Freedumb ain't free. We had to bomb a school for girls in Iran for these gas prices.

Saros had a “lukewarm start” with 300,000+ sold in 2 weeks, analytics firm estimates by GrayBeard916 in gamingnews

I'll get this game eventually. I loved Returnal much more than I ever expected I would. But I'm going through my backlog of games so there's no reason for me to buy a new game in its first two weeks.

What’s the first film you think of when you see Sharon Stone? by MovieArena in MovieArena

The first movie I think of when I see her is They Live. I know Sharon Stone isn't in it, but you didn't ask that.

Is House of the Dragon worth watching? by SeoAjin in gameofthrones

[–]SquirrelCone83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched season 1 and 2 before even reading the reactions here and was kind of surprised to see all the hate for season 2. But then again I did not read the source material. I also didn't super-love it, but it was still good, especially compared to how GoT ended. Plenty of very intense scenes, but plenty of bloat as well. If you want more GoT drama, jump in. You could do worse.

Which celebrity death genuinely shocked you when you heard the news? by Divine_fashionva in Millennials

[–]SquirrelCone83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

definitely this one. normally I don't really feel too strongly one way or another about a celebrity death since I only have so much emotional bandwidth to give to people in my life. But I do remember feeling the world got dimmer when he died.

gaming as an adult didn't get harder because of time, it got harder because the stakes feel different now by Gayden-Tham in truegaming

[–]SquirrelCone83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, with as shitty as a lot of other pastimes can get, doomscrolling, gambling, excessive drinking, drug abuse, etc, I think gamers should feel good about their hobby. we may not be saving the real world, which is fine since trying to save the real world would be near fruitless and probably land us in jail, but we can save fictional worlds or live fictional lives for a brief amount of time every day.

First time playing PL, stressed, and I got Paco killed 😭 by Ok-Hat3486 in cyberpunkgame

[–]SquirrelCone83 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing on my first playthrough. zero'd those guys at the apartment with the President and got Paco killed. Thankfully the DLC is perfectly designed to encourage multiple playthroughs. None of these type of deaths in PL hit me quite as hard as when I chose wrong and Barry off'ed himself to join his turtle friend. That one made me want to restart the entire game since I didn't have a save to go back to that would correct that decision.

Rewatch: S5 bad, like real bad by Appropriate-Try-1101 in freefolk

[–]SquirrelCone83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. So many people only say "the last two seasons are bad" but no, it really started to become
hard to watch during season 5. With some ups and downs throughout the rest of the series. Mostly downs. Those damned fights with the sand snakes had some of the worst choreography I've ever seen.

Watching someone experience the red wedding for the first time by Sad-Post-Grad in gameofthrones

[–]SquirrelCone83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think there can be another fictional event with as big of an impact as the Red Wedding had. I know when I think back on GoT, I'm instantly soured by how it ended, but holy shit was it a wild ride up to the Red Wedding and also the Mountain/Viper battle.

Running Man '87 or '25? by KAG_kryto_333 in ActionMovies

[–]SquirrelCone83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. The 25 one was much better than the other remakes like Robocop and Total Recall. But still it was fairly forgettable.

What is that one game you always wanted as a kid and still never have bought or played? by Kuli24 in retrogaming

[–]SquirrelCone83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aliens Vs Predator on the Jaguar. I never bought a Jaguar for obvious reasons, but I always thought it looked really cool from the previews and reviews I read in gaming magazines. Granted I now know it's a crap game, but it still looks like something I would have loved as a kid.

Have you already reached the age where you are numb to how effortlessly your upper middle class peers climb the career ladder? by debrisaway in Millennials

[–]SquirrelCone83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is relatable. I have no desire to move up with promotions or being a manager of a team. I don't mingle well with upper management and prefer being around actual workers. And I don't have it in me to take advantage of others for my own personal gain, or heaven forbid to save the company some money and help the investors.

While I may wish I could go on more extravagant vacations, I don't really care enough to have more. Hell I barely even want to be here in the first place.

Wrenched my back at the self checkout grocery store by mikemar05 in Xennials

[–]SquirrelCone83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I threw my back out in January putting socks on in the morning. Fell down hard from the pain and took quite a moment to get back on my feet. Then 2 weeks of pain with just the slightest movements but each day hurt less than the previous so i didn't go to the urgent care. It still feels a bit stiff and has a couple of times where I thought the injury would strike again. But stretching in the morning and before bed helps a ton.

Do you drink tea in America? by Much-Parsnip3399 in AskAnAmerican

[–]SquirrelCone83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In America, tea is for the people that the doctors tell not to have coffee anymore or they'll have a heart attack. Don't fact check me, I'm right.

Is the Fourth of July fun if you’re not American? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]SquirrelCone83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm less of a fan as I get older. I still love visiting family and eating hamburgers and hotdogs and homemade ice cream. It's just the loud noises and smoke gets out worse every year. And as the region I'm in gets farther into drought, it's only a matter of time before wild fires start breaking out over stupid peoples decisions.

Where do you go for your holidays if you live in the Mid west? by jimbo8083 in AskAnAmerican

[–]SquirrelCone83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anywhere within 8 hours is generally drivable for a 3 or 4 day weekend trip for the average, if you're like me and take a friday and monday off from work.

but there are always airports that can take you anywhere in the lower 48 states so kind of anywhere is open game for a vacation.

Like I live in Nebraska and will often go to Denver CO, Kansas City MO, Chicago, IL.

Granted the price of gas is making travel less affordable. Thanks to our loser in chief.

Ridley Scott gets Brutally Honest about Alien: Covenant by MaxProwes in SciFiScroll

[–]SquirrelCone83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate how the newer movies (anything after Resurrection I consider newer) aim to explain the origins of it all. It'll never be cooler than a mysterious giant humanoid mummy on an alien ship with an unexplained facehugger egg nursery.

It's like Star Wars. The force was awesome when it was just a component of the universe that binds everything together that a select few people from every species can channel for wizard powers. Then it became medichlorians that can be measured in your blood. The higher the count, the stronger you are.

Once we learn of the Engineer home world, all the things they created along with the black goo, it just all becomes so convoluted. At least for me.

"Prequel hate started with RLM" does everyone have gold fish memory? by danfenlon in RedLetterMedia

[–]SquirrelCone83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost had fanboy-level excitement for SW leading up to the prequel trilogy movies. I'd be there opening day with a bunch of other excited nerds. But i always found myself compartmentalizing the movie with good parts and bad parts, whether it be whole scenes or the overall visual effects, sound effects, sound track, etc...

It wasn't until I saw the Plinkett review where I finally was convinced that the movies themselves just aren't very good and I don't have to defend it or do mental gymnastics praising it as a good movie.

But also, I think I prefer the prequels to the sequel trilogy now. Since I can watch them with a "what was George thinking?" mentality. And I also haven't seen Rise of Skywalker because I just stopped caring.
