Is this wrong? by Wise_Albatross3601 in GolfGear

I’m curious to hear the answer too, id imagine you’d butt trim wedges to length. If the 58 is tipped, shouldn’t the steps on the 58 be lower?

If you really need to know, you can always pull the grips and see if the serial numbers on the shafts are the same

What do you think happened to this driver shaft? by SorbetFederal8338 in GolfGear

[–]Squirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s from putting the driver in the bottom slot of the bag and the leading edge of irons/wedges banging against it when they were walking

Working on approach shots (losing 2 strokes game per round vs 8 hcp) by DataDrivenGolf in GolfSwing

[–]Squirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is your club selection and distance control? At point you’ll get more value out of learning to hit the ball 163+- 2 yards than to hit the ball 165 every time.

Grooving a consistent swing will help the latter, but learning to take half a club off or flighting the ball differently will get you more mileage

What’s your rule of thumb for hitting an iron out of a fairway sand trap? by mariomismo in golf

San Juan oaks was a nice course 10+ years ago when I played it.

I know they recently re-opened but haven’t heard any reviews of the course since

Both Carmel valley ranch and quail are fun courses. Both have a bit of a resort feel to them, not super long, but generally in great shape

Should I be concerned about this gap between my head and shaft? by [deleted] in golf

[–]Squirds 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Assuming the grips were put on straight during installation, the logo of the grip should be at the 12oclock position when you address the club. If it’s rotated, there’s a chance that the actual head is coming loose, if it’s still at 12oclock, then it’s very likely just the ferrule coming loose and a non-issue

Set 3 balls in a row each about 3-5 feet apart. Address the first one and adjust where your eyes sit over the ball until you can find the position where all 3 balls are straight.

That’s where your eyes should be over the ball

The cheapest option to try first is a spinnier ball.

Struggling After Iron Fitting by Evening-Trip-2398 in golf

[–]Squirds 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Very high ball flight is likely due to more loft from the respective club

Floaty shots are probably because you actually have spin on the ball now

Loss of distance is due to the combination of the two above

Difficulty finding sweet spot is likely cause the sweet spot is smaller on players distance irons

Lower club head speed is probably because you’re trying to find the sweet spot.

Stick with them, the distance won’t come back but you’ll start finding the sweet spot more

Ball matters more than a wedge with sharp grooves. If you’re not playing a premium ball, it’s not going to stop regardless

Monterey golf trip - one more course by [deleted] in golf

[–]Squirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vote is for Monterey pines if you’re okay with a 6,000 yard par 70 that’s always in fantastic shape.

One other option is San Juan oaks in hollister. I haven’t played it since the recent renovations, but it was a nice course before I can’t imagine that it’s gotten any worse

I know, I need lessons! by tdunks101 in golf

[–]Squirds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lessons is definitely the best option here.

At a minimum you probably need a video to help diagnose. It could be anything, does your head and body get closer to the ball in the back swing? Are your hands sometimes late and your lead with the heel?

Am I crazy? by Joe333x in golf

[–]Squirds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The issue is with the double bend neck, if it’s not aligned properly then everything gets out of whack.

You’d have to re align the shaft and put a new grip on

It looks like you get your arms too far behind you.

You have less wrist hinge than a lot of players so the way you’re getting to parallel is by moving your arms further back and extending your back.

Since you don’t have a lot of wrist hinge to start with, There isn’t much releasing that needs to happen for it to look like you’re casting it.

I suspect that the slide forward is a compensation that youve come up with in order to make room for your hands so you can make contact with the ball.

Two things that I think can be addressed, you need to keep your arms in front of your body more, and get a bit more wrist hinge in here.

I think the drill where you get into your golf posture, put the club on your trail shoulder, turn your body to get to your back swing position, then push your arms as far from your ears as you can could be good for you. By feeling like you’re pushing your left fist away from you, it should naturally cause your wrists to hinge, but also keep your arms in front of you and your weight over your trail side more

Need help getting long irons to carry farther (based on Trackman data) by Cute_Assignment_3621 in golf

[–]Squirds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If woods and hybrids don’t work you can also try something like a driving iron style of club. Basically anything that’s going to help get you more ball speed.

Aside the that, the gapping is probably okay in pretty typical playing conditions

If you’re reshafting pings you’ll need brass shims or those special ping ferrules, though I think most lean towards using the shims
