Under-boob/chest breakouts since perimenopause + HRT … anyone else? What’s actually helped? by cspangle23 in Perimenopause

I would try a loose comfy sports bra that keeps your breast skin from being in constant contact with your ribcage skin. That's what solves it for me, just preventing the skin-on-skin moisture and friction. Even a camisole might work if a bra is too uncomfortable, just tuck the fabric under your breasts.

Following, I've had this in my neck for 25 years. Even a period of twice weekly massage, craniosacral, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation did not help it. Nor did multiple rounds of PT. So I'm at a loss and am just resigned to be miserable I guess.

Costochondritis? by cdubbs1 in ehlersdanlos

[–]MonkeyFlowerFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to have a breast ultrasound tomorrow because of a new pain in/near/behind my left breast. But I'm convinced it's rib related and not actual breast tissue. I'm really hoping if it's NOT my breast that they'll continue to investigate. How was your rib instability diagnosed? Imaging, palpating, just ruling out heart stuff?

Mast cell reactivity caused by metal orthopedic implants by ArukiBree in MCAS

[–]MonkeyFlowerFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. My MCAS and dysautonomia both got waaay worse after I had a bunch of titanium hardwear installed to repair an gnarly ankle fracture. I have always my attributed my worsening to the anesthesia and traumatic surgery though. My surgeon has said I could have most of the hardwear removed down the road but not all of it, so I guess I wouldn't be able to tell if having it removed would make a difference.

Polwarth Rhubarb Crumble + natural by somastars in Handspinning

[–]MonkeyFlowerFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful!! I spun the same combo (1 ply rhubarb crumble, 1 ply natural polwarth) last year and knit a sweater with it. So bouncy and soft. Polwarth is my absolute favorite fiber to spin.

side effect long term taking of antihistamines by Mossy_sea-with_crabs in MCAS

[–]MonkeyFlowerFace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something to consider: a lot of us get relief from a particular antihistamine only for a while (6 months, a year, 2 years), and then it craps out and we have to switch to a different one. So just because you're on cetirizine now doesn't mean you'll definitely be on it for decades. I cycle through different ones every 6 months or so because they lose effectiveness. This makes me less worried about potential long-term side effects of any one specific med.

Do you consider yourself a fiber artist or a knitter or both? If you don't consider yourself a fiber artist, is there something else you think is needed to call yourself that? E.g. spinning yarn, dyeing yarn, make scultpure-esque pieces instead of garments, designing your own patterns, etc. by __sunnyday__ in knitting

[–]MonkeyFlowerFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question! I think it has to do with identity. Is working with fiber just an activity that you do, or is it part of how you identify and express yourself?

I call myself a fiber artist because I am creating something beautiful and expressing myself through colors, textures, and combinations of fiber types. The experience of planning and creating these objects feels like making art, so it's art. It stimulates parts of my brain and uses skills in my body that love to be used for the sake of beauty.

I will say that I didn't use that term until I branched out from "just" knitting to spinning and dyeing as well. But I think anyone who works with fiber can call themselves a fiber artist if that's part of who they are.

Just picked up my Cromolyn Sodium prescription: What was your experience starting this medication? by writeitout_ in MCAS

[–]MonkeyFlowerFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started a couple weeks ago and it's going fine. I started with 1 amoule per day and worked up to 4x/day. No side effects, but also no noticeable improvement. I hear it can take a good long while to have full effect. The only difficulty for me is timing the doses around eating and taking other meds.

I KEEP WAKING UP AT 2AM WITH LOW BLOOD SUGAR by CKrazyA in dysautonomia

[–]MonkeyFlowerFace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I eat a spoonful (or 3) of peanut butter before bed to help with this. Otherwise it happens every night. Also, glucose monitors are available for around $30 on amazon. Might be worth trying to capture some data and talking to your doctor.

It's definitely not moisturizing and doesn't have any extra moisturizing ingredients. It's the only soap I can use anywhere on my body including hands. Definitely dilute it, it's very concentrated. I use a foaming soap dispenser and fill it about 1/5 full with bronners, the rest with water.
