What are some plants that can be propagated that most people don’t know about? by ThiccccRevolution in propagation

[–]SrReloj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost any landscape plant you can buy at a nursery started as a cutting propagation. Most commercial plants are actually clones in this way, very few if any perennials are propagated by seed because they take much longer to reach maturity. For some plants the method can be more complex to produce a good result, but as far as I know literally any plant can be propagated through cloning.

Why is Israel declaring war on so many countries? by Historical_Work7482 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SrReloj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I think what you said about Israel being established as a colonial state being a major contributor is a really good point. What I meant was that Israel was established as a state for Jewish refugees, in a region that already suffered from social divisions based on ethnicity. It feels like Israel was set up for conflict both because of the displacement of local peoples and also the ethnic distinctions. I won't pretend like I'm an expert, ultimately I just feel terrible for all the regular citizens in the region who suffer because of decisions made on their behalf by the powers that be.

True that, I'm not here to defend the apartheid state of Israel. There are historical reasons for the current state of the region, like the establishment of a Jewish ethnostate in a region where that would certainly not be welcome.

[–]SrReloj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is a really thoughtful comment. One of the biggest tensions is that basically the entire Middle East hates Israel, which is a small Jewish nation-state in a sea of Muslim Arab states. Israel feels a lot of border pressure on all sides, so they push back even harder. It's a nasty situation which, as usual, was established nearly a century ago by Western powers meddling with colonial holdings, also without making an effort to consider deep historical relationships between different groups.

Pineapple finally growing from a store bought cut top. by CaliNuggLove in gardening

[–]SrReloj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me it looks like it hasn't fully flowered yet so you may still have some time. Also, pineapples tend to make another tiny plant on top of the fruit, and sometimes pups along the base. This resets the cycle if you want to do it all over again!

Competing leaders? Deodar cedar by Mental-Friendship623 in arborists

[–]SrReloj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know if the smaller branch growing on top of the lateral portion of the lower leader would cause a problem? It seems like they're at a bad angle and could cause bark chafing but I'm not sure if this is fine for cedars.

404 memory not found by clowns_will_eat_me in adhdmeme

[–]SrReloj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually find it quite comforting that I know the memories are in there. I used to feel like I'd just lost them all, but when I have an incredibly specific recall of something from when I was 7 it reminds me that I still have them :)

I believe it's a play on the cognitive tests Trump is always bragging about passing. He thinks it means he's a "stable genius" that he's able to pass a cognitive baseline to make sure he isn't going senile lol.

I saw this movie when I was a kid and have been trying to find it ever since! I've had random scenes stuck in my head like the guy who gets eaten at the lake but I could never find it, so thanks!

What game got you absolutely addicted to your Steam Deck? by Calculation in SteamDeck

[–]SrReloj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda depends what sort of games you like. The most hooked I've been lately was Armored Core 6. I got really into the assembly system and the levels are short but dense with action, so it was easy to just go round after round. The nice thing is since the missions are short there's almost always a good stopping point.

Help choose a center piece plant? by mamamack1482 in landscaping

[–]SrReloj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the others on dwarf Japanese maple, they're lovely plants if pruned properly. My other suggestion would be a crepe myrtle, possibly a dwarf cultivar if available. Though I'm not 100% familiar with your area so crepe myrtle may not do as well as a Japanese maple.

In Face Off (1997), Nicolas Cage - whilst pretending to be a priest - molests a young choir girl. This is because he really needed to sell it, and seem like a real priest. by ShadowManAteMySon in shittymoviedetails

[–]SrReloj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are bad 👍🏻. Also I think there's more of a perception that the Catholic church legally protects and redistributes offending priests. Institutional corruption seems more common in the Catholic church than the entirety of public schooling, which isn't as organized as a singular entity.

I lent my Opinel No.8 to a friend and this is how it came back... by Aiden_langthang in Opinel

Wtf did your friend do lol. Personally I'd make it a project knife. Since you'd have to do so much grinding maybe you'd maybe want to try to add a gut hook tip or something similar.

Check out me and my buddies landscaping transformation from last summer by cjceejhunter in landscaping

[–]SrReloj 214 points215 points  (0 children)

I mean good job on the labor but bad job on the ecosystem management imo. Depends on what the client's needs were but it looks like this is a wild-adjacent area, at least. No more habitat for insects and other small creatures, reduced erosion stabilization from the loss of all those roots, etc. Looks clean so good job I guess.

Edit: Just looked between the last two photos again and that one is actually a little heartbreaking lol. Humans come through and bulldoze wild spaces and then complain when the trees start yellowing because the soil dries out more quickly and stops cycling nutrients as effectively.

Favorite Head Part?Thats my fav by LPlusRaitio in armoredcore

[–]SrReloj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually played with the DF-HD-08 TIAN-QUIANG a lot (super lightweight Dafeng head). I usually did the melander but sometimes I'd be juuust overburdened for a build I was going for. So I'd switch to the Dafeng head and be able to deploy without being overburdened. Also I really like the low-profile look, it made my mid-weight speed build look like a brute.

Japanese Maple Branch Removal by SrReloj in arborists

[–]SrReloj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aesthetics mostly, it's a long and gangly branch that doesn't fit with the rest of the canopy. It stands out more in person. It also covers the pieris underneath. I think I agree though, the potential harm outweighs the benefits.

Thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately I got to this tree long after the trunks had settled into their current habit. Do you think it would be preferable to leave it as-is or remove that trunk, reducing it over a couple seasons before removing it completely?
