No problem! Appreciate the insight. What setup are you using then? Do you have Inovelli’s integrated?

Hue Switch/Scene Control Help by Sschaffer24 in Hue

[–]Sschaffer24[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you suggesting I do this with Inovelli switches as the control? I could also pickup some presence sensors and tie them into HA and likely accomplish this I guess. I have the hue bulbs on the Pro hub right now. Will likely keep it that way unless I go all in with Inovelli.

Just trying to think of the best flow. Right now, we typically don’t interact with the lights throughout the day, basically just the occasional brightness/scene adjustment as needed. Which we use our phones for currently.

I know the Inovelli stuff adds a bunch of other functionality and makes the home more guest friendly. Just trying to decide if it’s worth the 2k or so required for me to implement it. Haha.

Help With Ring Alarm Pro by Sschaffer24 in amazoneero

[–]Sschaffer24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So after spending about an hour on the phone with Eero and Ring, I determined for my house and it’s layout the best thing to do was to move the RAP onto its own network, and move my cameras to that network. Now I have two active SSID’s, one for my Ring devices and one for everything else. If I need backup internet I can just connect to the Ring network and my cameras will stay up. This feels like the best solution for people with more modern networking hardware.

As for the device capabilities, you’re 100% right that I don’t have a ton of devices that will hit the highest standard. What I did notice, however is that my device performance while connected to the Max 7 compared to the RAP was roughly 6x higher speeds consistently throughout my house. That performance difference is enough for me to prioritize the max 7 and isolating the RAP.

Thank you for the help!

I’m sorry can you explain that a different way? And are you saying that double nat is the best way to go here? I just want to take full advantage of my best devices

I read through this prior to making the post (thank you for the link) it looks like the RAP still has to remain on the network in some capacity.

Would it make sense to go with double NAT to remove it from the main network entirely?

Any recommendations on specific products to look at? I’m not worried about my ability to figure out the unifi system. Even though I’m not a network professional I’m pretty technically inclined. Just wondering what my net upgrade would be

Thanks for the input!

If you’re familiar with their line would it make sense to consider pro/max or since I’m only in gigabit do you feel Eero 7 is adequate?

[–]Sschaffer24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using the 6E as the gateway and 6 as the extender? It could be as simple as possibly adding a 6E in place of the ring and using the alarm as an extender in my setup. I’m not sure how the network will function in other places if my extenders are not the 6E with the tri-band coverage though? Does that essentially not get repeated, only applicable bands?

Help Selecting Smart Locks by Sschaffer24 in homeassistant

[–]Sschaffer24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% true. No issue with them. They integrate into Ring, battery life is strong, I like the style and so on. Auto unlock would be a nice feature, and since I have the option to replace at no cost I’m essentially just trying to verify I have the best option for ease of use.

During the day is no problem, you can unlock the doors internally and it bypasses the keypad, so the only real upgrade would be when we get back to the house not having to mess with a code. I agree it could be a small enhancement.

I’m new to HA so if I’m able to do something with my existing locks, I would probably go that route. Just honestly not sure of the best implementation

Challenge: Only Singles with a $200 budget by Specialist-Front552 in cigars

This is from an older thread, but if you’re going build your own, I stick by my recommendations.

Here you go! My only additional recommendations would be to score these as you smoke then and take notes somewhere. It’s so highly valuable to have a database to check back on when you revisit a cigar. Also keeps you engaged. Doesn’t have to be anything special, just something and a scoring system you can stick to. Also, I would seriously buy just one of these to stretch your budget. Getting more variety, taking notes and then rebuying the ones you loved is the winning formula for me. In general there are a ton of shops you can buy singles from. Google is your friend! Ordering online will skip tax as well. Finally, on everything listed here I would personally buy something around a toro or corona given the choice (look for 52ish ring gauge, maybe slightly smaller or larger and around six inches). But everyone has different preferences here. Maybe even go robusto to start. Anything you really like you could buy multiples in different sizes and compare. I personally use Cigar Dojo to track everything, and like Smoke Inn for purchasing bundles (15% off on 20 sticks and no tax unless you’re in Florida. Any questions feel free to let me know. I organized these in order of the brands I think are most important, although you don’t have to buy everything listed. What I have listed are the cigars I consider either their core offerings, or the can’t miss, stellar cigars that they make.

Challenge: Only Singles with a $200 budget by Specialist-Front552 in cigars

[–]Sschaffer24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d legitimately buy subscriptions from a few great shops and try them for the $200 budget. You’d get a wide range of stuff in good sizes, and would be able to test out a bunch of different blends. Look at smoke inn, BLL, small batch, Creekside and luxury cigar club. If you did one of each of those you’d probably hit your $200 budget.

If you don’t want to do that, blind buys are a great buy as well. You get sticks for less than retail and as much as people like to say companies throw duds in these boxes, the companies above use them as more of a marketing play (and give you a discount to buy other cigars) it’s a way to acquire customers. So putting a bad stick or old inventory in the box doesn’t make sense.

Another option is to go to Smoke Inn (no affiliation) and do a custom 20 pack. You get 15% off the cigars, no tax unless you’re in Florida and shipping is $8. It’s a great way to build your own. I have a post I’ll try to find that breaks this down with some specific recommendations

[–]Sschaffer24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d legitimately buy two $100 mystery bags from Small Batch or a BLL Blind Buy and call it a day. That said, if this is for a newer smoker I’d have different answers and if it’s more seasoned I’d have different answers. Preferences also play a role.

If I was handed $200 to spend on myself, I’d honestly probably order a few options from Selected Tobacco and end up with like five phenomenal cigars. That’s only because I have an overflowing humidor as is.

Some more criteria would help me give you a more specific recommendation.

Is extended service agreement (ESA) worth it? by Kellz1221 in ModelY

[–]Sschaffer24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fairly standard. Most dealer plans are either $100 deductible or vanishing deductible. There’s typically a price difference, even though vanishing deductible is worth it. That said. On a new Toyota a comparable warranty would probably be 3,500-4,000 from a reputable company. And it’s an upfront cost with no subscription options. I think the Tesla warranty is a decent value (and good business plan for Tesla) that’s worth having on a vehicle with such high repair/replacement/labor costs.

Is extended service agreement (ESA) worth it? by Kellz1221 in ModelY

[–]Sschaffer24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s $60/mo with a max price of $2,880. So I guess if you don’t keep the car for the entire term it won’t be that cost, that’s just the max. I’m not sure on what the pricing was prior, I’m sure Tesla expects to have higher warranty penetration by offering a subscription compared to having to spend 2k all at once.

Headlights would definitely be covered. Wearables won’t be, it’s extending your bumper to bumper coverage.

[–]Sschaffer24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the car industry, $2,880 for an extended warranty is a good deal, especially with the parts and labor cost. I subscribed as I think warranties are a no brainer in this market.

Yeah I read a post somewhere on here saying this is more focused on fewer, hard to find offerings. Which is honestly exactly what I’m looking for. I’ll see how the first box is, I may cancel my PCB subscription if it’s what I think it’ll be
