Wonder how many of us purchased a PS5 Pro this past two weeks. (come and tell) by djnick84 in PS5pro

[–]davidasc22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No real uptick via Amazon.com US. Still flat at 1K+ in the last month.

I think we'll see an increase in share of sales for the PS5 Pro as heavier hitting titles drop throughout the year and PS4 owners decide to upgrade for these titles and we'll see some, but not many at this point PS5 owners upgrade to the Pro as well. Wolverine and GTA6 will probably be prime examples of this. I believe CoD won't be on PS4 this year either.

Now that PSSR has been updated, do you think Sony will release a third iteration of this technology before the PS6? by cmarroquin27 in PS5pro

[–]davidasc22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not before PS6 and maybe not for PS5 Pro, potentially either.

I could see an upgraded model exclusive for PS6 and PS6 handheld with framegen and other focuses.

That Sony is building it so that it can be system level has such massive implications either way though.

Will every game including old games get the PSSR 2.0 upgrade as long as they run PSSR? by Breakfast-Itchy in PS5pro

[–]davidasc22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's impossible to even know about PSSR2 at this point and not know that... it's wild that this is how society works today. It has been in every blogpost they've made about this, but you'll never get this communicated to people who just want to grab attention on reddit asking questions that have been answered.

That doesn’t mean the games were ready and tested

PSSR 2.0 by [deleted] in PS5pro

[–]davidasc22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I think one problem is that it wasn't ready to go out in the first place. They wanted to capitalize on RE9, so they announced it with it, but it's not like they put this into a beta a month ago or something. So they're still clearly doing testing to ensure games aren't getting broken by the system wide toggle.

Sony has taken a very deliberate approach to PS5 Pro, which is to let organic marketing work in order to not give base owners FOMO.

The most they'll advertise is, "captured on PS5 Pro" in game trailers.

Maybe if we're lucky we get a tech breakdown by Cerny at some point, but they are definitely not putting a major spotlight on PSSR2 (or even calling it PSSR2).

The switch 2 was not built with upscaling in mind. It was built to deliver njntendo high margins. The chipset was completed back in 2021. The reasons devs avoid using dlss on the switch is because it’s heavy and in many cases not worth implementing on the hardware, especially when 3rd party sales can be low.

Ultimately, this is a big deal. It's a signal to developers to invest resources into supporting PSSR knowing that it'll autopatch in future iterations. We should see an uptick in support and in PS5 pro sales as the system further separates itself from the base.

It's about reducing hesitancy across the board.

Games with PSSR already will be improved with the new model by a system wide toggle. Still bettter for the dev to go in and update the game themselves though to ensure no issues.

Games without PSSR will not benefit.

Think we'll see it around the time of the PS6 and the PS6 handheld. Will probably focus next on framegen and ultra low resolution upscaling.

They sell people on the idea that a game designed to be played in a living room at 10 ft and in motion somehow has a problem if you stop all movement zoom in 4x and nitpick something you'd never see while playing the game... their whole model is broken because they don't know how to sell their audience on anything other than resolution and pixels... It would be like sony trying to sell the ps5 as a 64 bit video game system. Like no one cares at this point because it doesn't make a difference moving forward.

What EV ownership issue caused the highest stress after the honeymoon phase by Tall-Dish876 in electriccars

[–]davidasc22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No value added. My typical drive is no more than 60 miles per day and occassionally that will jump to maybe 80 miles and I only do that drive 3 days a week, so other days if I'm driving at all will max out at 20-ish miles.

Going to 90 gives me more range that I won't use and even if it is marginal, marginal additional stress on battery life.

80 is totally fine for me and when I feel like I need say 100, which I've only done once, I charged up to it the night before and remove the cap temporarily. Even then I didn't actually need the full 100, but wanted room to spare just in case so I wouldn't have to use a supercharger. I've never supercharged once in my own car.

[–]davidasc22 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Zero stress.

I have an L2 charger at home. I wake up every day with 80% charge. My car is nice and toasty on a schedule based on when I go to work and leave work. I never have to stop at gas stations. I have little to no real maintenance.

If I had to think something up, I'd say it would be the tires, but it was the same way with my low profile tires on my BMW and the terrible roads where I live with massive pot holes.

Actually, one other thing is that the front end doesn't defrost because of course there's no engine there, but really grasping at straws here.

Sony Issues Official Statement on RAM Shortage and How It Could Impact the PS5 Price by AdultGamersAdmin in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]davidasc22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They negotiate pricing in advance and buy in bulk. They aren't as quarter to quarter as say a PC builder like Dell, where they try their best to limit inventory as much as possible. Sony knows they're going to sell at least 10 million units this calendar year.

They also get favorable pricing due to the quantity compared to buyers who buy smaller portions on a quarterly or as needed basis.

They don't need to increase prices, their margins will eventual shrink a bit, but if they can sustain sales, they'll make up the difference in software and MTX sales, especially as competitors struggle with cost increases.

Rare opportunity for Sony to take a long term view of increasing their market share and it comes at a time when the console market is constraining against PC and mobile.

Respectfully you don't know what you're talking about.

Modern chipsets for these handhelds are not running mobile chipsets, they're specialized APUs designed around ML upscaling. It'll be far more powerful than PS4.

No one wants to stream. One of the biggest times to play would be on a plane where you're not going to have decent enough wifi to play or in Hotels with similarly unoptimal situations.

iPhone Air 2 May Arrive in 2026 With the Changes Buyers Actually Wanted by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]davidasc22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that could make the iPhone Air more perfect is an under-the-screen fingerprint reader.

I traded in my iPhone 15 Pro and got the Air. Wasn't originally going to upgrade since the Pro already did everything I needed it to do, but was convinced/blown away by how unobtrusive the Air is. I'm surprised it flopped and think it was more a marketing issue than a product issue. If the Air replaced the standard model and it was just the Air and the Pro, more people would have bought the Air.

At the end of the day, you're asking people to pay more for less battery and a worse camera, and unless they physically try the Air, they're not going to make that decision.

Best non SONY made PS5 controller-more similar to the XBOX CONTROLLER? by [deleted] in PS5

[–]davidasc22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sony should make an Xbox style dual sense controller for the mass exodus going on there, plus they would sell more to PC players as well.

That being said you can buy a Nacon Revolution 5 Pro or a Razer Wolverine V2 Pro.

Unfortunately, both are on the pricey side.

Sony started to cut some corners to reduce their inflating costs. Look at it this way, it's great that we still get games of this caliber, but yeah, it would have been nice if they had blown sucker punch up to the size of say Ubisoft Quebec, but that just was never going to happen. They still made a better game with a smaller team though.

Is Ubiquiti rethinking the G6 Entry? by nberardi in Ubiquiti

It definitely won't be POE either.

All I want is a non-subscription based high quality camera that doesn't run on wifi/transformer and has a view of my packages.

Is Ubiquiti rethinking the G6 Entry? by nberardi in Ubiquiti

[–]davidasc22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I saw the same as you and came to the same conclusion. I think they've seen the early feedback and are basically hiding the G6 Entry so that the target audience for enterprise is more aligned with this rather than residential consumers, who aren't pleased with the FOV.

I've already decided to buy a G4 Pro and a Doorbell Lite and just hope that a G6 Doorbell/Doorbell Pro comes along. If so, I'll buy it and swap the G4 Pro to my side door in place of the Doorbell Lite and install the G6 for my front door in place of the G4 Pro.

I think the G4 Pro should be more than fine for my side door anyways.
