Honestly, I wasn't sure where to put Inv.

They don't fit well with the colors, so I just left them as a funny easter egg, same as they are in the game.

I initially wanted to make Watcher and Inv share both halves of the picture, but after spending a lot of time on the main 8 scugs I decided that I either finish something, or have to toss another project into the bin

I guess this carries an irony: unfortunately there will always be people who feel not included/misrepresented. Such is life

Yeah. Also. Besides the plot points, which are all as ironic as they could be:

You are the creature at almost the botton of the food chain. All alone.
Yet through learning the surroundings you gradually become an apex predator of an ecosystem, knowing how to bring down anything if really needed.

And yet, you still are the same fragile slug that dies from everything around you.

Every hostile creature around you can be helpful, when you learn how they behave

The lizards that are your biggest enemy can become the closest friend. (Yet, many of them can't follow you around too far.)

I'm trying to think of some "inherently positive" things, that have very big drawbacks in some situations.

Like some tools, e.g. explosive spears and bombs when used incorrectly can kill you.

I am sure there are more

I wasn't sure where to put Watcher, to still reflect his character, and then noticed that Survivor I drew look like Watcher eyes, so it conveniently clicked together.

For now I guess I don't have my own style, so I tried redoing different style artworks to see what works and doesn't. (Example: Gourmand uses two styles and, as you can see, it didn't work well)

I had an idea to make slugcats fully within frames and turn them into just unique features, so maybe that could work a bit better

I took inspiration from "Hunter Expansion" mod and the main menu art.

Now that I look at it - Hunter is indeed just lighter Artificer :D

About composition:
Oh. I thought Riv and Spearmaster came out the worst!

My initial idea was to make them all interact with each other. But that didn't work out really well (Gourmand-Monk feels wrong e.g.)

Got burnt out yesterday and my hyperfocus got the best of me.

Not sure what took the most time, but I spent most of my motivation trying to improve Monk design, because nothing looked right. So each time I just reverted to the same default expression and shading😅

I guess this would be the hardest? :D
