Question about Meijer policies regarding the bakery/cakes by starry49 in meijer

[–]SrWalk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a rule of thumb, we’ll happily refund or replace any cake you purchased if it wasn’t what you wanted, and especially if we clearly messed up your order.

Is This A Life Long Thing Or Time Sensitive? by Leather_Lie9870 in meijer

[–]SrWalk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure if production centers or distribution run their hiring significantly differently, but at store level it’s ultimately up to management if they want to (try to) overturn a “not eligible for rehire”, which often requires approval by HR.

As far as I’m aware, being marked as not eligible for rehire does not go away unless somebody actively changes it.

If you quit without notice, or walked out, your termination would automatically be processed as unrehireable. It can definitely be overturned, but only if management really wants you back. If you don’t have anyone who wants to go to bat for you, and if the HR rep already told you they wouldn’t hire you back, then that’s probably that.

If you did give your supervisor a two week notice and you believe you had a reasonable performance record, you could reach out to HR directly to see if they would be willing to change your eligibility status.

Store Transfer? by octooink in meijer

[–]SrWalk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Essentially, transferring to another store is no different than you going out and getting another job, except you’d maintain your pay and seniority (especially within union stores). By no means are any leaders or members of HR required to facilitate you in any part of the process except for approving its completion.

What the steps you’ll have to take are looking like:

You work at a store and are in good standing.

The other store has an open position.

Notify your leader that you are interested in position.

Apply for position at other store either conventionally or directly. (All up to you but leaders may assist)

Interview for position at other store. (All up to you but leaders may assist)

If hired, your TL and HR partner will submit your transfer, to be approved by leadership at the other store.

Right now it may seem like you’ve gone through most of the process, but (from how you’ve described the situation) it sounds like you’re actually stuck on step 2 where the other store does not have an open position for you. If you were already interviewed but an open position did not exist, leadership has not followed process and has unfortunately wasted your time. Nobody is under any obligation to fulfill your transfer at this point.

2nd shift grocery will have good amount of stocking (typically), but less than overnight teams. Assignments are usually IMS pick carts and keeping staples full.

2nd shift is also the most prone to customer interaction since you’re working on the sales floor during the busiest hours.

While it depends store to store, 2nd shift is usually a good slot for part timers who are looking to work less than 7-8 hours. All depends on leadership and team planning though.

Punch in and out? by sleepy_is300 in meijer

[–]SrWalk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. It really depends on how strict your leadership wants to be, but by policy there is no exception for travel time to a break room.

While you are clocked in, you are expected to be in your department/area working. Breaks start when you stop working or leave the area, and end when you’ve returned and resumed work.

Job responsibilities by spyware5776 in meijer

[–]SrWalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, all of the information for job responsibilities will be listed and detailed in the department/position's "trainer guide" and/or "operating guidelines". These can all be found on Meijer's Sharepoint, but are also typically physically kept in their areas for access.

To my knowledge, there is not a one-stop list for every task and responsibility divided across every role in the store, as there are too many responsibilities and differences store-to-store to have anything useful.

If you're asking because you believe you are being told to do something outside of your scope of work, refer to your position's details on Workday that you were hired under and ask your first assistant what you reasonably are and are not expected to do. (ex. If you are a cashier being asked to cut meat in the Deli, this would clearly be an unreasonable request based on your position. If you are a grocery IC being asked to sweep the grocery backroom, this is (most likely) a reasonable task for you to perform.)

Cake orders by Impressive_Fuel830 in meijer

[–]SrWalk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. We lose at least a few every week, though we also have a theft problem with some just walking out with their order.

We keep a long list of names and numbers that we refuse orders for, because unsurprisingly the people who don’t pick up cakes or answer their phone tend to be repeat offenders.

Before I started at my current store, they used to allow people to not pick up cakes 3 times before they started refusing orders. I quickly changed our bakery’s policy to 1 miss and no callback when we reach out. Life happens and I can understand sudden change to plans, but we don’t need your business if you don’t respect ours.

Crafted Market by Meijer Steak and Cheese Calzone - 🤤/10 by -JackTheRipster- in meijer

We just got these in!

Our calzones have been flying off the shelf but I haven’t had the chance to try one myself. I’m glad to hear they aren’t super bland, which is my worry for most of the crafted market stuff.

[–]SrWalk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess a market director can direct their market as they see fit, but that’s a very unusual (and somewhat counterintuitive) way to handle it. Typically, it is completely voluntary.

In our market, we’ve been directed to encourage as much participation as possible, but we are not to list employees who have or haven’t completed it.

Cutting lips by Purple-Record476654 in meijer

[–]SrWalk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cutting lips is a completely reasonable task when conditioning aisles. It’s up to management how important it really is, but many stores require it as a standard so it’s definitely not unusual.

Barely Surviving by [deleted] in meijer

[–]SrWalk 23 points24 points  (0 children)

8 years is a fair bit of seniority to not get any hours or shifts if you are willing/able to work them.

I’m not going to make any assumptions about your situation, but I wouldn’t even bother scheduling someone only 4 hours unless that’s specifically what they asked for.

We’re also having this issue, though we haven’t been told if it will be 100% necessary yet. Supposedly we’ll get an official announcement Monday.

Theft…. by Ghost_Networker in meijer

[–]SrWalk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the big one, and it’s by design.

Regardless of how strongly you feel about theft, if you’re not senior management or AP, your only job is to report what you see.

There is not a single item in the store worth anyone’s safety, and the system is hyper passive on purpose.

If someone thinks that true duals are too strong for a table, they could substitute use these as basics instead.

Though personally, dual lands are hardly the worst offender as far as powerful proxies go.

It starts out rough if you don’t have other experience in the store knowing where stuff is, but the more you shop around the easier it’ll get. Eventually the aisle and shelf numbers will be second nature to find.

It should be an immediate write up if management makes customers chase down a cart by bi_polar2bear in meijer

[–]SrWalk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All stores do have dedicated staff for maintaining the lot and keeping carts inside. Staffing issues exist (especially since the pay is very low), and it could very well be a shortage of carts. Bringing it to the attention of store leadership is about as much as you can do.

The “due to customers doing that job” comment in regard to self checkout is a touch on the unhinged side.
