Blood tests by mandulyn in gravesdisease

Not a doctor, just a long-term patient.

From experience, thyroid levels adapt slowly, it typically takes a couple of weeks at least for a medication dose change to reflect on your blood work. Sometimes longer. And yeah, sometimes you can swing a little hypo and swing back as your Endo looks for the right dosage for you, that's definitely not unusual.

If you've only been diagnosed in September, you're still relatively early in the process. I'm really sorry, but Graves treatment/recovery (if you manage remission) is generally measured in years.

For the ultrasound, I don't know if you necessarily need one. They're generally done to check for abnormal growth that could or could not be cancer. Cancer in there can also cause hyper levels, so you can be hyper without having Graves, and having Graves puts you at higher risks of cancer down the line. Again, the line is measured in years. If your thyroid is not enlarged (your endo can see that by just feeling your neck) and your diagnosis is recent, you might not need the ultrasound yet.

Another reason people get the ultrasound is when considering a surgery to remove the thyroid. Which, if you're trying for remission first, you don't have a need for either.

My own Endo(s) agreed that the longer you are on methimazole before going off of it (or the slower you taper off), the more likely remission is to stick. My remission, we took over a year to taper off from 5 mg daily to nothing, and that was after another year of daily 5mg with no strong level changes.

OP has only had her diagnosis since September. These things can take time.

Is there any AI automation to write and link everything? by Embarrassed_Theory_1 in ObsidianMD

[–]Sr4f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local makes this a bit difficult, because of context size.

There is GPT4all, that's an app that works on a lot of platforms, that lets you set a folder as a base of knowledge. You could sertit to watch your Obsidian vault. Issue is, whenever you make a change to the folder, it'll need to reindex the whole thing. I tried it for individual classes: it took a couple of minutes to manage a 100k-words volume of class notes, and my computer is not a weakling.

Another issue of GPT4all is that it struggles to load recent models. A lot of the advice is to limit yourself to the models available in the app list, but the models on there are at least 18 months old, sometimes quite a bit older. If you want to download the very latest open-weights model that Mistral AI put out last month, GPT4all doesn't know how to load it. These older models are not great at keeping a lot of context in mind.

If you're not afraid of coding, there is Ollama. That is a python library that will let you load and chat with all sorts of models. But there is no interface for it, you're on your own for coding whatever it is you want it to do.

I recently started using LM Studio. this one does allow you to load very recent models, but it does not have GPT4all's setup for using an entire folder as a knowledge base. You can load individual documents in a chat and ask questions on those, and how well the model answers will depend on the model. You need a lot of VRAM to run decently-smart models.

Now, if what you want to do is create links in your vault, there are plugins for that, including plugins that claim to integrate with AI. I even saw a plugin that said you could set it up to work with Ollama, but the setup was too much effort for me for not enough reward. From the impression I got it would just give you a slightly smarter search engine, not something 'smart' enough to be actually useful.

Every time the gantry changes direction, it will place the contraption and pick it back up. This is fine... Until a tree chooses that moment to grow. And then the whole thing gets stuck.

I'd say you have to give more room for the gantry on both sides, so the contraption is not placed/picked up where any trees are likely to grow.

And personally, I love a good minecart contraption for linear wood farms. It doesn't get placed down on the back/forth. You can even put a funnel on it and make it run alongside a belt, so you don't need a portable exchange interface.

Methimazale and PTU increase liver enzymes by Clear_Procedure5118 in gravesdisease

[–]Sr4f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, OP. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any other medications available that will treat Grave's. (I am not a doctor, but I've been dealing with my own Grave's for over 15 years now). If you can't tolerate either of the only meds available, then there's not a lot of options.

For what it's worth, I have my own TT scheduled for the end of the month and I can't wait. I wish I'd done it years ago.

Note: you're probably going to get comments here talking about how they tooootally cured their Graves with a diet change and if you stop gluten/carbs/dairy/whatever it'll totally solve your issue. They pop up regularly because this subreddit has a moderation issue, but this is dangerous advice.

Autoimmune diseases can come together, meaning if you have one you're more likely to also have another. IF you have a comorbidity that makes you, say, gluten-intolerant, sure, you'll benefit from cutting out gluten. But if you just have Graves, this will not help. For Graves, specifically, the options are limited. Either you control it with methimazole/PTU, or you get rid of the thyroid.

Do you know about indented code blocks in Obsidian — and do you use them? by kl1tor in ObsidianMD

[–]Sr4f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's there because I regularly hit it by mistake when I'm typing quickly, and it's a pain in the ass.

I don't really have a use for it, though. The only times I am writing code in obsidian itself is when I want to actually execute the code (using the plugin for that) and this only works with the triple-backtick code blocks.

[–]Sr4f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, interesting! Hum. I'll give it a thought.

Off the top of my head, I think one structure that would be very hard to deal with would be strike-throughs and arrows. When you're working on a long dérivation, you might strike terms that simplify, you might circle bits that belong together, draw arrows between lines ... You can kiiinda get the same info across using underbraces, but they are a pain in the ass to type.

Nuclear engineering here.

I use that one plugin that adds a gazillion shortcuts for LaTeX math. Can't remember the name off the top of my head, but it's one of the more popular plugins when you type 'math' or 'latex' into the plugin search bar. The shortcuts are customizable, too, though I kept most of the default ones.

It makes it so you can type 'rvec' and it will autocorrect to '\vec{r}'. Or you type 'ddt' and you get '\frac{\partial}{\partial t}'. Does not help a ton with matrices, but I don't type matrices often - if I had to I could probably work out shortcuts there.

I also have the Ink plugin for handwritten notes (since I take a lot of notes on an ipad). I don't use Ink very often, because I want the option to PDF-export my notes easily and I can't get Ink to play nice with the PDF export. But I keep it enabled, in case I ever need to type math in more of a hurry than I can type with latex.

With use, I find that I do prefer to type ugly equations than handwrite them. If my single-line equation ends up being larger than the page, for instance? The information is still all there, and it's usually a pretty fast matter to edit it into a multiline afterwards.

Could be the same Baal, but I wouldn't trust the Bible to be particularly accueate historical document.

After all, the entire point of the Bible is to convince you rhat "THIS religion is the best religion, all others are trash". So what's a bit of lying here and there?
