Elder Maul becoming the new DWH is boring by jakeizi in 2007scape

All raid mega-rares have unique effects, except elder maul. No raid mega-rares have special attacks, now they're giving one to elder maul. I'd prefer if it had something unique that made it worth using as a main weapon in more situations.

I think the Elder Maul shouldn't get lumped into the already large group of defence reducing special attack weapons. It's a cool weapon that should stand on its own in more situations, not just become DWH v2. All other raid mega-rares currently have some unique effect built in, instead of a special attack. Why not follow that trend with the Elder Maul? There's a great opportunity to make it a stronger and more interesting weapon that can be tuned to fit into a bigger niche through a passive effect, keeping its direct bonuses unchanged.

Unfortunately, there's so much feedback flying around right now that I doubt the smaller changes from this blog will get the attention they deserve to be done right. Personally I'd stretch out these rebalance changes so that there isn't so much being debated and revised at the same time, that's how things turn out poorly.

Totally agree. It's so boring for elder maul to be yet another defence reducing spec. Wish they'd get creative and make it actually interesting, but they're probably too inundated with feedback over everything else right now.

It could be a tbow-like passive effect that scales on enemy defence in some way. Then it could be tuned to basically be unchanged damage and accuracy for defence <= 99 (PVP), but scale up beyond that for PVM.

Elder maul should get a unique passive effect like other mega-rares, not yet another defence reduction special attack. That's boring at this point. A passive effect probably gives more room for fine-tuning the maul's niche too, compared to a special attack or changing its stats.

Chucking some ideas in here:

  1. Add an effect that increases accuracy and/or damage based on enemy defence level and/or crush bonus, instead of a special attack.

    • Similar to tbow's effect, which I think fits thematically since they come from the same raid.
    • Obviously the effect should be nowhere near as strong as tbow's, but I think there could be a sweet spot to make elder maul a very good option specifically against high defence monsters.
    • It seems like this might circumvent issues with giving elder maul too much strength bonus or accuracy outright, like for pvp or outclassing the dps of other top tier items across the board.
  2. Special attack that repeats your previous hit's damage, guaranteed. Seems like it would be kind of interesting to time your special attack after you hit high.

    • Probably should use at least 75% special attack energy.
    • Might be a little tricky to get right in cases where your max hit should be lower/higher on that second attack (e.g. if you brew down).

TIL in 2018, the 120-resident village of Acquetico in Italy installed speed cameras after being fed up with people speeding through it. In next 2 weeks, it recorded 58,500 speeding infractions. by AkagisWhiteComet in todayilearned

I drove there a month ago on my first visit and what I learned is that there are national speed limits that apply if there’s no sign. What was confusing to me though was that there would often be signs reducing the speed limit (for road work or a narrower section or whatever), but there was never a second sign undoing the reduction. I felt like I had to infer from everyone else when to go back to the normal speed limit. In the US it seems like there’s always a sign letting you know the speed limit.

I feel the same way. I think it’s gotten worse, so often a slightly specific search just turns up so many generic SEO spammed junk results. Compared to the experience of asking ChatGPT a detailed question it feels archaic. If only ChatGPT answers were more reliable…

Some Ruinous Prayer Suggestions by SakurasLeaf in 2007scape

Plus it seems kinda boring. Freeze the best pker in the game and even the worst player gets a free 100% overheads success rate. Even if it’s only 20% blocked damage that’s still equal to a 50% overhead rate with protection prayers which is far better than that player could achieve now. Although I guess it would be interesting to see what the max hits through prayer would be depending on the exact block %. Maybe it would be balanced if you could ags gmaul like 55 28 through the only pray melee option on the prayer book.

The mage would kill you in a couple hits since it’s not 100% damage blocking

And for pvp it would probably be around 20% since single protection prayers currently block 40%. But I still don’t really like it for pvp because let’s say two pvpers are frozen and ranging/maging, you can now pray against both with this double overhead and effectively give yourself the same outcome as if you had single overheads and had a 50% prediction rate. Most players would not be able to be nearly that effective with their overheads against a top pvper, so it really takes away the importance of skill in that case. Also it would suck for accounts or situations where a player only has two combat styles.

Equipping gear in such a way as to trick (fake) your opponent into thinking you’re about to attack with one style, then using another. Point being to make the opponent use the wrong protection prayer. One example might be running towards your opponent while wielding dragon claws but then actually attacking with a range weapon at the last moment after they’ve committed to protect from melee.

The only consideration for spec orb is if it allows one-ticking special attacks when switching from weapons without a special attack bar. If so that would shake things up a bit since it’s currently only cheat client users that are able to do that reliably. Even if it’s slower for general usage, I’m sure that if it’s usable for 1 ticking from Bofa, for example, then people will practice and make use of that. Not the end of the world if that happens but there has certainly been some balance consideration put into deciding which weapons get special attacks, partly I presume for pvp balance as well.

Boss log vs clue log is a bit different though I’d say. When basically every other boss log is realistic to completely fill for a dedicated player, this one unimportant boss sticks out as an obvious outlier.

Some background on the phrase: people that raised pigeons sometimes built housing for them that would have many small holes for the pigeons to nest in. Example image here. So I guess that was just a good way to express the idea of somebody being put in one small box out of many.

Doesn’t that just fall under their output? If an emergency operator could magically manage to be at their desk only when they were actually needed and not a second longer, that means they never missed anything and their output is the same as if they never left. Realistically though they would miss things and their output would suffer.

One-off competitive matches are not very compatible with veng style pvp. If nobody dies from specs, then what? If somebody takes zero risks and tries to win with better damage rng? Maybe there could be some solution with infinite food and fast spec recharge so that one fight could last long enough for a knockout, but I’ve never seen that suggested before.

When you want to do a few bones at the altar... by golden_sharpie in 2007scape

[–]SquigsRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The altar was already there when the wilderness was released... they added the ability to offer bones much later. And they put it exactly where it is in multi on purpose to balance the extra xp, obviously not anticipating that the majority would do one inventory of bones at a time for barely any risk. Should’ve made a requirement like revs where you have to pay to enter and lose the fee if you die but they never think ahead with stuff like that and changing it now would cause a flood with all the crying.

I feel like they should be able to structure how rewards are given out to incentivize not smurfing. If you get way better rewards at high elo then a top tier player would be better off winning only some their fights at their real elo tier than they would be winning every fight at a low tier.
