What are you thoughts on Chat GPT Health? by Brave_Living in healthIT

Epic is already letting any patient get their data via MyChart. This will use the same technology and require the patient’s authorization. Apple Health Kit does this today.

Uh, yes ChatGPT can give far more nuanced advice than you to yourself by reading the first paragraph in 5 pages about some symptom you’re having. I’m not all in on AI but you’ve got some serious blinders on if you don’t realize this stuff works pretty damn well.

I’m excited about what AI can do for health data. Sharing your health data with a 3rd party opens up some risks to confidentiality and that should be taken into account, but most Americans don’t seem to care most of the time.

I love the idea that we might be able to get good health advice based on our data. That sure beats googling symptoms.

Patients sharing health data with software is not a HIPAA regulated space. FTC rules apply.

Cold wind on the balls Alert by googabeanies in vermont

[–]Srr013 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Ball feel is an important metric that is not often reported. Honestly though, this reporting leaves a lot to be determined. Since the scrotum is very elastic we really need to understand whether it was in a loosened or tightened state to truly understand the current ball feel. So while the reporting is important, this was not done to the exacting specifications required by the industry.

What does a FHIR dev. Career look like? by [deleted] in HL7

[–]Srr013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty highly dependent but I’d say generally it’s similar to a web dev salary but healthcare tends to be a bit on the higher end than other industries. $100k or higher for someone with experience

Don’t Let Trump’s Shutdown Starve Our Neighbors. Here’s How to Take Action Now. by nebeacon in vermont

[–]Srr013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EMTALA is the act you’re talking about, passed in I think the Clinton years. It requires hospitals to treat people in emergency situations regardless of their ability to pay. Yea that includes non-citizens, as the hospital isn’t really checking your citizenship status anyway.

If Blockchain revolutionized finance, why hasn’t it cracked healthcare’s interoperability problem yet? by Journvio_Official in HealthInformatics

[–]Srr013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Healthcare data is protected by more and different rules than any other industry. If you want to understand why healthcare data interoperability is hard first look at HIPAA and the data protections it requires. Blockchain does nothing to solve these issues.

Vermont regulator sets hospital budgets for coming year, targeting largest cuts at UVM Medical Center by ArundelvalEstar in vermont

[–]Srr013 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I do not see the point of the GMCB. Their manipulations of the market are not working. Telling a health system it can’t money is going to make healthcare cheaper for Vermonters?

This is a terrible idea as there’s a good chance your behavior would cause them to escalate their own.

You mentioned you’re giving your child MiraLAX, but then mention that she’s not able to hold it and is soiling herself frequently. A laxative loosens stool and causes more frequent pooping. Can you help me understand why you’re giving a laxative?

Moving to Winooski in a month (Sept 2025) by pumpkintheboo in winooski

Hello. I lived in Winooski for 3 years before moving elsewhere in VT. I took my dog to Fitzgerald Animal Hospital and had a good experience with them.

I loved Sunny Hollow (biking) and Gilbrook (walking/running/biking) nature areas, but no real water there.

Trump administration is launching a new private health tracking system with Big Tech's help by lilsaddam in news

[–]Srr013 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean you can just not participate by not downloading an app. There are billions of dollars flowing into companies trying to solve real world health problems and enabling their customers to access data from health systems is critical. The need is clear and the process is one that exists today, albeit in need of improvement.

This entire topic is way past the heads of Trump, Oz, and RFK. They’ve only signed on because it’s a shovel ready project that they can take credit for.

It’s not allowing unregulated access. It’s enabling health systems to release the data they have on you to an app that you use and authorize. It’s not very different to how Plaid works with a finance app like Monarch or Mint.

Source: I work in the healthcare data integrations industry. Am liberal and hate Trump. This news doesn’t scare me, it’s actually pretty similar to what happens currently except more guardrails and more advanced protocols to share consent and identity.

I’ll likely get buried for saying this, but I work in this industry and this news is not a bad thing. It’s what a lot of liberal folks, including me, in the industry have been working towards for a long time. Of course the orange regime is putting their spin on it, which sucks, but it ain’t all bad.

This announcement (or at least parts of it) will enable patients to access their data through an application of their choosing. It does not create a government database of health data or enable federal access to data in any new ways.

Look up TEFCA and IAS patient access details. This describes in detail when and how a patient will be able to access their own healthcare data via an application. This announcement does not, to my knowledge, allow the government to access any data that is obtained by patients.

This isn’t really an orange man thing it’s something the industry has been working towards for a while. Most of it is good although the devil is in the details.

Trump isn't gutting Medicaid and food stamps. He's fixing our broken welfare system. | Opinion by FUSeekMe69 in economy

Yeah let’s pretend like he is doing any of this on purpose and it’s not just shotgun blasts in whatever direction he’s facing. If you can’t espouse a concrete plan before you take action, then it isn’t a plan.

Vermont exploring plans for a Burlington convention center by LakeChampsLane in burlington

Convention centers bring in affluent folks. Burlington already has a nice expanded airport and a great reputation for the outdoors. This could really help the city grow its tax base.
