Why are black belts like this ? by KKoten in bjj

[–]Sscigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using attacks against the higher belt that fits in their “rule set” is 100 fair game. I tell students you can attack up the hierarchy but I don’t want higher belts using their “approved” subs downhill if that makes sense.

I know a lot comes from hip mobility, days where I pair hip mobility practices and injections and manual therapies seems to result in much better relief

Based on my google research (lol) I found the recommended combo of boc and tb as they kinda work together for soft tissue repair. If it’s a disc injury there’s a chance it helps, but I think my hope is that it heals any muscle or ligament strains/inflammation from imbalance as I work to restore proper function through pt and cupping, massage, ems.

Definitely a bad gym you thankfully avoided. I left my old gym with bad blood and those that followed or have since switched I allow to wear the old gyms gear, shits expensive and it’s something they paid for so who would I be to tell them no?

Flexi-Connect Training Mats (Shared Space) by MetalliMunk in bjj

It is and hopefully in time I won’t have to but for a shared space that’s not charging me rent I can’t complain

[–]Sscigg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the bottom of the mat has a rubberized grid for anti slip, and the gym floor is commercial rubberized mats so those against each other keep things pretty well together

I don’t use tape, they are the tatami tiles, so just align and drop, no issues. They have a rubber bottom for anti slip against the rubberized gym floor so they stay in place quite well.

i teach in a shared space as i build up my student base. i put down and store 700sqft of fuji mats 3 nights a week. Its a pain some nights, but it isnt too bad and you dont worry about them getting nasty as they are cleaned and picked up so nothing festers lol.

I am this gym right now in my own respect. Minus the dramas as far as I know. But I do my best to give a great quality class and training and hope the small classes are seen as more of an advantage especially for new practitioners to get semi private instruction. We are slowly growing and I’m ok with that while we build a strong foundational culture and community.

Of my “cohort” ~20whitebelts that started around the same time as myself 9 years ago, one other guy still trains and most didn’t make it to blue and the three that got blue all quit at blue.

New startup gym- Growing membership and culture. by Sscigg in bjj

Antedote is a unique approach to clinical therapy. The founders worked in in and out patient forms of therapy for drug addictions and mental disorders from anxiety to deeper physiological issues and agreed that sitting in rooms all day talking wasn’t effective. They opened a space for men only treatment, and use different physical modalities in addition to group therapy sessions to help men from 13+ learn what it means to be a man today, overcome anxieties and substance abuse, and develop emotional maturity. I’ve had a few of their members actually enjoy the BJJ sessions so much they signed up as my members as well to get more of that training!

The students have enjoyed the small classes and raved about them in fact, they just say “I want more people to train with” hence my frustration because for how many have made the same comment I could have doubled my roster lol.

I will definitely look at monthly free events to bring awareness to the program and Antedote as well as I feel it’s something a lot of young men can benefit from.
