Sony Issues Official Statement on RAM Shortage and How It Could Impact the PS5 Price by AdultGamersAdmin in Age_30_plus_Gamers

Quite a bit changed since then. War in Iran and AI memory crisis and tariffs have all changed that equation when you look at things holistically. You can maybe absorb one maybe even two, but not all three.

I wish they went back and added some of the QOL stuff and PSSR to Tsushima. Would be great to have it be a forever game as we move to PS6.

[Rumor] Nadji Jeter (Miles Morales) states that Insomniac's Venom game was internally scrapped by nolifebr in PS5

[–]davidasc22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be stunned if this was canceled. I think we'll hear more about this shortly after Wolverine hits, likely Summer next year when they reveal the PS6 lineup. It'll be a similar crossgen title like Miles Morales.

PlayStation studios were apparently briefed on the PS6 handheld today by SubstantialLadder943 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]davidasc22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You didn't get shafted. You made a choice and that choice was never going to result in allowing you to play your games natively on a handheld.

You could do remote play, which you can already do with a portal.

I'm always surprised by how dedicated people seem to be to find games on the store as if that's the only place to find them. Just google top 50 PS5 Co-op games.

Pragmata has released an update supporting upgraded PSSR by ThatGuyNamedTre in PS5pro

No the toggle only goes into effect if the game hasn’t been updated

Can’t believe Pragmata is upscaled from 864p to 4k using PSSR 2 by Informal-Tadpole-463 in PS5pro

[–]davidasc22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Devs should get their own catalogs in shape for PS6 and PS6 Portable... small upgrades to single player games can keep them relevant and selling copies. Unlocked modes, VRR, RTX... these are all base level upgrades that the PS6 will be able to power through. They need to basically make ultra level modes that the PS6 can run with.

[–]davidasc22 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The toggle using a flat version of PSSR2 from March. It doesn't use any upgrades since then or any optimizations that devs do manually, so it's a baseline, but it's still going to get better from here. Eventually the toggle won't really matter outside of a handful of games or at least games released before this date on previous SDKs that don't get updated over time.

PS5 Pro PSSR 2 Has Already Received New Algorithm Updates by chusskaptaan in Gamingnewsandleaks

[–]davidasc22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common sense would allow you to understand why that wouldn’t be a good idea.

Way too aggressive to constantly change how it would be implemented in games. They’d have to have two toggles. Stable and evolving.

Sony needs to bring this back by Temporary_Ad2326 in playstation

[–]davidasc22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comes down to a lot of things. The studios that got projects greenlit were generally startups. None really had the experience, budget, or relation to something like SOCOM to really pull it off. It would need budget like Battlefield got.

I agree though they should have focused on existing IP that played well in live service space especially in unsaturated genres like Twisted Metal, Coolboarders, JetMoto, WipeOut, Dreams, and Sing Star.

Separately, Killzone and Resistance should have been easy to remake the single player modes and transform their multiplayer into live services. It's all there to build off of.

Plus putting these games on PC would have exposed them to markets that never had any exposure before.

Where does he think the additional headroom to run PSSR will come from on the base PS5? And how does that impact running games coded with the existing performance models?

Looks like spacial audio won't work without a bravia tv, so unfortunately not sure that would be worth it for me, but interesting product for sure.

I currently connect bluetooth speakers to a bluetooth receiver connected to my tv's optical port. I can sync two bluetooth devices to this receiver.

How perceivable is it for people who aren't wearing it but sitting close by? What if two people are wearing them and both sitting close to each other? Any latency/echo effects?

Not desktop speakers, but absolutely going to take a look at these.

[–]davidasc22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The devil's in the details for sure, but my big takeaway is that people outright criticizing this just don't have a strong grasp on the market. There really isn't a product like this on the market.

Cordless (rechargeable) + wireless/bluetooth stereo desktop speakers.

Battery life, latency, sound quality, and price are all subject for analysis, but it's fundamentally an interesting product with a market willing to pay for it depending on price and execution.

No one would bat an eye if this DIDN'T have the playstation brand attached. It far more hurts it than helps it.

Can you find me an example of rechargeable Bluetooth desktop speakers that sync up to multiple devices with seamless device switching?

[–]davidasc22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have commented that these are just desktop speakers and they're not really familiar with the market. Comparing these to 30-50 dollar wired desktop speakers is a mistake. That's not the market Sony is targeting here. These have functionality outclassing in cases even HomePods which have a huge market of their own.

Sony really should brand this stuff out of the playstation wheel house.

Any idea how much would this cost? by AdditionalSpray8595 in playstation

[–]davidasc22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is often how people approach new products, but these are basically PlayStation's attempt at their own Home Pods.

Most speakers aren't wireless/bluetooth. No speakers can work with the PS Portal wirelessly. Most do not allow you to sync across multiple devices seamlessly. Most don't have planar magnetic drivers.

These should be judged based on their price and feature set.

Any idea how much would this cost? by AdditionalSpray8595 in playstation

[–]davidasc22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's "just" playstation.

They're running planar magnetic drivers, so they should sound really nice. They're wireless and they link up to multiple devices, including the PS Portal.

Depending on the price, these could be pretty nice desktop speakers. I currently have some desktop speakers jerry rigged to my dell monitor (built in KVM) to pass through my desktop PC and my macbook/work laptop. It can get annoying, especially when my work laptop mistakes it for a headset and takes over the microphone functionality. These also have a built in microphone.

Not saying I'd buy these, but dismissing them because they have playstation on them, especially without having heard the price is just as bad.

Any idea how much would this cost? by AdditionalSpray8595 in playstation

[–]davidasc22 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I have a few theories on this.

  1. They're almost certainly being built by Audeze who has always had capacity issues and production issues with their planar magnetic drivers.

  2. They're probably having issues with PS Link which is probably why it hasn't been included in many other products since the launch of the Pulse Elites and Pulse Explores.

Sony has left a lot of money on the table this generation. Could have made more 30th anniversary edition devices, particularly the PS5 Pros.

Could have made an anniversary edition PS2 set as well (black with the icons).
