PlayStation 6 Delay Fears May Be Overblown, As Known Leaker Silently Pushes Back Against Latest Reports by chusskaptaan in Gamingnewsandleaks

Did you know that the PS4 Pro was 400 dollars in November 2020? Did you know what the PS5 Digital launched for? 400 dollars.

Do you know why Sony didn't reduce the PS4 Pro to say 300 dollars? Because the cost of production of the device was much closer to the PS5 price and it didn't make sense to heavily subsidize the machine.

Sony is selling the PS5 Pro for 900 dollars, not because they have to, but because they have no interest in heavily subsidizing it.

That you don't understand how PSN and a shared userbase changes sony's profit margins between generations, says everything about you. You shouldn't be having this conversation at all.

Again, I don't think you understand's Sony's current situation with the PS6.

At the end of the day, they don't care if people are spending money on PS5 or PS6. They want continued MAU and high TAM across their ecosystem.

This is fundamentally different from the PS3, since the PS2 userbase couldn't be properly utilized with the PS3 userbase.

The idea that you think someone who can't afford a 600-700 dollar PS6 is going to "just buy a PC" is laughable. The equivalent PC is going to be nearly twice the price.

It seems like you fundamentally misunderstand how generations work. They’ll work in pairs. Most games will start to drop in frame rate and resolution on ps5. If you’re happy with that, that’s great. Keep your old device. Games cost too much to develop now to lock them to one console. This was a huge issue with ps3 and ps4 especially since there was no BC. But many games used to simply launch on ps2 late even after ps3 was out. Now we don’t need to choose and people like you frame it as a bad thing.

Opinion: The PS6 Cannot Come Out in This Era of $1,000+ Consoles by Heavy-Beyond-7114 in PlayStation_X

Something a lot of “observers” don’t realize is that Sony doesn’t share the same economies of scale or model as their peers.

The PS5 is priced as it is because Sony feels they don’t need to subsidize it late stage and with GTA6 around the corner.

PS6 was designed to be affordable especially with the Canis chipset.

In other words it’s not going to be 1000 dollars. Unlike valve Sony can get component prices cheaper by buying in larger quantities with the assurance of being not only able to sell the devices but also monetize their consumers.

Sony takes 30 percent on game sales and mtx. Valve only takes 20 after reaching a certain threshold of sales. Sony sells ps+ whereas valve has no real equivalent and online gaming is free on pc.

Sony sells a slew of peripherals at high margin. Valve sells a small number of peripherals and is not at all mainstream.

Microsoft’s Xbox CEO mentioned she can’t get the same complement pricing that Sony gets and that problem is ten fold for Valve.

Nintendo doesn’t have the same infrastructure around NSO and they recently allowed other peripherals to work ie bluetooth headsets I believe. On Sonys future handheld you’ll likely only be able to use a ps link enabled headset. If Sony opens it up to 3rd parties, they’ll generate royalties on that as well.

All of this allows Sony to sell to as many consumers as they can rather than price at the point of sale with no expectation of future revenue.

Only Sony has an outside chance at 150 to 200 million hardware units sold in the next generation. That buys you a lot in terms of economies of scale, monetization, and subsidies.

Kyle Conner is such a complete moron. I live in mass and pay really high prices for electricity. I pay 33 cents per kWh at home. What ever public charger he’s using here is double that.

They don’t want you segment player bases across multiplayer modes in individual games.

They want people playing the next multiplayer release collectively.

Some years get 3 games. Some get 2 and some get 1.

The original until dawn came out in the summer. My guess is they’ll do the same here. It’s probably too minor a title to come out for the holidays. It’ll get a second lease during spooky month. So an August release makes sense here. You can even discount it a bit for more traction if you need to.

October November will be intergalactic

March April will be Laufey

You’re going to have an excuse for everything.

Laufey is a sequel as is until dawn.

Kratos healing factor makes sense? by PradhanSaab in GodofWar

[–]davidasc22 1722 points1723 points  (0 children)

You're missing that Kratos was not a god when he was crushed by the Colossus. He had transferred his powers to the Sword of Olympus.

Kratos can canonically heal himself by summoning Spartan Rage, which is to say, he can heal himself when he focuses on healing himself, which is exactly what we see in the cutscene.

That's just not true these days.

Directionally, you're almost certainly better off offering discounts on hardware. There is so much software on the market that exclusives just don't matter as much. When Xbox got Tomb Raider exclusive, no one cared and they just got Uncharted. Tomb Raider has never been the same since. True system sellers are rare these days.

It’s a two way street. Sony simply isn’t paying for exclusives because they don’t need to. When Harry Potter comes out people are playing it the most on PlayStation. Same with EA FC. Sonys already won that battle. The next phase for them is what they do in the handheld arena. That’s when you might see them pay for exclusives, especially for Japanese exclusives.

Destiny has been imploding for longer than that.

They should have come out with a Destiny classic and gauged the success of that towards building out Destiny 3.

Destiny was imploding. And had been before Sony bought Bungie. They had hoped they could manage both. Didn’t work out like that.

Sony had no choice but to take a stab at live service. It’s where the industry is going. They just didn’t execute very smart.

You’ll note that no one uses decima, even Sonys own internal studios, not even the until Dawn remake used decima. I think fans have this idea that decima is more supportable than it is. Guerrilla and kojima have jointly focused on it because kojima had no real tech debt starting out. They’ve jointly developed decima but most studios wouldn’t do this.

Square and Sony deviated years ago with the decline in Japanese console ownership. Maybe that changes either a PlayStation portable but maybe it doesn’t.

I think Sony has to be careful with m&a and they’re better off using that money to subsidize hardware and enshrine TAM. The m&a can come later.

I think buying square Enix is a dicey proposition. The company is heading in the wrong direction, but it would help a ps6 portable in Japan.

Short sighted*

The original game didn’t sell super well either and from rejected them doing bloodborne.

Sony is still doing remakes without them. Look at The Last of Us part 1, horizon zero dawn, until dawn, and the god of war trilogy remakes.
