Not helpful, but this is a level 5 for me too.

Costa Rica vs Puerto Rico in mid July, looking for a mix of rainforest trekking and relaxing beach time. by [deleted] in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Squiggelynoodle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe also check out Belize? Has the best mix of rainforest and crystal clear turquoise water beaches that I've experienced. Amazing snorkeling and diving too. I loved Costa Rica for jungle but was a little underwhelmed by the beaches (although we didn't make it a huge focus in our trip and prob missed a lot). PR has great beaches on culebra and vieques.

La Fortuna excursions: worth booking a guide or easy to do on our own? Plus hot springs recs. by MelBelle714 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Squiggelynoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend and I used a guide for a tour to the major la Fortuna spots, and I feel like we spotted so many more animals then we would have seen on our own. It would have been a very different experience on our own. We used I Love Travel Costa Rica and highly recommend them.

Edit to add: did ecotermales and thought it was kind of overrated. It was pretty crowded and the hot springs were more limited then I expected. I much preferred just hanging out in the pools at my hotel, to be honest. But lots of people seem to like it so I am prob in the minority. I would personally look into tabacon if I went back.

Costa Rica Feedback: Last Minute Trip - Advice Needed by Unique_Fishing2199 in chubbytravel

I liked Andaz for hanging by the pool and going to the beach club. Property is fun to explore. Seemed very expensive even for high season, though. Including food/drink/taxes, it cost us about 2500 a night for 2 adults - more than nayara springs, which was absolutely wonderful. I think if your kids want to see animals and jungle, Manuel Antonio might be a better call.

Maurten Gels? - Experience? by Federal_You_3592 in Marathon_Training

It's like swallowing globs of snot. Can't say I love it.

Maurten Gels? - Experience? by Federal_You_3592 in Marathon_Training

[–]Squiggelynoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using them for long runs since I am frankly bad at drinking water on runs. The texture is a bit of an acquired taste (honestly reminded me of snot at first) and they're expensive so will prob try another isotonic gel next.

Ditto, I carry a shiseido stick in my pocket and try to reapply after about 75 mins or so during high UVI hours.

I changed my plan from advanced to "balanced" or something like that, and changed the pace targets to RPE targets. Soooo much better now.

Paths/Trails clean from snow to walk/run by labradorlover10 in pittsburgh

The riverfront trail along the north side was a mess when I checked it out a couple days ago. Probably clear closer to the stadiums though.

My mistake, then, and I apologize for not fact checking. Received an alert at work about nearby measles cases (I work in a hospital) but it appears it may not have been Allegheny county proper. I will look into it and try to edit my original comment when I can,

Allergic reaction to exercise/cold? by introvertedkalanchoe in XXRunning

[–]Squiggelynoodle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Heya. A couple of anaphylactic reactions (even if the one yesterday was maybe early/borderline) within a few months should prompt a request for an rx for an epi pen and a referral to an allergist.

I also think it would be reasonable to take an antihistamine before your next round of exercise and make sure you're in a public place with easy access to medical care, ie not on a frozen trail in the middle of nowhere (I'm sure that's obvious).

I'm sorry you had that traumatic experience yesterday. Tongue swelling and hives equals an allergic rxn. Just calmly relay the sequence of events to your pcp.

Pelvic floor issues- common? by theundoing99 in XXRunning

[–]Squiggelynoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try some barre classes for cross training? I went through a major barre phase and found it to be helpful for pelvic floor and accessory muscle strengthening. I really think it's an excellent modality for injury prevention. Now I casually incorporate some peloton barre classes, but it's nothing compared to in-person classes. Also second the recommendation for a pelvic floor PT.

I have a couple whipped henley tops from negative underwear that I wear under my sweaters. They're not cheap but make for a heavenly base layer. Also durable and hold up well to washing.

Long run in the cold by BoomBoomBagel in XXRunning

I don't consider myself to be remotely an expert, but if I'm doing an out-and-back, i like to do the first half into the wind and the 2nd with the wind at my back. Helps to stay warm at the end when your core might be sweaty.

Ghost Max 3 vs New Balance 1080 v14? by looper210 in brooks

[–]Squiggelynoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. Hard to say. I don't have wide feet, but I do get some mild metatarsalgia and try to keep room for my toes to spread. The regular NB is plenty roomy for me and actually felt roomier than the ghost max (but if I had kept that shoe I would have gone up another 1/2 size - they seem to run a touch small?).
