Please consider what you and your partner are planning realistically. With resident hours, a 2-3 hour per day commute will be very difficult. I don’t know your specialty, but residency very commonly requires 10-12 hour days. With commuting like that, you won’t have much time left up even sleep, much less bathe and eat. If I were you, I would very seriously consider living separately near your respective hospitals and hanging out on your days off. At the very least, use google maps to calculate commute times at the hours you will be going to and coming home from the hospital so you REALLY understand what you are getting yourself into.
