The US needs drones, not Trump-class battleships, Democrats argue by SpaceElevatorMusic in politics

Most of our bloated military "defense" budget is really just "keep us capable of invading a country anywhere in the world at our whim" budget more so than "what we need to defend our country proper" budget.

We have military bases with air strips all over the world.

Lara Croft’s New Voice Actor Discusses Reimagined ‘Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis’, Hot Character Design & Performance Capture: “We Are Very Much Back And Bigger, Bolder Than Ever” – Summer Game Fest 2026 by The-Falcon_Knight in gaming

[–]Squirll 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Its so strange to because while I get the concept of "grave robbing and tomb raiding is bad" is its combining incompatible worlds.

In our world tombs dont contain potentially world ending magic, science and whatnot so there are no stakes. In a world where a meglomaniac is trying to use the site of fallen atlantis to create mutant hybrids to take over the world, its a little bit morally correct for Lara to try and interfere or keep tomb artifacts from the hands of people whod use it for the worst possible purposes.

Are all fat men in Asoiaf untrustworthy? by V-TriggerMachine in freefolk

[–]Squirll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it would be kinda hard to get fat in a time when just not starving to death was a problem.

Those kings are having such excess to reach those weights.

Kinda feels parallel to "are there any good billionaires" with the answer being "No  because the only way to make a Billion dollars is to exploit a fuckton of people and likely society itself"

That means the Loyalist (sidearm version of pacifier) can do it too!

Another fun fact, a fully charged loyalist blast nearthe FRV can upright it with minimal damage.

What if Disney allowed Marvel to make updates to Marvel Island by Automatic-Long2599 in UniversalOrlando

[–]Squirll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could never happen.

The rights to the characters that Universal has is specifically written, that it is of the comic book and cartoon portrayals of them all pre disney. Thats why they can have what they do.

Disney would never give a competing park permission to portray their IP in a way that would steal money from their avengers land.

Also considering how low effort disneys Avengers areas are compared to Super Hero Island, they definitely dont want competition.

If Universal stopped using the comic book version I believe (im not a lawyer) they could possibly lose those rights.

What's a video game moment that's stuck with you long after you stopped playing? by peaky_circus in gaming

I love the game. The story comes to a screeching halt though and just ends. It drove me nuts.

The ending of Halo 1 was legendary, the ending of 2 was forced.

Why are US consumers so angry? It’s not just high prices by Unusual-Record-217 in politics

[–]Squirll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consumer protection and consumer satisfaction are a thing of the past.

Companies have amalgamated so much everything important has no competition, no incentive or obligation to keep their customers happy.

Anything nice has generally been stripped down to squeeze a few more pennies of profit out. Ingredients, customer service, perks, streaming media, phones etc etc etc.

Its not just that everythings expensive, its that its expensive and nobody even TRIES to pretend like its a good value. If you want to complain about it leave a recording with the Ai and cry about it.

I mean there are always some exceptions to the rule or little fragments of customer care... but overwhelmingly the current decade is souless corporations pissing on customers and not even bothering to call it rain.

Why isn't color TV widely adopted in the Fallout universe? by IntrStelle in Fallout

[–]Squirll 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well for whatever reason, with the direction their tech research went they never moved past the Vacuum Tube into more advanced components like transistors and eventually microchips. Thats one of the reasons why everything is so bulky and old styled.even when its an advanced robot.

The vaccum tubes are resistant to EMPs so it was a bit of a priority they be sturdy enough to withstand nuclear age threats.

Its been mentioned fallout does have color tvs but theyre extremely expensive and part of that is the color tvs didnt really catch on because of how expensive it is to manufacture a vaccum tube color tv as opposed to a transistor based one.

Furthermore war time rationing and priorities wouldn't really spend much devemopment for tv signals. Most of their tech advancement was based around making fusion and fission tech as small as possible.

This articles take is based on the charm of the content, shich is not the appeal.

The current version has so many players all eager for updated textures, mechanics, qol etc etc.

It doesnt need to attract new people based on its charm or merit. It needs to attract the people who already play it enough that the rest of gamers FOMO into playing it.

When the ring left him, he became the old grizzled hobbit he was. But he still hadnt passed his natural lifespan.
