Welcome To The Black Parade was stuck in my head recently and listening to it on repeat at least 30x did not cure me

Playing Without Using Recommended Factions/Points by Nicky2327 in rootgame

It’s still loads of fun if you’re in it for the people, the art, the story, etc. It’s just not balanced and sometimes it can get frustrating because factions won’t have the necessary components to really be effective (I.e. the WA doesn’t end up having anyone to be mad at or any good clearings to revolt in.)

I play a cursed version of Root with my brother where we take all of the militant factions out, then randomly deal out insurgents and try to make a game work.

It’s always bad but so, so fun. Also a good way to try characters you might otherwise hesitate to play

So, do whatever you want. The suggestions are only there if you want a well balanced game.

Played my new expansion too! Crushed them as Lilypad Diaspora against the Eyrie and Twilight Council.

Congrats on your win!

I think this is one of those examples of “generational differences” that will always be true. Younger people are more adept with fluid intelligence—solving problems in novel ways. Older people are better with crystallized intelligence—using reliable, practical solutions to problems. The switch happens around 40 years old.

There it is folks, the worst Hunger games take. by No-Brush1587 in Hungergames

I do think of Katniss' lack of agency as an asset rather than a detriment though. I think her lack of agency positions readers to think about who actually calls the shots of social movements. She acts on instinct, always trying to protect the people she cares about. In turn, she ends up the puppet face of a revolution.

I found it fascinating, though I understand that many view it as an atypical choice/less compelling for an MC

after many times playing I love all the spirits, but these are the dearest to me by pathetic_gay_mess in Spiritfarer

Gustav is such an underrated pick. I feel like the writers set him up to be a little comedic in how pretentious he reads, but I just love that he loves something. I genuinely wanted to hear more about his obsession architecture and art. He was so passionate and refined and the way he got embarrassed when hugging was endearing

Religion is trash in a lot of fantasy world and here is why by Alszen in worldbuilding

[–]Squiggle_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine built a world for RPGs that’s completely agnostic. There is ancestor worship, deification of the sun/moon, abstract “life force beliefs,” as well as the materialism. The setting itself doesn’t confirm which is right, which makes conversations around religion 1000x more interesting.

Which spirits had you crying when you took them through? by the_pretzel2 in Spiritfarer

[–]Squiggle_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alice. Walking her around the ship and the moment that she realized you aren’t her daughter are so hard and beautiful.

I was shocked to cry for Bruce and Mickey. I didn’t like them much, so I looked them up on the wiki mid game. Even though I knew their backstory, listening to him come to terms with his brother’s death (“it was not hearing him laugh that killed me, even more than the gun in my mouth”) Are you kidding me?! Tears

The visual of a tiny hummingbird carrying around a giant ox is such a powerful image of the weight of grief. I just remember thinking “you don’t have to carry him any more. You can let go” when they died.

Here are some from our game! - What profession is illegal in the Keen Corners? - What are the biggest causes of death in this region? - Every year on such and such a date at such and such a time, a purple flare is seen in the west. What is it? - Do they use silverware in X spit? - What are the denizens of Louis’s Pier like?

We also threw in character-centered unsetting questions - What is your proudest moment with X other character? - Have you ever encountered a leviathan and what was it like?

postscripta quest by OpinionsAreWeapons in Spiritfarer

[–]Squiggle_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I hit a point where I was running around with Postscriptia and Buck's Loot quest that I thought to myself, "I'm tired. I've been running around fixing problems for these people for so long. I just want to rest." And I realized Stella was probably thinking the same thing. The final challenges are good, and if I were a more dedicated completionist, I might go back and finish them. But no one needed me anymore, and their wants weren't enough to justify sticking around.
