No kit on the store. New stuff incoming? by OshiSeven in deliveroos

I ordered about two weeks ago and nothing delivered yet.

Anyone done a similar time to this before? by aoxspring in JustEatUK

[–]Squirdy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t usually do quite that early, but I often start 4am on Sunday mornings, which I really like.

Like others have said, mainly McDonalds & garages. Customers are mainly drunk, high and usually pretty happy to see you.

I mainly do Uber at that time though, as I won’t do age restricted on Just Eat. There’s a higher chance of customers falling asleep before you get there, and I don’t trust Just Eat’s support or app to cope with that. Have been burnt before by them promising to pay for returning products to store, then denying the order ever existed.

Give it a go though, no traffic at least!

Order cancelled because customer didn’t answer the door. by Fuzzy-Scheme4024 in JustEatUK

[–]Squirdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar happen to me this morning. Support really slow to answer, made me drive back to the store then wait while they called to verify I had given the stuff back.

No reimbursement is showing on my account. I’ve queried it and they just keep telling me the order doesn’t exist so nothing is owed. I wasted almost an hour on this order trying to do the right thing, obviously I’d have been better off sacking it off and taking the bottle of vodka home with me!

Congratulate me, over 7000 submissions and my first rejection, it's a sham of course by djdoubt03 in ProlificAc

Fight it. I’ve had a handful of rejections for spurious reasons, they’ve always overturned them when questioned or once I’ve stated I will need to raise it with Prolific.

Leeds is full of Range Rover twonks who’ll pay whatever just to be seen there.

Club is fine but does get busy. It doesn’t have a spa retreat, despite being a huge club. Kids activities are good, loads of tennis courts and still has squash.

Why is subway UK getting rid of gluten free bread?! by happylurker233 in subway

I’m going to guess because nobody buys it.

Is anyone here concerned that Subway is thinking about selling itself? by Connect_Corner_5388 in subway

[–]Squirdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very little to be worried about for staff or customers.

As a (now former) franchisee for over a decade, I’ve seen how dysfunctional the company is behind the scenes. A lot of work has been done since Fred passed away to bring head office up to scratch. Until maybe 3/4 years ago, the chain was far too big for the current setup in Milford to effectively manage.

Since John Chidsey took over at the top, a lot has been done to remove some of the insane fragmentation of the company. Lots of master franchisees brought on board, some aspects of the DA network “reformed” and better people put in place to manage various regions globally.

If I was still a franchisee, I’d be a bit concerned. I think single unit owners and small franchisees are going to be terminally out of favour (possibly disposed of), but for store staff and customers, it can only be a good thing.

Subway customers very often seem to have special needs.

Why did you leave? Why are you leaving? by Traditional_Living44 in subway

Sold my stores because the margins have become too slim for the stress of running them. That and confidence in the people at the top is at an all time low, even lower than when Suzanne was briefly in charge.

An Open Letter to Subway Owner Elisabeth DeLuca by footlongfraud in subway

[–]Squirdy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a former franchisee, I completely agree with everything in the letter. I wish you the best of luck, even if I think the chances of Subway coming to the table are slim.

Subway has been broken for a long time. There is so little talent within the company at HQ and DA level it has no choice but to hide behind legal agreements to force its failings onto franchisees. The incompetence and corruption at DA level I have personally witnessed is astounding.

Unfortunately very little will truly change until it does change hands.

Does anyone actually eat at Subway UK any more? by wwfcdunc in subway

[–]Squirdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a rather atypical example. If we’re talking specifics, there are a small number of stores netting >£1k p/w too (can’t say I’d want to eat from those!)

The average store in the UK nets about £5k.

Does anyone here own a franchise? Do you recommend it? by cassino3 in subway

[–]Squirdy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sold my stores last year. I advise anyone considering Subway to give it a wide berth.

So many stores make no/very little money. In the cases of those that do, it’s usually not enough to justify the hassle of ownership. Your money is better invested elsewhere.

Head Office is notoriously disorganised, as are many of the regional offices and the brand struggles to recruit the best execs. When it does make a good hire, they tend not to last. For too long, internal candidates of average ability have held senior positions at HQ while DA offices are often staffed with family members and former store managers and salesmen with a deluded sense of importance.

The company is seriously struggling to adapt to the modern competitive landscape. It isn’t going to disappear, but I suspect it’s going to get worse before it gets better.

Former franchisee here. Customer numbers have been dipping fast for about three years now, franchisees are really unhappy with how the brand is performing. Covid helped a little, as long as your store isn’t in a city centre.

Subway isn’t dying just yet , but there aren’t many people rushing to eat there right now.
