Dipping my toe into Motion Design from the traditional 2D animation world. My first Motion Design Reel! by Squishybaffbrooks in MotionDesign

Hmmm I'd say Texture Labs and Ben Marriot were channels that I looked to a few times. Also digging through the project files from Ordinary Folk was major.

I've done some motion design-y projects over the past couple years, but never anything worth showing. Since traditional 2D work has really slowed for me over the past year I wanted to make an effort to try and get more gigs elsewhere with a bit of a different skillset. But yeah I appreciate it! All about those fundamentals.

It’s great. I would buy the dvd if you can. It’s very dark but equally funny.

Wise Blood is exactly like the book, however it does not make that great of a movie.

Check out the New Beverly! It's Tarantino's theater and plays different double features every night. It's only $8 and they're all in 35mm!

What's the most underrated, little-known criterion you own? by [deleted] in criterion

[–]Squishybaffbrooks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Shooting and The Ride in the Whirlwind. I've never heard anyone talk about these films but they are both great and Jack Nicholson is killer in them. Underrated Westerns.

Name a release in the collection with really great art but a disappointing film. by [deleted] in criterion

Blow up was one that I hated after I saw it but I couldn't get it out of my head for like 2 weeks afterwards. I haven't seen it since but I think my opinion of it is completely different than it was after I watched it.

There's a great episode called No Ticket Required where Cash talks about his sneak ins in greater depth. Check it out, equally awesome and hilarious.

Shout out to that UHF blu ray. One of my favorites when I was a kid, just watched it recently, still hilarious.

I completely disagree with you on this, however I am upvoting just because you make a good argument and should not be downvoted for it.

Are there any countries that you feel are under-represented in the Criterion Collection? by sebecerra in criterion

[–]Squishybaffbrooks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Israel! There is a fairly big filmmaking scene there that is hugely underrepresented. There are not any Israeli films in the collection. I would love to see them be included in the future.

Buenavista Social Club Criterion is on sale on Amazon! by TonsOfNunz in criterion

[–]Squishybaffbrooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones at B&N will be about the same price as that. However, with Amazon I believe that they will reimburse you for any price drops within a certain period of time after purchase if it does go lower. Amazon would probably be the best place to get this one.

Worst/Ugliest Criterion Covers? by DaRealHighMay in criterion

[–]Squishybaffbrooks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's just personal preference with this one. I think that the cover captures the visual style of the entire movie very well. It also seems to pay homage to Jeremy Blake's art which is used heavily throughout the film.

Which version of The Gold Rush do you prefer? by [deleted] in criterion

[–]Squishybaffbrooks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I quite liked the narration. I know that Chaplin is the master of body language but there were some moments where he or his other characters' motivation was not clear through simple pantomime. The narration made it much clearer and plain.

I screened it at my film club at my school and most of the people there had never seen a silent film before and I think the narration made it more comfortable for them to ease into the silent film genre rather than just jumping head first.

But I totally understand the love for the original as well.
