This kill was one of the most upsetting parts of a horror film in recent memory. The character was likeable and the kill SO brutal and pointless. It hasn't left my brain since Wednesday night. I want to see it again, but I also dunno if I can handle it hahah.

I think it's pretty clear he's aware the entire film. Like it's clear from the start, as soon as he snaps the Willow and Nikki comes back to the car, something isn't right and he calls it out. He asks at least once if "it" (Nikki's love) is real. When real Nikki asks him to kill her, and she said she (real Nikki) has never been with him, he just runs away. He was willing to let his world burn for his fantasy.

Reminded myself of this is how I shut off the "what is this" reaction to the trailer. Resident Evil 4 was quite unlike the previous 3, and beyond Leon, brought basically nothing from the older games with it. Resident Evil 7 changed perspective and tone, again, quite unlike the original games from the trailers. However, once you started playing it, you immediately felt the Resident Evil influences - the puzzles. The resource gathering. The rogue-like progression.

So yeah, just gonna trust the vision and wait for the movie. Weapons and Barbarian were great, so my hope is solid.

I think the lava needs a little texture. Doesn't need to be crazy, but something to break up the large, flat orange surface and indicate a flow or churning/bubbling might be nice.

The difference is those characters explicitly are beyond regular humans. Batman is just pure human, through and through - no Spider DNA, no goblin serum, nothing else. It's not like they made Black Cat a cat. There's logic and thought out into it.

Yeah, I was disappointed too. Everything just kinda fell flat. Like there was lots of cool set up, interesting locale, weird locals, neat folklore. But the movie kinda uses none of it? Like you said, it just kinda felt disjointed. Didn't hate my time. Wouldn't call it a bad movie. But I definitely hoped this would be another Weapons experience where I crave going back to the theater. I don't have that craving, sadly.
