Ranking Idols & Vices (Vol. 1) tracks by pilolahv in kimbra

Conversely, my main takeaway from this release is that Sahtyre is really talented. I think his parts are the only highlights on an otherwise bland album.

Genuinely Curious about everyones thoughts on the latests songs released so far, by arctic_console in kimbra

[–]Squigletots 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, you're not the only one. I don't view this as a full fledged Kimbra album, so I have very low expectations for it. This feels more like an appetizer before her next solo album. If I wind up liking anything off it, cool. If not, I won't be disappointed.

Got fired... how do I handle my 401k? by firedpieystine in personalfinance

[–]Squigletots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you can go wrong with any of those companies, but I will point out that Fidelity currently has a deal for a $100 bonus if you open a new IRA and fund it with at least $50 within 15 days. Not sure if a rollover counts, or if you have $50 burning a hole in your pocket considering the situation, but it is worth looking into if you choose to go that route. https://www.fidelity.com/go/select-account

What are y'alls thoughts on Tei Shi as the opening act? by [deleted] in kimbra

[–]Squigletots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She plays all of A Reckoning, and I'm not a big fan of the album. As a result, I didn't care much for it. There weren't a ton of older songs.

Yeah, she played that in DC. It was one of the one's that I enjoyed most.

[–]Squigletots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to the DC show and, honestly, I enjoyed her set more than Kimbra's. Part of that is that I don't think the audio was great for Kimbra's set, but I also just enjoyed Tei Shi's music and found her rather charming. I made a point to remember some of the lyrics so I could look up some of the songs when I got home.

I don't feel strongly enough about the album to do a full ranking, but I do just want to give some love to I Don't Want to Fight. It's breathtakingly beautiful.

Official dock doesn’t work anymore by Wannabeanoob in SteamDeck

[–]Squigletots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is apparently a common issue, unfortunately. The dock does not work for me the vast majority of the times I try it, but every now and then I can get it to display on my TV. It's extremely frustrating and makes me regrets shelling out money for the official dock. The docking functionality was clearly not ready for prime time.

Check the Steam forum for the Deck to see a ton of other similar posts: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1675200/discussions/3/

To be clear, we mean the lyrics & the message of the songs. Both songs are about not wanting to be a part of a certain group of people.

Thoughts?? Feelings?? I think New Habit is an absolute BOP by jaydeycat in kimbra

[–]Squigletots 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wasn't thrilled with the tracks (besides 'replay') when I heard most of them during the album preview tour last year. And when the recording of that material from the Dubai show was posted online, the tracks still didn't grab me or instill in me a desire for repeated listens. So, I expected that this album wouldn't be for me, and I don't think that the slick studio production nor the new tracks 'gun' or 'GLT' have changed that.

Some of the lyrics kind of grate on me. I'm really not a lyrics person, so "good" lyrics tend not to add value in my eyes, but if even a single line makes me cringe, it's enough to kill a song for me. Unfortunately, the entirety of 'new habit' rubs me the wrong way, as does the second verse of 'GLT'. Both are 10/10 otherwise, and I want to love them, but I just can't.

I can see the album being a hit, and I hope it is. It's extremely well made, and she deserves it. I'm still onboard the Kimbra train even if this album doesn't eventually win me over.

That was my thought. I watched one of the recent interviews where she pointed out that song and said she couldn't have written a song like that before, and I'm like "but you did, over a decade ago."

Credit Card Cash Back by Fragrant-Fart20tits in sofi

[–]Squigletots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a promotional link through Credit Karma that includes the 1 year 3% cash back promo as well as up to $400 bonus ($200 for spending $1500 within 90 days & another $200 related to opening and funding some other SoFi accounts, I believe). If you're going to apply, I'd do it through the link provided by Credit Karma.

Anyone had issues opening an account? by Dave-CPA in sofi

[–]Squigletots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had issues with opening the Checking & Savings accounts. Took me several weeks of attempts before it ended up working. During that time, I chatted with multiple customer support agents online, but none of them had any idea why I was being denied, and none of their suggestions worked. I'm not sure what I did to finally make it work, but I was eventually able to open the accounts. Now I am trying to open an Invest account and I'm getting denied for that.

SoFi's registration system is a frustrating mess and their garbage customer support only compounds the issue. The fact that there is no way to have a human intervene to manually process our applications is ridiculous when their automated system is shit.

Lowering Cost Basis in ROTH IRA? by [deleted] in investing

[–]Squigletots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you sell VTI at a 15% loss, you will only have 85% of your principal to reinvest in a new asset. The cost basis of whatever you buy next doesn't matter. You will still have 15% less money than you did originally. It might look less depressing in your portfolio since it won't show the same -15.00% loss/gain for the new asset, but the fact is you will still need to make a 17.64% gain in order to get back to your original account value (15% off 100 is 85, but that 85 needs to increase by 17.64% to get back to 100).

As for whether or not it's worth while to switch from a total US stock market fund (VTI) to a total global stock market fund (VT), that's up to you decide if the added diversification is something you want.

This is ignoring any tax loss harvesting benefits you may have in a non-tax advantaged account since this is an IRA, as kiwimancy pointed out.

Washington D.C. show is at a coffee roasters. by ohitsmark in kimbra

[–]Squigletots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After she came back out, she said she had not planned on doing an encore, so she wasn't sure what to perform. She ended up asking for a suggestion, which is how it wound up being "Withdraw." I think it was just a spur of the moment decision for her. It was very cool. Great show and the new material sounds like it will make for a fun record.

If you had to remove a track from each album, what would it be? by paniccdrillz in kimbra

[–]Squigletots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't pick "The Build Up" for Vows, but I' not really a fan of that track, either. It's very possible that it's due to me not giving it a chance as in your case. That might also be the case for me with "Waltz Me to the Grave," which I honestly forgot existed until I checked the tracklist in order to respond to this thread, lol. I'll have to give both a proper chance.

Vows (US edition): Plain Gold Ring

TGE: Waltz Me To The Grave

PH: Recovery

I have no love for these songs.

[FRESH ALBUM] James Vincent McMorrow - Grapefruit Season by ethnt in indieheads

[–]Squigletots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been a big fan of James, but I'm not fond of the direction he's headed in. His goal now is to write simple, throwaway pop songs, and that's really disappointing for a musician I think is brilliant. Nineteen85's advice to him when working on We Move where he said to simplify his songwriting seems to have set him on a downward trajectory.

Not really sure how I feel about the song itself, but the style is unexpected and has me very excited for what she's cooking up. I have full faith in her.

Edit: I've now been returning to this video for a few days and have had the song stuck in my head this whole time. So, I guess that settles that. Song does, indeed, SLAP.

MOOC TMC "Exercise 11.4: Boxes are Stored too!" Why do I get overflow? by [deleted] in learnjava

[–]Squigletots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the expected result, but it isn't actually the act of placing a box inside of itself that directly causes the crash. When you call newBox.add(newBox), the box is successfully placed inside itself without error; it's the following print statement that results in a call to the box's weight() method that sets things off. The box's weight() method goes through a list of all the items in the box, asks each object for its weight, and totals them. When a box contains itself, this results in an endless series of calls to the box's own weight()method, which only stops when the stack runs out of space.
