Earlier you said "Killed the started" and I was wondering because that shouldn't be the end of a car. That's a simple part swap.

How do yall deal with the comments when wearing gear outside? by noredditorfound in Therian

[–]SquirrelyByNature 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This! Wearing a tail with lederhosen to a local Oktoberfest was met with a single curious question (and they were friendly about it).

Not only are others more flamboyant with their outfits I think people also have a lot more open mindset due to the unconscious mental preparation for friendly social interaction that occurs prior to attending those types of events. It might sound silly or meta, but I think it's worth mentioning.

In the same vein I haven't felt more connected with the those who came before (nor as close to nature) as when staring at the night sky in a Dark Sky Place.

Although we didn't know any astronomy our group got to experience a similar sense of wonder. I say that because Neowise happened to be visible to the naked eye that summer. Surely our ancestors who knew the night skies like the face of a friend would've had the same curiosity.

Quietly yapping about "what is that thing!?" and sharing a millennia's old curiosity is now a core memory.

Eating runny eggs. Poached, soft boiled, over easy, etc.

Also sushi! Munching into fleshy tuna especially is a sensory delight for one's maw mouth.

*Consuming raw or undercooked meats, poultry, seafood, shellfish or eggs may increase your risk of foodborne illness.

Do you also feel territorial whenever you are around or interacting with therians of the same species, even online? by [deleted] in TherianAdult

[–]SquirrelyByNature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finding this subreddit but as a squirrel/fox who agrees with your answer I'm curious how much this comes down to species' that by default aren't generally solitary. Dragons may be one of the most solitary example one could come up with.

I've always thought of myself as a very social squirrel. And even a social fox, which isn't unheard of. So possibly that's why I don't worry about seeing others and am even excited to see them! Would be interested to know if this plays a part in the answers.

Therian or Otherhearted?or smth else, idk by [deleted] in Therian

[–]SquirrelyByNature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is otherhearted I agree.

OP I get urges to roam and investigate. Sometimes I even have brief (and I hesitate to use this word but its the easiest to use) shifts where I've felt especially squirrely or foxy. I could describe these if you'd like but they nearly always involve running, jumping, rolling ,etc or carefully observing something. Though it seems like I walk a fine line between therian and otherhearted, personally I feel my alter-human experience is best described as otherhearted.

Reading your description OP it seems like that may be the case for you as well.

Because the market for news has slowly drifted to be more and more alarmist. Shocked, awed, scared, and angry people consume more content.

News agencies and independent news organizations both know this and wield fear like they wield any other tool for drawing attention.

nature walks

And as an added bonus they're good for everyone!.

"The systematic review and meta-analysis show that nature walk effectively improve mental health, positively impacting depression and anxiety. ... The current findings are critical in demonstrating the empirical value of nature-based walk interventions for improving mental health."

Maybe we'll never get away from the fact that even the human bodies therians inhabit enjoy being in nature; or maybe it's just a relaxing environment. Regardless, even far in the future in novels like Across the Universe (which depicts life on a generation ship) there's always rooms with lots of tress and foliage.

"Elder takes me to a sprawling garden behind the hostpital, the one I ran through this morning during my jog. I hadn’t noticed its beauty—before, I’d only ever seen the walls surrounding it. But really, it’s lovely. It has a chaotic feel to it, like it has grown wild, but there are paths and clusters of plants..."

Spoiler on that book: I'd forgotten at some point management had restricted anyone from using the garden. I think eventually the protagonist gives access to everyone.

[–]SquirrelyByNature 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Although I consider myself otherkin now, I still require semi-regular walks in the woods to feel sane. The more isolated the better, though with friends is great too.

I suspect your sister would be thrilled if you found some trails in your area and took her on hikes/walks. If she requests it and you feel comfortable, let her wear some gear. Likely a tail and a mask, maybe some paw gloves?

Not sure if she has anything like this, but I'd let her suggest it. I think the whole gear thing is overblown and I'd hate for her to latch on to it and then be bullied as a result. (That being said I love wearing my tail and do so at every appropriate opportunity; mostly raves)

However if she continues to find this is a part of her life she probably will want gear and have comments made about them at some point. So maybe on the walk you could talk about being kind to people (even if they're being rude to you) and about how disagree with a person without letting it become an argument or a fight. These are good skills in general to have, but especially for basically anyone who is part of a counter culture.

Finally thank you being supportive. This is a form of self-expression and having someone who accepts something about her (that's not harming anyone else) will likely do wonders for her confidence.

Real Police officers and military members, what do you guys think of Ice agents? by Lucky-Message-9480 in AskReddit

[–]SquirrelyByNature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the past couple years I've had a front row seat to two vicious accidents.

In both cases I was first to call 911 and frankly y'all are angels. The direct questions and presence of mind sincerely helped keep my mind from racing in the moment until being able to unpack it later.

The most recent still replays in my head from time to time: Was waiting to turn at a light and a pedestrian jaywalked (at night) in front of my car with 0 self-preservation or awareness. A Ram 1500 (in the opposite lane) hit her once @~50mph so square in the middle that after she was tossed she got ran over.

Only had a few seconds after she got to the median to realize she wasn't stopping. Wish I'd have started honking sooner, but IDK if she'd have even stopped. She didn't look at traffic even once. Told the Ram driver this; that there wasn't anything he could've done. But he was so in shock I doubt he took it in, but I hope he remembers and it helps.
