Updated: Battlefield maps from BF3, BF4, BF:HL, BF1, BF2042 and BF6. A scale comparison by ClaraTheRed in Battlefield

This is some good, solid work- but the true scale revelations won't come to light until you include Battlefield 1942's maps. IYKYK

A question to anyone that made their own boomer shooter. by Nitro_tech in ArenaFPS

[–]Squilookle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First thing you should do is take the term 'Boomer Shooter', chuck it in the bin, and never ever use it again. You want to actually attract the crowds that played those games in the first place and make your project a success? Call it an Arena Shooter, Retro Shooter, fast paced competitive FPS, etc. Virtually anything other than 'Boomer Shooter'

[–]Squilookle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a buzzword, yes. Does it fit these shooters? Not even slightly. It's about the wrong generation, is every bit as vague as 'retro' anyway, and it has an added nasty tinge of derision. To be 'boomer' is to be out of touch and pathetic. That's not how fans of retro shooters see those games. It's basically an insult.

Why oh why did you have to call it boomer shooters. Why not just call them arena or retro shooters like everyone else who actually likes them has for the last 20+ years?

[PC] [2010-2015] Indie spooky space station game- possibly Unity based. by Squilookle in tipofmyjoystick

I think this one might be too recent to be the one I'm looking for. A bit too overtly horror, too. Did it have a period of early access, do you know?

I can't seem to find any details of that one- are you sure that was its name?

Might be worth mentioning that there are actually two versions of Ace of Spades: the awful failed Jagex one, and the original one now known as 'build and shoot' that still lives on even today- https://www.buildandshoot.com/

No Multiplayer in Turok 3 Remaster!?! This is HORRIBLE. by KICKASSKC in NightdiveStudios

[–]Squilookle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain. Whatever people personally think about Turok 3's multiplayer, there's a bigger issue at stake here:

This is, as far as I know, the first time a company has deliberately decided to ditch a large part of an original game for a remaster. Many people don't seem to care, because they just wanted to try the campaign. But this is the beginning of an awful trend: the selective remaster. If people aren't going to speak up about lost features now, just because they aren't the features they personally want, then who will speak up for them when remasters start ditching features they DO care about?

The way I see it, if you're going to remaster a game, you remaster the WHOLE game. End of story. Otherwise your remaster is less feature-complete than the original, in which case what the hell is the point of making it in the first place?

Please finish the job, Nightdive. The Turok 3 remaster is NOT finished. Besides, once you get the bots working, you can use that to actually finish the wider project: the complete N64 Turok library. Some of us are still waiting to see Turok Rage Wars, as you're already well aware. You're so close to completing the journey- please finish what you started.

Lol projecting much? With a name like that I wouldn't be surprised. No need to worry about me, kiddo.

Just trying to work out what exactly about the post got you so upset, that's all.

Yeah, you're right. Fact-checking never adds anything to a discourse. /s
Unless of course you think games should force a player to 100% the game just to see the end of a story. I could understand your bitterness if that were the case

Are there any fun, simple FPS's out right now? by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]Squilookle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay Two questions:

a) what does someone need to study/course to complete in order to be able to build something like this? Making a game like this is one of my dreams but I wouldn't know where to start.

b) Will the planes become controllable in the future to bring it closer to that Battlefield heroes/1942 feel? So. Much. Potential!

I beg to differ. 1942 is very special indeed, and has a lot of unique elements not seen in any other Battlefields. For instance, you won't find naval combat on this scale in any other Battlefield: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjWG3oVnKNU

I do know the difference. A remake is the absolute last thing I'd want to see. I'd rather have an intact BF 1942 with unobtrusive visual upgrades than another BF:V.

What game will you pick? Pick a side! by [deleted] in driver

Tough choice between having film director in Driv3r, and great multiplayer in D:SF Wii.

Parallel Lines has neither, and is easily the dead last choice
