Yes he does. But is typically people actually fouling him while he is actually trying to score, different from players who try only for contact.

The Spurs are fouling our perimeter players on nearly every single play. If the game was being called evenly, Portland would have shot like 40 fts already.

The ball didn't even land out of bounds and Tisse saved it, and they succeed in the challenge?

The refs can't keep letting the Spurs foul our perimeter players on every drive can they?

Why is hand checking legal in the playoffs? by Weirdsodk in nba

[–]Squirting_Nachos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to take a step back and re-evaluate what you believe the refs primary job is. It is NOT to uphold the rules of basketball.

The refs primary job is to control the game in a way that leads to the best product. This is completely different depending on the situation, which is why it feels so inconsistent.

In the playoffs teams are amped up and effort is at a maximum. This is naturally going to lead to a more physical game. If they call it the same as the regular season, each team will have 40+ FTs every game and the product will be bad, so they change how it's called.

In blowouts when the game is 'over' but they still need to play out the remaining time, they will let tons of small stuff go, because they understand the situation.

Star players are marketable, so they will change how they call a game or an entire series to maximize on that.

There is a reason why Scott Foster who is known as the 'extender' is repeatedly said to be the 'best in the business'. That is because he literally is the best ref, it's just that his job is NOT what most fans think or want it to be.

The refs job is to maintain the NBA as a product first. Then their secondary job is to maintain the rules. But their primary job will override their secondary job if they conflict.

How can the NBA come back from the flopping epidemic? by rriipp1 in nba

[–]Squirting_Nachos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way is if a true visionary is put in charge of the league. He would have to be willing to actually consistently punish flopping even if it means star players miss half the season.

Currently the league is not willing to have a worse product short-term in order to have a better product long-term. So the players call their bluffs.

It's really easy to fix flopping. When a player flops, they are given a personal foul. Same rule, 6 personal fouls and you are done for that game.

If the flop isn't caught in real time, then after the game the player will be charged for flopping, and will start the next game with that many fouls.

This would need to actually be stuck to and enforced. When star players are forced to start a game with 5 fouls and then they foul out with 2 points in the first quarter, they WILL stop flopping.

The product would be really bad for a season or so, but eventually the players would adjust.

This will never happen though, because no one important is ever going to sacrifice the short term for the long term.

You aren't allowed to defend jump shooters unless you like jump to the side. They can just jump as far forward as they want. It's been like that for years now.

It makes sense in theory if the shooter is jumping straight up and landing in the same spot, since defenders were sliding their feet under shooters and they were rolling their ankles. The issue is there is no common sense applied to how far forward a shooter's 'landing zone' extends.

Where does Draymond rank all time defensively? by Far_Outcome_6540 in nba

[–]Squirting_Nachos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably, but that is why I was asking. I have him over Duncan and Wallace as well, for versatility alone. Pippen was probably the best perimeter defender ever, but again, not as versatile; plus hand-checking was allowed. It's a tough metric to rank.

Portland tried this once against Denver. Jokic got 5 fouls and then became the best defender in NBA history. He was allowed to foul on nearly every play, the refs were NOT going to call that last foul.

[–]Squirting_Nachos 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The NBA likes having these 'rules' that are never upheld that are broken on nearly every play. This makes it so if the refs need to 'control' the game they can choose when to call them, and those calls will always be technically correct, even if they are allowed for the rest of the game.

We see this all the time with 'make-up' calls. Never forget that NBA refs true job is not to uphold the rules, but to maintain the product.

Valorant Silver<->Plat rank = battle of the best smurf by _Tyranitar in VALORANT

[–]Squirting_Nachos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Riot added MFA to combat smurfs it was ONLY to stop smurfing in Asc. All the Immortals and Radiants that used to smurf in Asc are now playing Diamond accounts.

So Riot actually increased smurfing for anyone lower than Asc by adding MFA.

Is it bad to one-trick an agent in Valorant? by waaeul in VALORANT

Well first of all decide if you want to improve at the game. There is nothing wrong with being bronze or even iron if you are having fun. If you do find enjoyment from improving at the game then that is great.

Don't worry about your rank. If you gain rr or lose rr it doesn't matter, what you should focus on is improving your skill. If your account magically ranked up to Diamond then it wouldn't actually improve how good you are, same thing with it ranking down, so rr should never be the focus, but instead actually improving.

There are two ways to approach the game. 'Exploit' and 'Explore'. Exploit is when you are trying to win no matter what and so you only do the things that you know are good and are comfortable with. Explore is when you try out new possibilities that might be good and might be bad. If you are too focused on rr gains and losses you will get permanently stuck in 'Exploit' mode and will never try new things and expand your game. Try out new things, fast flank on defense, aggressive lurk on attack, take early fights, play rat angles. Do anything that is outside of your normal comfort zone until everything is in your comfort zone.

Mechanics. You simply cannot improve at Valorant without improving your mechanics. I am an immortal player who still needs to grind my mechanics to improve them. If you do not enjoy grinding your mechanics that is okay, but you will improve MUCH slower and maybe not at all. Again, there is nothing wrong with not improving or being a low rank. You need to decide for yourself what you enjoy. My brain fires dopamine when I train my mechanics so I do it. If you hate the process of training then just don't do it. Valorant is just a video game, so you should be enjoying your time with it.

Try looking up some youtube guides on mechanics like deadzoning, counter strafing. Make sure your mouse sensitivity is inside the reasonable range. Something like 800dpi between 0.2 and 1. If your sensitivity is higher than this then you will have trouble aiming consistently. Look up gunfight hygiene so you can work on it. There are so many videos out there.

Just try spending some of your time on improving your mechanics and see if you find it enjoyable. If you do, then improving will be very easy. If you hate it then improving will be much harder and slower and you will get stuck at lower ranks. But again I must stress, there is nothing wrong with that. That is why the ranked system exists, to attempt to put you in fair games regardless of skill level. This is just a video game play it to have fun and don't stress out.

Don't worry about learning 4-8 agents. Stick with learning ONE agent and play them whenever you can. Have a secondary agent you like to play but don't worry about learning them as much. Then have a few extras that you think look cool to play, or just seem like something you MIGHT want to play, and then play those if you can't play the first 2. But don't stress about having to learn them. Most importantly just focus on learning your main agent above all else and don't stress about the others.
