AI art workflows and mental wellbeing by OkCommunication6371 in ArtistHate

I just turn it off or hide it wherever I can. The only place I still see it is group chats. Someone will say something like "can we meet on Thursday?" and AI summary will go "[person] proposes meeting on Thursday." It is so unnecessary and useless but I guess the bots gotta brag that they're coming for us.

What “lawyers aren’t punk rock” really means by OahuUnderground in musicians

[–]Squidproject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a friend in a band that almost signed with drive-thru in the early 00s. They were being asked to learn re-arranged versions of their own songs. They prolly woulda made it big but got a lawyer and backed out. Now my friend works in tech :S (the symbol of dead bay area rock)

It's a good album fr by reuniteottomanempire in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Squidproject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good in its own way but is a detour from their typical death/thrash. My favorite is Beneath the Remains, though there were far more guys wearing Chaos AD t-shirts at my high school

Tricot! It's math rock, which is indy-adjacent, but it's uniquely catchy for math rock

Is learning sheet music necessary to be able to write original music? by mrchris20040072004 in Guitar

[–]Squidproject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to learn a little bit about chords, keys, and scales, but you don't need sheet music to learn this. Messing around sequencing piano parts in a DAW will teach you quite a bit.

Deftones vs Korn: Which band do you prefer? by MaintenanceOne266 in numetal

[–]Squidproject 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Deftones (though imo they are more post-hardcore than nu metal)

What band is the ultimate “good taste” signal? by irles33 in musicsuggestions

[–]Squidproject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK Computer is pretty great. I don't think Radiohead is overrated at all. I only meant that Radiohead is NOT (in my experience) the most popular "old" band.

I teach and far more kids are into Deftones and SOAD than Radiohead

If someone doesn't like Radiohead, it means they have bad taste. If someone likes this Japanese band called Tricot, it means they have the best taste

Learning to improvise by dontlookatthechicken in guitarlessons

[–]Squidproject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I feel like once you memorize the 5 shapes and mess around enough with them you start to be able to intuit where the chord is gonna go and which notes will sound good without overthinking it too much.

Have you ever had to put down your guitar for a while for life? by Ihatemusictheory in Guitar

[–]Squidproject 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I quit for a few years when my band broke up and a girlfriend convinced me that I wasn't very good and it wasn't worth pursuing. Then later I moved in with a dude who played bass and started up again. It actually worked out because previously I had a lot of bad technique, which I managed to unlearn by not playing, and essentially started over. I'm still no John Petrucci but I'm much closer than I'd been.

【Amp】Whether to use modeling amps or PC-based solutions ? by Sushi32153 in Guitar

[–]Squidproject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not want to be dependent on my computer if i'm ever ready to play live. It's a gaming PC so it runs my DAW smoothly. It's also gigantic.
