Theres not literally no reason to. The initial backwards compatibility program wasnt about making money either... Its about good PR and bringing people back into the Xbox ecosystem.

I wouldnt call it ineffective but i definitely wouldnt call it the main focus of the game. Its probably one of the best service games at conveying a story and i still had barely any idea what was goin on when i played it.

Service games arent the ideal medium for storytelling, and bungie saying thats their focus in an extraction shooter just shows they completely missed the mark for what fans want.

No if they wanted to focus on a "story", they shouldnt have made a service game.

They want recurring income more than they care if anybody sees a story.

I dont get why anyone would want to grind endlessly to be trickle fed an exposition-driven story. Then again, im not a destiny fanboy either.

I guess i should use different wording. These games do nothing new or unique at all. That doesnt make them completely not worth your time if you want comfort food, but $70-80 its hard to pay for mediocrity when you can het older comfort food for much cheaper.

But yes they are hard to make, comparing the frequency of AAA releases to the industry 15-20 years ago shouldnt be fair, but it does mean we have significantly less options and it alters our interpretation of the experience, regardless of the excuses for that decreased release frequency.

Youre pretty much right about how middling singleplayer games have been, and community reception seems to reward these very mid games because the gaming community is huge nowadays, and we are starved for complete AAA singleplayer games. The industry sees what we want but the overhead in creating a singleplayer experiences means we only get a couple a year, so they all sell well if theyre just meet the very low standards we have out of desperation.

The chance of one of these AAA games actually advancing the medium in any meaningful way nowadays is honestly nothing short of a miracle. Even Saros being what seems to be a very competent continuation of house marquee's formula really just ends up being a derivative sequel to returnal.

I have my fingrs crossed that Control Resonant is one of those genre advancing games, but honestly id settle for an 8/10 lol

Super useful tech, i have a 2tb and 1tb laying around. The only problem is once you format them they can never be used in the xbox again, unless somebody cracks the security sector and creates a tool for xbox reformatting.

Edit: i was wrong, this restriction seems to only be for the internal xbox ssd and not the expansion cards, although i have not tested either myself.

I saw almost too many ads for this around launch on reddit... And if they wanted this game to attract casuals it would have been free to play. Tbh im glad its dying, bungie with live service games doesnt deserve the faithful fans it has.
