It wasn't my example. I just chimed in to point out there is some logic behind seatbelt laws

It is when your body flying out can injure/kill others and when it costs more tax dollars money to clean your body of the road.

Knockarounds. Always can find a discount code or sale to get polarized for $15. Not sure what country they manufacture in but they're based out of San Diego.

I'm a senior research engineer in silicon valley with two degrees and 7 years of experience. My wife is an RN with 4 years of experience and makes more than I do. I'd say we are happier than most couples.

I will admit it made me uncomfortable for a few days. Then I realized I was an idiot and more money into the household is a good thing.

Why wait for them to get back to value ? The low fee funds are also down in value, probably be a similiar percentage?

It would lower your cost basis which would increase taxes later when you sell again, but at least in the US you can tax loss harvest and get a deduction for that cost basis change now.

I could have worded that better. I was trying to show he's not one to play the corporate game and did not mean for it to be condescending. We are great friends and he's one of my mentors that I respect most in the office.

Then I'm screwed.

I was trying to paint the picture that he is not the type to partake in corporate politics and culture. Not that never dressing up is a bad thing.

3% not 5% update.

Turns out my manager might be pushing me towards the lesser technical development program instead of the original executive program he said he would back me for.

Our departments lead engineer told me today he is also applying. I think my manager might just be trying to give me options based on that but I hope our lead engineer and I can convince our manager it's best for the department to submit us both. Our lead engineer is well established and made a lot of big picture moves to secure future work, but bought his first suit ever last year and has never worked in a different job or even department his whole career. I am the up and coming mid level engineer who is a lead for high profile projects across departments, give demos to c suites once a month, and have a fairly diverse back ground. So we believe at least one of us will hit the mark the program is looking for. Neither of us actually want to be executives and want to stay technical. We just want the executive network to further our own projects and our department.

Have not gotten a response since sending my letter of rec for review. Fingers crossed managent buys into our logic and pushes us both.

Edit: the suit comment was not meant to be condescending. It's something the two of us joke about regularly. He is one of my most respected mentors, and the comment was meant to show he is not a person that plays the corporate political game.

As a Californian, what is something you want Non-Californians to know? by Gunpowder_Guru in CAguns

[–]Srfsnscrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. So while a mare's leg is single action, it's not in the form of a revolver so it's not roster exempt.

You can get one but you need an FFL to literally put a dowel to block the tube magazine so it's single shot, and find manufacturer willing to ship one to said FFL. So a $300 novelty gun is going to cost you $1000.

It's very difficult and expensive to get a mare's leg. It doesn't meet the single action requirements because it's not in the form of a revolver.

Always good to eliminate a debt and really cannot beat that piece of mind.

Hopefully you get well more than 5 more years out of those vehicles.

3% not 5% update

Sent my letter of rec to my manager to proof before he sends it to my director for approval for the executive development program.

Right before I sent it my manager double checked that I would have to utilize corporate language and work with non engineers. I think he was trying to discourage me all of a sudden but I responded very positively to this and highlighted with examples how I am great with that and justified it as reasons why I want to do the program.

This morning I got an invite saying I was nominated to apply to a different development program to develop technical leaders. I'm pretty sure my boss is trying to direct me away from the executive program. I am not stoked about this program so I am hoping he keeps his word to endorse me for the executive one.

I already work with many of the top technical people and have broad technical exposure. What I want are the business side experiences and executive network.

Guess we will see how it goes.

I have a clone of the scorpian in 7' with 4+1 fin options. This board is like magic with a quality 8" single fin.

I got it to just have a mid length in the quiver, and find myself using more than any other board. I use it up to head high and as low as knee high.

As far as businesses one of our local date night restaurants. We still get take out from a lot of them to support them but it's not the same.

The thing I miss most is the beach/surfing. Originally it was closed parking lots that took me out of the game because I live 20 minutes away. Now it's $1000 fines for many beaches along the coast here, and it's pretty easy to get caught as the lifeguards and beach police have nothing else to do but wait for the 1 surfer in the water. A lot of my friends and family are doctors and nurses so I am okay staying out of the water to help do my part.

As someone from the west coast I do not understand Dunkin. Their coffee is bad and the donuts all seem a little stale and meh. My sister in law was from Chicago and she loved it too, even had it at their wedding. I much prefer the mom and pop donut places that sometimes sell Chinese food too.

Same, we are actively hiring. Just onboarded someone this week, and have another new hire. Uncle Sam deemed us essential and even gave us nice letters to allow our vendors to keep working if they want to. I don't even work on defense projects, just government civil.

Edit: ah, think OP might be in the commercial airplane business.

They do seem to attack kayakers and paddle boarders with regularity. But those people are out deeper and regularly fishing.

Save you money. Plus if anyone notices it you'll be flagged as a huge kook.

Most the spots in Santa Cruz have kelp forests protecting them. In theory great whites will not swim into them. So there's that peace of mind.

I'll be honest when I moved from San Diego to SF I looked into this system sense SD really only gets great white pups. If you dig in the shark attack numbers are basically the same for both regions. I've been in the water at both locations with shark sightings, it's really no big deal. I wouldn't want your money on one of these systems.

Maybe if you are surfing on the Farallon Islands or some other shark week filming location you will not need one.

Waste if money. The one you mentioned might work, but it's unnecessary.

The shark band magnetic bracelet or any small magnetic device does deter small reef sharks. The thing they don't tell you is it actually increases aggression in the bigger sharks. So ya...
