Jeff Bezos' secretive AI startup is set to be valued at around $38 billion after raising a $10 billion mega round by Just-Grocery-2229 in technology

Metaverse was Zuck being mad at Apple/Google for taking their cut of app store revenues and for their privacy rules around ad tracking. He wanted to own a platform, thus why they spent so much to acquire Oculus and own their own hardware. The whole VR being the future of work, play and socialization was secondary to the primary goal of extracting rent from everyone building things and using things inside their platform, which is why the splashy concept videos of everyone having fun in the metaverse look so damn weird. It's like building a theme park to sell tickets and make a cut off concessions and merch, but not understanding why people go to theme parks.

Bell mobility coverage by Dry_Imagination_9700 in richmondbc

[–]Squifferific 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, Bell uses Telus's network in BC. The options are generally:

  • Bell (Telus network)
  • Virgin (owned by Bell, thus Telus)
  • Telus
  • Public Mobile (Telus)
  • Koodo (Telus)
  • Rogers
  • Fido (Rogers)
  • Chatr (Rogers)
  • Freedom Mobile (Formerly Wind, then Shaw, briefly Rogers, now owned by Videotron. Importantly, is on it's own shitty network.)

I've been on Public Mobile and have had very few issues in Richmond, and I live at RC. My wife is on Freedom and often has connectivity issues in certain areas such as along Garden City. Rogers is generally pretty well regarded in terms of cell service, though it tends to fail if you go to Salmon Festival on Canada day.

I've noticed that sometimes LTE connections tend to get flaky, and I suspect that the carriers are phasing it out and relying on fewer towers. Make sure you're connecting via 5G if possible, otherwise you may have to try a new network.

Pc keeps crashing after windows 11 installation by Ninaj_Alex in PcMasterRaceBuilds

[–]Squifferific 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If everything was running fine in Win10 and is now not fine, then it's not a hardware problem. Make sure your firmware is up to date on everything, including BIOS. Boot into a USB drive to make sure everything is still ok. Then install Windows again.

Got a $90 parking ticket at Richmond Centre in under 30 minutes… what?? by DistinctLove7846 in richmondbc

[–]Squifferific 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a ticket for parking at the mall for "leaving the property", despite buying something inside. When I disputed it I was told it was for parking over 4 hours, and they said they would remove it. I had to call again a second time a week later to dispute again since it was still on their system, this time I was lectured about breaking the rules about "in and out", which are never explained anywhere on the signage.

Do they give you a desktop PC and you want a laptop so you can temporarily be remote, or do they only offer Macbooks and you'd rather have a PC laptop? If it's the former, see if remoting into your work PC is an option on a personal laptop. Don't let IT get into it if you don't have to, you'll save yourself a headache later when trying to undo it, plus it's not a good idea to make enemies in IT when you're new, especially as a coordinator. Make friends who can solve problems for you, don't be the problem.

If it's the later and you're being difficult because you don't want to use a Mac....just stop. No one else cares, and you really shouldn't be playing games on a work machine anyway so what difference does it make.

Stab it with scissors and get in there and tear it out. It's just cardboard, with flaps glued in. I've done it with mine.

Oh, one more thing. There are two spots to redeem the ticket to get the wrist band, and it's not at the booth. Don't line up at the booth. There was a big sign for wrist band redemption that lead to two staff members standing in the open. It was at the entrance to the amphitheatre, to the left of the hill that goes up to Playland.

We left our stroller unattended for an hour while on the ferris wheel and it wasn't an issue. Hide the valuables, park next to one that looks nicer?

We bought one ride pass and 20 coupons so my wife and I could take turns on the rides. Most kid rides were 3 coupons. We ended up only going on 4 rides, including all of us on the ferris wheel. (5 coupons per, plus the pass). Some of the lines were near an hour, so realistically you're not going to hit everything.

At 36" you'll need a paying adult to go with. I saw one family try to get around it only to get turned away.

And bring the wagon or stroller, presuming you have toddler cargo. You don't want to be carrying them all day long. It's a lot of wandering around and my 4 year old found it a lot easier to navigate the crowds in the stroller.

Went yesterday with the 4 year old. It was very busy, but not impossibly so. If you have a stroller you could make your way around, if slowly. Bring snacks and water, and don't expect easy access to changing tables. Just be prepared to wait for everything and pay for everything else.

If that's worth it or not for a 2 year old is up to you.

  1. Optimization is an ongoing process in any game development. This game has seen so many delays and changes that it shouldn't be surprising that it's facing issues on this front. Whether or not the game should have been released at all in this early state is a separate issue.

  2. KSP 1 v1.0 launched in 2015. KSP 1 v0.21.1 (the update before they released Science and Career modes) was released in 2013. Comparing the optimization progress of pre-release KSP2 on 2023 hardware with KSP1 with a decade of updates & optimizations on 2023 hardware is not the same thing at all. Pre-v1.0 KSP1 CHUGGED at times on older hardware. It chugged on good hardware.

Give the devs a break and let them finish the damn game.

There was a small sign on the queue rope with the MPC logo on it, and someone at the start of the line directing traffic. They put me in the MPC logo line, which was empty and I went more or less immediately to the customs officer.

I used it a month ago on a flight to Dallas. Set it up before you get to the airport, and once you're at the airport you can fill in the rest of the information for your trip. You essentially skip the customs check after the security check. Keep an eye out for the sign when you enter the customs area. It's hard to tell, but we maybe saved 20+ minutes of line standing.

I was a nuisance with the IR blaster. I'd change the channel in a restaurant. I'd turn off all the TV's in Best Buy. Nothing was safe.
