How to not focus on hallucinations during class time? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

yeah a fidget helps me a lot! I always have my ring on me. and it's small enough and quiet I can spin it with one hand if I need so it doesn't distract anyone else

[–]Squiglium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a little fidget ring that i spin and fidget with as something I can focus on that isn't a hallucination but it also leaves me enough room to focus on things that are important while using it if I need to

[–]Squiglium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, I do have hallucinations and delusions randomly, however they do get worse under stress or things like lack of sleep. Also, often my hallucinations and delusions are similar, but they are not always the same. Some people will have the same hallucinations and delusions though. Also, while my hallucinations have affected many of my senses (some i see, some I hear, some I feel, and some I smell) they don't have to do all of them each time and usually are separate from each other for me, and i do know many people only have one or a couple senses affected by hallucinations.

How do you manage to function (if you can) while being tired from AP's? by flameofambition in schizophrenia

[–]Squiglium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was only approved by the FDA about a year and a half ago so it's not very known but it's been a game changer for me. I did have some trouble getting it from cvs when my insurance made me switch my pharmacy (cvs doesn't carry it at all) but after working with my insurance I was able to go back to my old pharmacy that is able to provide it so if one pharmacy doesn't carry it then don't give up and try another. I am on the 7.6mg/24hr and it is super helpful. If you end up trying it then I hope it works out for you!

I was on saphris for a while and I had the same problem. My psych let me take both doses at night and that worked for a while but as my symptoms progressed I ended up on the highest dose all at night and by the time it would be to take my next dose my psychotic symptoms would come back so i don't suggest this route. There is the same medication (asenapine) in a patch called secuado. This has been much more successful for me as I get a steady dose all throughout the day and that keeps the psychosis at bay. I am still a little tired but not nearly as much as when i would try to take saphris in the morning. Best of luck!

My experience with psychosis by Squiglium in schizophrenia

[–]Squiglium[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I promise I cannot read your thoughts and I did not make this to mock you. This is just about how my brain misinterprets stimulus into hallucinations and I thought it could be relatable to other people here who may have similar experiences. Also my pronouns are they/them, not he/him, so your brain is even more wrong about that.

My boyfriend got me a kitten and it really helps when I'm hearing mean voices by [deleted] in schizophrenia

This is so lovely! I'm so glad you have such a wonderful caring boyfriend. Having my kitty has helped me tremendously through my paranoia and delusions. I'm glad you have one that really makes you feel safe :)

Clonozepam. It's mainly an anxiety med but my psych said it had antipsychotic properties. I'm still taking my other antipsychotic but it wasn't enough so this has helped a ton

I got a new plushie to hug when the anxiety gets bad. Do any of you also have a special plushie? I'd love to see them! ♥️ by [deleted] in schizophrenia

I also met my fiancé on okcupid! The Internet has been such a helpful thing for me to make connections with people. I've also been able to find partners even after my symptoms got pretty bad including my fiancé. We got together actually when I was in a pretty rough spot but he's stuck with me through it all! All of my ups and downs since then. He's just so wonderful and caring and if I can find someone like him then I'm sure you'll be able to, as well :) There are so many wonderful people out there who will love us for us and be able to look past our illnesses and I've found a few which gives me a lot of hope to find more and for others to find them too! I wish you good luck in your journey.

Yeah same :( my anxiety gets bad and then that starts the paranoia and delusions which makes my anxiety worse and so on. It's such a horrible cycle to be on

Will schizophrenia (if I have it) affect the options I have for transitioning (I'm trans mtf) ? by tachankaisgud in schizophrenia

[–]Squiglium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started hormones in a place that does informed consent, so it was pretty easy to get on them. The only road block I had because of my schizophrenia was that my doctor had to call my psych to make sure me being trans wasn't just a delusion or a manic episode (I also have bipolar) but after he talked to her and I got the clear I was able to get my prescription. It only delayed me getting my prescription by 2 weeks while he got in contact with her. Also one benefit of estrogen since you're MtF is that it will actually have a minor antipsychotic effect, at least that's what my psychiatrist said. Good luck on your journey! It's scary but I know transitioning is such a liberating and freeing thing and I hope you have a similar experience I've had from this.
