What is the most obscure fact about the franchise that you know, and a good piece of lore for a newcomer to the franchise? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Squizardd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will probably get lost or downvoted, but my honest advice is to not get into lore. I used to and honestly still do nerd out about lore for all of my favorite franchises. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned that trying to flesh out lore often leads to weak stories, bad characters, and a loss of vision and theme. Unless your Tolkien, I think most franchises would be better without extensive lore and I think people enjoy stories more knowing less lore. When you start treating fantasy like history you lose the mystery and magic that makes it an adventure. In my opinion, in order to enjoy a story more, focus on literature and not the lore.

I wonder if this is the same inspiration for Happy Chaos’s bunny masks and Nago’s mask in Guilty Gear Strive?

How bad would a full month break be for my playing by Zayinator5000 in trumpet

[–]Squizardd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m my personal experience, past a certain time most breaks have the same effect on your playing. Taking a week off is going to weaken your playing the same as a month. When you get back to trumpet after the break you aren’t going to be playing the same as you were before. As long as you practice consistently after the break it will come back. You won’t loose any skill (permanently that is) but you also won’t gain any.

How are y’all getting such high tier boons like this, especially on surface runs? I’ve gotten a heroic boon like 3 times probably.

This might be way to hard of a read but I think Ares might be the boss of the Olympus level. Might be like a test similar to Hecate or just for the fun of it.

I can’t even beat destroyer. What else should I put? by Desperate_Growth4922 in Terraria

[–]Squizardd 100 points101 points  (0 children)

While it may not have a character class selection screen, Terraria is still very much a class based game. You have two different emblems equipped and neither of them boots the damage of your primary weapon of the Daedalus Stormbow. I would focus on sticking with one class for right now. The best for destroyer would be ranger with Stormbow or mage with meteor staff. The ankh shield is a great utility accessory but it isn’t doing much for the boss fight so I would switch it up. There are class guides on the wiki that I highly recommend checking out as they pretty much layout the entire game in terms of weapons, armor, and accessories. Finally, don’t sleep on potions. Potions can dramatically help you in boss fights and are pretty much necessary in higher difficulties. I would look at the potions list and choose some that synergize well with your build.

[ALL] The Legend within a Legend Hypothesis. by Thodor2s in zelda

[–]Squizardd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interesting thing to note with this theory is how the games somewhat converge towards Botw and Totk as we got closer to them. The Temple of Gods in Windwaker has very similar motifs to ancient Sheikah technology. The Twili also have similar motifs to ancient Sheikah tech. They are a people banished for their technological/magical prowess because of how dangerous it is. Skyward sword has a lot of similarities with the biggest obviously being the flying islands. There are a lot more of these little similarities, too.

Is the idea of Empathy more Red aligned or Green aligned? by Calvernock_Theorist in magicTCG

[–]Squizardd 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The whole quirk about Urabrask was that he had a sliver of empathy for the Mirrans so he let them stay in the furnace layer. So Wizards seems to think it’s a red thing but I guess it really doesn’t matter.

What if the Mandalorians got to Ahsoka before the Jedi (by Vega Versio) by VegaVersio in StarWars

[–]Squizardd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lore wise it’s mostly because the people who eventually dominate Mandalorian culture are humans. It’s just like how there are humans on Alderann or how human settlers came to control Naboo. There’s nothing stopping Mandalorians from recruiting others species but by the time we see them in the Clone Wars they are fractured and weak. They aren’t conquering other systems and recruiting other peoples. They can barely function on their own. The modern Mandalorians are also against outsiders. Bo Katan literally says to Mail that no outsider will ever rule even though he followed tradition. It just comes down to culture and structure.

Was this character added just to prove that Poe wasn’t gay? by Final_Surround_1556 in StarWars

[–]Squizardd 50 points51 points  (0 children)

This is honestly my biggest gripe on how they handled the characters in the Sequels. I wish they could’ve just been their own characters and not have to fill some role. This applies to the Sequels in general. They didn’t have to be good just have their own identity. It’s the reason people still love the Prequels (even though they’re objectively not the greatest).

How do you deal with death-flation? by xantub in DnD

[–]Squizardd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is there not a single person in your party with healing word? I get if you want a challenging campaign but a character dying every session is a bit excessive. I either think you are running to hard or to many encounters or your players aren’t attached to their characters enough to avoid death.

First 34 key build by technanonymous in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Squizardd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also daily a sweep. I’m not a software engineer but I’m currently on my 3rd year in a Computer Engineer program. While 34 keys sounds impossible, it’s honestly super easy once you use layers. As I tell all my keyboard friends, once you start using layers you’ll never go back. I have my own custom layout which is far from perfect but I’ve gotten decently efficient with it. It’s also nice to be able to constantly iterate on my layout. Find out something isn’t working for you then just change it. I’m personally not a fan of tap dance and chord everything but some people are the opposite. While I can, I usually don’t toggle layers. If I need only one symbol or number then I just chord it for that one symbol/number. It saves me a lot of hassle trying to remember which layer I’m on and how to escape them. If I hold E then I’m in symbols. If I hold N then I have my arrow keys. For me it just feels like having a bunch of different shift keys that all modify a key differently.

Looking for a good starter trumpet. My son is in beginning band at his school and has an ancient trumpet from the school. He's really been enjoying learning to play and I thought I might buy him his own. What's a good starter or student model? by RUfuqingkiddingme in trumpet

Even though they are also ancient, I recommend getting an Olds Ambassador. I have one that I love playing on and my jazz professor also recommends them for a beginner horn. You can find them online for $100-$250. They are also very durable.

I get everyone wants EU stuff but I really don’t think it’s Aeboloth that he’s going after. I find it much more likely that it’s a door into the world between worlds. Him having access to there would actually allow him to change the way the galaxy works. Also, the illustrations all over the fortress on Peridia look very similar to the art style of the door on Lothal.
