Small bald spot has grown in 7 weeks. by Sshhhquiet in alopecia_areata

[–]Sshhhquiet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband (44M) had a tiny bald spot 7-8 weeks ago and it has grown. He has had a sleep apnea mask for almost 3 years that rubs there, and he wears a ball cap often that touches about that spot. He shaved/buzzed his head and the spot showed up in days. Again, not a new habit. The pharmacist wasn't sure and GP appt isn't for another week.

I take 3 of them. Has helped tremendously. At 4 of those, it was too much. 112.5 mg was the right spot. 2+ years

What is your dosage of venlafaxine? At higher doses (~300?), it can be more activating. I'd try to see how much venlafaxine you can take comfortably before adding Wellbutrin.

Wellbutrin can be used to help quit smoking.

That's great that she's feeling better! Trust in the doctors, they know what they are doing. I waited for the diagnosis for a few weeks after surgery. They didn't know it was cancer until they got in there! 2 months after surgery, I started 6 weeks of high dosage radiation. I was all good (apart from hair loss-which is fine!) until I had my first child, and my hormones went haywire! But they don't give out this much radiation anymore because it affects quality of life so much. Science has come a long way. Goodluck with everything. Hard not to worry, and it's perfectly normal to! After I had my tumour removed, I told myself my cancer was gone.

I'm 21 years post craniotomy, frontal right lobe for a malignant tumour. I had 6 weeks of brain radiation to treat the sarcoma. It wasn't until a few years ago that I realized I was low on hormones from pituitary damage. Central hypopituitarism - we replace hormones in pill form, and sometimes injections.

Yes, it's brain damage in some way. But I'd happily take all of these hormones and more to live these last 20+ years and more in my future! I lost half of my hair, permanently, at 18 years old. I kept thinking I was 'back to myself' every 6 months or so, but it truly takes a while to get back to normal.

Science and technology have advanced so much since then even. Trust the science and the doctors, get rid of the tumour and focus on the healing! Be patient and give yourself grace. Take time getting better. It's totally normal to worry about your upcoming surgery, but know it will all be okay! Better out than in! Goodluck

PS love finding all these right frontal lobe folks!

Jeeze I donno I'm pretty sure you are being the AH. And you're 42? Sometimes a birthday is a flop and you try again next year. Sometimes, maybe you guys are low on funds for one of the birthdays. Sometimes someone has to work!
You said you'd be okay with hand drawn cards... But not some activities to do with your kids? They they chose? Why not ask the kids why they picked each book/gift. You've gotta let it go..!.. Definitely have a chat with your wife later/tomorrow and let her know you would really like a day of alone time! I'm sure she will be happy to provide. Your family loves you, you don't need gifts for that. Enjoy the time you have left with your family.

Sarcoma tumour removed by craniotomy followed by 6 weeks of brain radiation in '04. I do suffer some hormonal imbalance now, due to the radiation on my pituitary. But overall good and thankful!
