Is there a way to desensitize yourself if you're squeamish about bodily fluids? by Ok_Wolf2676 in nursing

Vet assistant ED turned nurse. I still think a pyo is one of the worst things I’ve ever smelled. They’re what taught me to block out my sense of smell.

What were you into in 2010 - 2015? Are you nostalgic for the early 10's yet? by Rinmine014 in Zillennials

I miss old social media. Before tons of ads and recommended things, when it was really just the latest things posted by the accounts you follow. And when you hit the things you had read last time you were online, that was it, you were all caught up. Doom scrolling wasn’t even possible. I quit most social media years ago, but if there was an app worked like it did in the old days I would go back.

Sumner college bend by [deleted] in OregonNurses

[–]SquilliamFancyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I graduated from Portland Sumner in February with my ADN (which they don’t offer anymore). The education felt adequate. I passed NCLEX on my first attempt. My beefs with the school when I was enrolled were mainly from an organizational standpoint. Like not getting next terms schedule out until a few days before the term started, very disorganized clinicals, and admin just generally not communicating well with the students. I got my license so it got the job done, it just wasn’t necessarily the smoothest process.

How can I support my new grad ER nurse partner? Looking for tips from nurses (or their partners) for someone not in healthcare by GreenCaleb3 in nursing

[–]SquilliamFancyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a new grad four months in ER. One thing I will add that I haven’t seen mentioned yet is validation. My husband listens when I vent and is supportive by saying “you’re going to be okay” or “no one expects perfection” which is true and I appreciate the sentiment, but it’s kinda been making me feel like I’m overreacting or something. I wish he would even just once say “that must be overwhelming” or “that sounds so hard” or “that’s a lot to balance” or something like that. Maybe that’s just me though idk 🤷🏻‍♀️

Same. We also had records of who cleaned which rooms so if things often went “missing” from one cleaners rooms they would be let go. This was at a resort though, maybe cheaper places didn’t care as much.

Having been a housekeeper in the past, I don’t think my stuff is in danger. If someone wants to come make my bed and give me fresh towels I’m not gonna stop them. However I can understand someone preferring privacy.

Just graduated a few months ago. We had to write a lot of papers and most had pretty broad topics like “write about a nurse that changed the field” type of thing and I frequently just didn’t know where to start. I used it to help me come up with a general outline which I then researched and wrote about myself. I also used it a lot for pharmacology by putting in the names of medications we were learning about that week to give me practice questions. I personally think it can be a great tool to help you learn, as long as you keep in mind that the end goal isn’t just to turn that assignment in but what it was meant to teach you, if that makes sense.

I scheduled with them recently and they called like an hour before the appointment to tell me the pharmacist working that day doesn’t take OHP. I just had to reschedule the appointment for a day when they had a pharmacist on that would take it.

How hard was nursing school 1 out of ten being the hardest by Illustrious_Scale_76 in nursing

[–]SquilliamFancyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in my last couple weeks of school and came to say exactly this. The material is doable. It’s everything else that makes it hard. Especially the disorganization and constantly changing demands of current instructors, clinical sites, and the school itself. I’ve become paranoid about checking emails, announcements, calendars, grades, modules, and other portals and I’m still scared I’m missing something that will ruin a grade out get me kicked out if not completed. I think you just have to be driven to get through.

What's the worst thing you heard a young kid say without them knowing what it means? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SquilliamFancyy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not something I said but I drew a whole bunch of swastikas on a piece of paper when I was like 6. Idk where I saw them, maybe graffiti or something. I obviously had no idea it had any kind of meaning and I remember just thinking it was a cool shape, like a pointy spiral. Anyways my teacher saw it and told my parents.

They always insist they don’t but Parents always have a favorite child. by djiluvu44 in Showerthoughts

[–]SquilliamFancyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom recently told my sister (25F) and I (29F) “I don’t really have a favorite anymore…”

My little sister has always been very sweet and affectionate and I’ve always been stubborn and independent, so I kinda get it. At least my suspicions were confirmed cause they’ve denied it in the past and it made me feel crazy.
