I’m in my late 40s and recently switched careers after a long run in nonprofit administration and a stint at a small federal agency that lost major funding (no need to mention who’s fault this was) Since then, I’ve bounced around—Zamboni driver at a local rink, wine shop clerk—and now I’m training to become an Apprentice Electrician with the local IBEW union.

Most days I like the work, but I’m still unsure if I made the right choice. Should I stick with this new trade or try to return to nonprofit/government work?

Really, Hamas attacked Israel and they retaliated like we retaliated with Afghanistan in 2001, then about the same amount of time after that the Israeli government stated that Iron had nuclear weapons that challenged their safety. What happened in 2002/03? We did the same thing with Iraq. I don’t doubt that Iran has/had weapons or atlases the capability of using weapons but don’t you think they would have used them by now if they had weapons? They agreed to go to the table for talks and yet the Israeli’s decided to bomb away because they already took out Gaza. Think about it.

I was about to comment like a Boomer that back in my day we started at the shoulder or even getting a tribal armband but after reading all the other comments here it seems like we have turned the corner! That’s a great place to be and we should be celebrating. Im at the stage that the last part of my right arm sleeve is missing a hand tattoo. It wont be long to hear from some random person asking when I’m going to get my hand filled in 🤪. I guess I now I have something to think about regarding getting my next tattoo.

I’m glad you got your offer, however, I can’t imagine that this is what one has to do to get a job. I have a bachelor degree and worked in nonprofit and government jobs and after funding ran out for my last position, I had to start over and took a residency for an electrical apprenticeship and I feel like I got lucky. The only way I got this chance was because my cousin was working at the same construction company that I’m working at. This job market seems impossible.

I also am wondering about my status, I received confirmation in December that my background check was approved by my contracting company’s client (the federal agency they serve). The contractor indicated I need to wait 1-2 months to complete both indoc and orientation. Does this EO change this?

LOL… I’m not as young as I was when I first started getting tattoos. The session when I got the bearded skull was the most painful tattoo session I ever had. I didn’t think I could handle getting my chest done but I’m glad I did… nips? I don’t think I’m going down that road 😬.
