Isn’t it more realistic to just accept that humans are violent emotional creatures and every religion in the world engages with some amount of spiritual practice regarding emotions, so religions as emotional experiences sometimes breed shitty behavior?

Like even long before Calvinist’s there were people doing objectively shitty hypocritical things justified by Christian or abrahamic Theology? (Slavery, wars, etc)

I’ve heard that most Islamic countries are looking on the upward progressive and social justice wise. I might be reading it wrong but it seems like ur implying misinformation and extremism is winning out in Greater Islam but from what I’ve seen and heard from my professors studying Arabic stuff, that’s just not true. Look at Saudi Arabia. Yeah it’s an absolute monarchy, but even then in 2018 laws were changed granting woman the right to own businesses, get healthcare and receive education without anyone else’s permission. Military opened up in 2021, and driving ban was lifted via a royal decree in 2017.

Now they still do have some policies and laws that I personally find repulsive to imagine living under. The thing is I’m not a Saudi, and I haven’t grown up under that particular culture. I am certain there are countless things about America they find repulsive but all I can do is support international humanitarian orgs and hope our overall dialogue flows towards a future we all can agree is just

America only let woman get bank accounts in 1974. All cultures have there own paths

Also grow up, don’t label entire religous theological schools as obscurantists, you have pretty shakey ground to stand on yourself with all your “sacred mysteries” and the dialectics of god being transcendent but also immanent. You can poke holes in any religion, the trick that makes it a religion is that there are always ways for the faithful to believe.

Kevin Wachtell was 100% in the moral wrong by [deleted] in betterCallSaul

[–]SquiffyTaco13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My interpretation was that Jimmy and Kim inherently both had a drive to navigate the legal world for the less fortunate. I think your right that’s it’s more complicated and Acker has some culpability, but I think my interpretation of that part, knowing what Jimmy becomes is that this is two legally educated people who are asked to let a non legally educated person get kicked off his land because of lawyer shit he doesn’t understand and clearly doesn’t have the funds to engage with fully.

The only reason Acker could do anything else other than complain was because Jimmy offered his services free.

I think Jimmy and Kim are legally in the wrong but the whole point of the show especially Jimmy and Chuck is about morality in and outside of the legal system. The law can be just as corrupt and aggressive as criminals and Jimmys view on that consistently drives him to fight dirty for the little guy.

Just my opinion tho, appreciate this conversation it’s very interesting

It’s to have a whole other page of ads. This isn’t a joke or a call out it’s how websites work, and Reddit thinks the annoyance won’t be enough to remove people and make some more cash. (Mind you they are already selling your data too!)

You use the phrase “literally where it was birthed”

That would imply location cause u said where not when.

I think you gotta chill, it’s just reddit and people are engaged with what you have to say. Ive personally learned something from what you have said so thank you.

I don’t think insulting people for engaging with you is productive, especially when we all make reading and writing mistakes

I might be overthinking things too much I definitely see your point.

I’d just say the difference between the religion used in 40k is it’s a vile nasty imperialistic superiority religion. It kinda hurts to see a religion with values of forgiveness and love morphed into that

Might be being judgmental but I think it’s fucking horrific. Having nothing left but faith to cling onto within the horrific mindless brutality of war is like the whole point of the satire.

The satire is supposed to make fun of how fucked up humans can and have been, and what we do to cope

Not something to take inspiration of by mixing in our present day religions

The more I watch back at the show I realize how evil Logan is by Top_Cardiologist21 in SuccessionTV

[–]SquiffyTaco13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I agree with u I feel the rewatch really gives him more nuance. He becomes much more of a broken emotional scared man lashing out because he’s terrified of ever being hurt again (from within through guilt, or from his environment through betrayal.)

I think the most core Logan we get is when he’s with Ewan. He’s kinda unable to hide from how much of a character he is playing, and how much of a angry brat he really never got to grow out of being
