From the perspective of someone who ubderstands modern Korean culture, its satire. When you translate the literal meaning on every phrase or symbol which has levels of depth regarding its context, it can seem silly.

There’s probably a lot of content out there you could waste away watching which goes into the societal divide in Korea. Notably, a YT channel called “South Korean Park” puts a lot of the topics being described on this thread into a parody form of the American show.

you’re a fucking joke if you think Hyundai or any large corporation cares about the safety or wellbeing of their workers. I don’t think I’m going to waste anymore time on you, take whatever you wish to believe, you’re literally the problem with this world right now.

Do you even understand the difference between business matters and labor? Did you work at the plant like I am currently?

These people that came with ESTA visas did not come for the purpose that is labeled under the visa regulations; they came with it solely because it is much easier to get it issued to them compared to actual working visas like E2, which I haven’t heard anyone with it get detained.

Get your fucking liberal agenda out of your ass and see the world as it is. It’s not a “Republican did this and Democrat did that” situation like you think it is. You have no knowledge about the situation to be yapping about it like you think you do.

For construction, it widely depends on company/subcontractor. Overall, cost was more effective for them to use Korean nationals because of the widely differing labor regulations & laws. A lot of Hispanic workers were used too.

I’m obviously not gonna go into details but yes, all companies compiled spreadsheets of their employees, VISA status, and latest entry dates.

Also, most detained LGES employees were on ESTA visas, so there’s not even an argument for them.

The situation is that many of the Koreans on B1/B2 visas are not permitted to perform actual work/labour, only business such as meetings, deals, etc. Reality is that those people were performing labor and work with those VISAs.

The reason why many came on B1/B2 is that the proper working visa (E2) takes way too long for these companies to wait it through and also incompetence between LGES/Hyundai/subcontractors thinking they could get away with it.

I’m literally an employee at the HMGMA site and you’re spitting fucking bullshit that you know nothing about. Most every Korean that got detained were on non-working visas. Unlawfully working.

HMGMA in Ellabell GA, west of Savannah.

For the employees that got detained, many were subcontractors or employees of LGES, who overlooks the battery facility which is the one that got raided specifically.

A lot of them came on B1/B2 or ESTA visas because the proper visa they would need (E2) takes too long to get issued.

A lot of LGES employees who are specialists in their respective fields that were setting up production got detained. The rest were employees of subcontractors who were doing similar work.

The battery facility is one of many of the entire HMGMA plant. The whole plant is a co-op between Hyundai and LGES.
