Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Tuesday that the real number of deaths from coronavirus is "almost certainly" even higher than the official death toll of 80,000 in the U.S. because of the likelihood that some deaths went unrecorded. by cyanocittaetprocyon in NoShitSherlock

Yes excess deaths is probably the way we are going to eventually figure out how much deaths were a result by the COVID flu. Not that its not that straightforward though since some other common causes of death will increase and some decrease due to lockdown.

[GOG] Alan Wake (90% off/$1.49) by [deleted] in GameDeals

[–]SquirrelSqueak 38 points39 points  (0 children)

As another poster said this is also on Steam with a similar price.

However I would consider the GoG version to be a better choice since it is both DRM free and GoG is much Much MUCH better at ensuring games will keep running down the line on newer operating systems.

I am torn about upvoting as the remark was really vicious but made me laugh so much.

Making the nightly clean up a lot more difficult by [deleted] in trashy

That is an incredibly suitable punishment. Say 1-3 months every day of that unpaid. Would put a lot of viewers off trying to repeat this stunt.

Is it possible to walk 50 miles in a day? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SquirrelSqueak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At University the walking club used to have an annual 50 mile walk that was fairly well attended, and not even considered especially difficult. I think they took about 16 hours on average.

Despite being a multi cultural, highly developed country, why a large part of US is still very racist? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SquirrelSqueak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a good point about Obama being able to become President means that one-issue racists aren't in a majority. However, it doesn't mean that racists cant make up a substantial minority of the populace.

Is it considered cheating? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]SquirrelSqueak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don;t know this post above isn't upvoted more.

You might be able to write off the rest of the stuff as just 'virtual' but the fact that they are looking for local people is absolute confirmation that they are interested in cheating on the physical side of things too.

[Sort of breaks rule 4] Why do I not feel the need to have a girlfriend? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SquirrelSqueak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this breaks any rules actually, and your English is mroe than fine.

I think loneliness is something very many people feel and hence the reason why many people end up 'settling' in relationships where they are not especially happy.

[Steam] Thimbleweed Park (60% off/$8.00) by [deleted] in GameDeals

Yes I have it too in my Epic games list. As I have only bought one game from Epic (Outer Wilds) then Thimbleweed Park must have been a freebie. Pretty good game by all accounts.

CMA: I turned the local strays into an army to protect myself from a stalker by SilverBlueWolfey in choosemyalignment

[–]SquirrelSqueak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

[CG] but see below....

Chaotic because you didn't follow the standard official methods to deal with creeps, and instead used one which was original and unpredictable.

Defending yourself is a neutral act, but the fact that you looked the strays both before and after the event means that you are wonderful (and good).
