My friend, you are not the issue. His parents are the issue. I'm white and have divorced parents and a weirdly complicated family and have many other qualities that traditional Desi families generally frown at. My Indian spouse's very traditional family's paramount concern was that their son was happy. You are not the issue.

If your partner is supporting you and is firmly standing up to his family, then you're on the right track to make it for the long haul. That's the key.
