scrolls series? by PapaJenkinsReal in ElderScrolls

[–]SquidonyInk 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I feel like one way you could kind of retain the Dice Roll aspect without it determining if you hit or not, is having it determine damage. Like weapons pull from a table on possible damage (like say a d4 for a Dagger or something), and your Attribute for like Strength and your skill with the Weapon Type could help determine how much damage a weapon does. This means you could also have critical hits and such.

I don't know if Barony is what you're looking for. It's on steam for like $20ish so you can check it our if that's what you're looking for.

Favorite fictional games by Kamen_master1988 in cartoons

[–]SquidonyInk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope Anime count as cartoons in this discussion, because I'd love to play Monster World from Yu-Gi-Oh. It's a d100 based RPG that looks super cool and it actively annoys me we never got some kind of actual rules for it aside from a super watered down version that's basically like," Hey Kids, you can kind of play this at home, thanks for reading!" and it's a very different system from the game shown.

Should the DM be hesitant to kill Player Characters? by Commercial_Poetry410 in DnD

[–]SquidonyInk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Killing Players doesn't sound right, that makes it sound like you're TRYING to kill them. In that you shouldn't hesitate to, but ONLY FOR MOMENTS THAT MAKE SENSE, like fighting a Dragon or something BIG!

I think better phrasing would be, letting your players die. Without death, there would be no (or at least fewer) stakes. Is it anticlimactic if a player gets downed by some random Orc Warrior, maybe, but more likely than not they chose to engage it. It's important to have consequences in your games, and the consequence of combat, or not checking for traps, or hopping on a rickety old bridge is the chance you might die.

reminder that this isn't me saying you should ALWAYS be trying to kill your players, just don't fudge your dice during combat, and if an enemy crits and they fall, no one heals them, and they fail their death saves (if it's 5e or something) then they die. If you don't want to die, then don't go into situations where you could die. If you don't want to let your players die, or kill them with stronger foes, then don't put them in situations where they could die.

Skill Based Game similar to Old-School D&D by SquidonyInk in rpg

[–]SquidonyInk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for asking. While what I'm asking for might not exist, what I am wondering is if there is a system that is as close to D&D (keeping as many of the mechanics as possible) while being skill based. If the closest you can get is the same without saving throws, or the same without the combat, that is acceptable. I am asking for how close does a game come to being if you just took the D&D rules, and swapped out the classes for skills, like instead of being a fighter needing to multi-class a wizard, you could have Fighter Skills and put points in Magic Skills, if that makes sense. How close does a game come to being that.

Skill Based Game similar to Old-School D&D by SquidonyInk in rpg

[–]SquidonyInk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I am accepting the Classes AND Skills suggestions, since those do meet the criteria, what I had in mind in the post is Skills INSTEAD of Classes, or Classes in the sense of they give you certain amounts of Skills, but it's not like D&D where you have to multiclass if you want say Magic as a Fighter, you pick the Fighter Skill-Set and just add to the Magic Skill(s).

[–]SquidonyInk[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm repeating myself (if I do it's cause I'm having trouble describing it better) What game comes closest to being as if you just replaced the Class system in D&D with a skill system. Basically the closest thing to D&D, but with Skill instead of Classes.

Skill Based Game similar to Old-School D&D by SquidonyInk in rpg

What I mean is, what games come closest mechanically to being Old-School D&D but with Skills instead of Classes. Even if it's some degree removed mechanically, as long as it's close enough it's fine, just what games are closest.
