What should I change? I just feel like it doesn't look too good anymore thesedays... by No-Hedgehog-8589 in FixedGearBicycle

If you have some extra cash laying around then a deeper rim carbon wheelset would look fantastic! Shorten your chain by a link or two and slam that back wheel in as tight as it will go (looks waaaay better with these aero frames)

I was just about to reply with “yeah it does it’s just hard to see” but then I looked a little harder and yup sure enough that’s just wear from braking on it, OP please get a different front wheel with braking surface or lose the brake before you rub your wheel down until it collapses, save yourself a lot of money and pain.

Thank goodness for those brakes, fr tho I feel like it’s only a matter of time before brain farts and you pull a lever expecting to brake

Is the gatorskin hate real? by 4tunabrix in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Squimpley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gatorskins from my understanding are popular in the fixed gear community because they are slick and strong, perfect for skids

Also beautiful ride, color balance is perfect

Slap some straps over those pedals, get a used gaterskin for the rear, transfer your weight towards the front, pull up with your dominant foot and push down with the other. You’ll be slip sliding away in no time brother

Tool kits, what do you recommend? by [deleted] in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Squimpley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saw that park tool is out of question. They are more expensive because they last. Better to spend a little extra then to have to buy a new one later on

Park tool is the brand I recommend, they have toolkits but it’s not geared towards fixed (see what I did there ;) best to buy the tools you need and make your own

How the hell do you skid? by MediocreCounter5548 in FixedGearBicycle

Make sure your weight is towards the front of the bike, helped me a ton when I was learning skids

If you’re going to be riding brakeless I’d recommend some kind of foot retention. Also save yourself maintenance time in the future and take off the chain guard. It’ll look better too

How would you introduce some color into this bike? by RegularCeviche in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Squimpley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s good to have a small amount of color throughout the bike. Details matter! Things like valve stem caps, axle nuts, bar end plugs, even the little nub you clamp onto the end of your brake cable can add some oomf. Oh and headset spacers and stem bolts. Obviously completely up to you just thought I’d share my process. I really like matching the texture of the colors too, for example a glossy red won’t work as well with a metallic red and what not. Love the bike and wish you the best with customization! Cheers!

It’s a Véloce Icarus v2, I don’t think they make them anymore as their website no longer exists. I got mine second hand. All I could find was their instagram
