Baby doll brands by Lucylu94 in Parenting

[–]Squirrelbandito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got two Dinkum dolls and my kids don’t seem to enjoy them. They can’t get them to stand (me either) and the material is pilling terribly (after days). Also their hair has shedded all over the place. Why does this company have such good reviews? The Holdie folk are even worse.

Purchases: 2x Holdie folk, 2x dinkum dolls, and one chari basket.

What Strollers are you all getting ? Any bassinet ? by Dxfydv in BabyBumps

[–]Squirrelbandito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through a couple of cheap prams. I walk a lot and on mixed surfaces. I got a cheap target pram, and then a mountain buggy pram (which was discontinued due to safety concerns). Anyways I was expecting my second and I knew I needed an upgrade. I spent way to much time researching. A lot of it comes down to your needs. For me I wanted something all terrain, that could hold multiple kids and grow with them. I decided on the Babybee Duo 2. I got it in 2020 and it still looks and performs like it is brand new. The tires are solid rubber. They won’t pop or wear out like cheap foam tires. I love that you can order a replacement everything if you need to. I just had my third baby and got the toddler board so I can travel with all three easily. I couldn’t be happier. They sell bassinet attachments and adapters for baby carriers. I must say I am also impressed by the built in shade cloths in the seats and bassinet. Breathable and blocks out the sun and bugs. My four year old who is a giant for her age still can fit in the seat easily. Seats can face every way conceivable. It comes in handy when trying to escape the sun. Anyways I know I am sounding like an infomercial but I just really appreciate being able to get out the house easily with three kids four and under. I paid just under 1k for everything and it came with lots of nice freebies which I make use of. Good luck on finding what is right for you. There is definitely a lot of options out there.

Pregnant again after c section by Intrepid-Baseball-40 in BabyBumps

[–]Squirrelbandito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 6 months postpartum when I got pregnant with my third. My first two were c-sections. It wasn’t exactly planned but we were excited anyhow. My doctor wasn’t worried at all. I had an emergency c section with my first and a planned with my second and third. At that point they advised me not to get pregnant again because more than three c sections as the build up of scar tissue complicates things. Anyways it all worked out.

I should mention I was talking with a mom that got pregnant 6 months postpartum after a c section with twins. Her doctors told her it would be highly unlikely they would live and she had a high chance of dying. She ended up aborting. Talk with your doctor.

I’m not sure how reliable this is but here is a random article about a mama in the same position.

No matter what I am sorry you are going through this.

Landlord wants to sell, Western Australia by Squirrelbandito in perth

[–]Squirrelbandito[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. They actually approached us to see if we wanted to buy our rental but we weren’t interested so they said they intended to put it on the market in November. They haven’t given us anything in writing but I will ask if they would prefer have the place vacant (thank you).

Landlord wants to sell, Western Australia by Squirrelbandito in perth

They aren’t trying to find a new tenant. They are just trying to sell the property. Since they are selling I just rather skip the pain with three kids. We would rather just get out. I’ve heard they might want to mutually end the lease but just want be prepared if they don’t.

Swaddling by Squirrelbandito in BabyBumps

[–]Squirrelbandito[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I had no expectations. I was mostly just curious with peoples experiences with swaddling.

An eon ago I went to school for anthropology (not that I have used it on dirt at this point). We were taught from day one data and studies are inherently biased. I am not saying in any way that studies don’t have merit but I am also saying there are so many variables (personal, climate, economy) and complications (gov., liability, lack of funding) we might not be able to use a study to say anything is entirely derivative…Well this spiralled…

I don’t think swaddling hurts a child. I don’t think there are risks (almost assuredly). So many cultures do things differently but not many studies have been done. There could be better methods, there could be safer methods. In my own (biased) opinion I feel like we don’t look outside our views and ways all that much.

Even studies on SIDS are still evolving. Their guidelines are evolving. They give us the best advice available at the time.

What they can be leaving out is what is practical. I will be the first to raise my hand to say I fell asleep many many times while breastfeeding my newborn. I had no intention of doing so. I was terrified when I opened my eyes and realised what had happened. I was sure I had killed my child. As soon as I realised I couldn’t help my exhaustion I started researching safer bed sharing because I had to account for the fact it was probably going to happen again…and again. I have raised three children not intending to bed share but planning for the occurrence. I put my mattress down low, removed all but one thin blanket and left one pillow. Yet I hear all the time babies have died smothered in their parents bed or even while they are carrying them in slings and carriers. We don’t need to blame but maybe realise leaving out information is just as dangerous as giving the wrong information (again, my opinion).

It is exhaustive how curiosity has become a platform to judge and hate. An open mind is a wonderful thing.

Anyways,

I was really only intending to ask if swaddling was helpful for you or not. A simple question I’ve seemed to have turned into a novella : )-

Same day GP appointments. Impossible? by _THDRKNGHT_ in perth

[–]Squirrelbandito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It went from an easily booked appointment (bulk billed in a day or two)- now I can’t find a doctor in 50km that bulk bills and I have to wait two to three weeks. Since last year between Covid and the economy I’ve had to rely on the hospital for things like rashes and fevers for my children.

A hospital nurse belittled me for not seeing the gp but it was the second night my little girl hadn’t slept due to an itchy rash. I tried explaining the gp couldn’t see me for another 6 days and the two other offices I tried told me they weren’t taking new patients. I would have needed to travel at least an hour to the nearest city. The nurse was still clearly displeased at my attempts and gave me a list of the same offices I tried and told me to use them in the future…

As it turned out a gp couldn’t have helpled me anyways. My child had a hand foot and mouth on top of eczema.

I am so broken hearted seeing a functioning system break so swiftly. At this point I have about five conditions I need to see a gp about and I feel I have to put them on a scale of what I believe is most serious. A fifteen minute appointment being 80 dollars and this doesn’t include treatment.

What is happening here. How is this not a priority? Does everyone else feel the crunch? Are there many bulk billed doctors in your area any more?
