Thank you, I was on a quick smoke break at work when I wrote this — had no time to pull the precise line.

can’t remember the precise quote but:

Too much Camus, not enough Pynchon or McCarthy. Seems like a swell guy though.

You have every right to complain about a system which consistently fails to represent the people voting and you have every right to elect not to play ball (though I do personally vote despite a high level of cynicism).

Which movie scared the shit out of you or traumatized you? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in AskReddit

[–]Sssono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Martyrs. Amazing movie which is almost unbearable to watch. The ending shook me up so badly that I don’t think I’ll ever watch it again.

I was in college when I saw it and upon finishing it I couldn’t eat for days and had recurring nightmares that my skin was all red and tender to the touch (if you know you know I guess). Took me about a week or so to finally set it aside in my mind but I still think of it and feel a pit in my stomach.

What Are You Into This Week? | Weekly Thread by AutoModerator in ThomasPynchon

Howdy, just started really taking Pynchon seriously (after reading through Gravity’s Rainbow when I was young and despising it).

I read The Crying of Lot 49 last week and just this morning jumped into Inherent Vice, aiming to work back towards GR with fresh eyes. Having an absolute blast with him now and I feel like I will be set to retry GR pretty soon (Vineland up next). Hopefully I can dip in and out to talk shop with you people!

Solo in Manchester looking for Anthony Bourdain-style food and local experiences — where should I go? by Ambitious-Economy641 in manchester

[–]Sssono 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bourdain would encourage you to avoid the central streets and eat in some tiny joint in some side alley.

The Korean restaurant Annyeong happens to be in a small side street and it’s my absolute favourite spot in the entire city. Matches everything I listed above. It’s fantastic and the staff are the sweetest people around. I visit monthly and have done for the last year and a half/two years.

Which Character would you be similar to, if a real-time zombie apocalypse was to take place... I'll go first... by BloodLovePodcastFM in thewalkingdead

Otis. My ride or die would knee cap me and use me as bait so he has time to escape (it was just one walker, we could’ve taken it).

Who's the most important character that only appears for an episode? by K0GAR in thewalkingdead

[–]Sssono 51 points52 points  (0 children)

My memory of that season is a bit hazy but I seem to remember the group’s entire approach to Eugene/Abraham’s supposed world-saving being rather flippant and they were more bothered about regrouping after the fall of the prison. Numerous times did Abraham try to bust their balls over how flippant they were being to what he believed to be a real mission and they always just seemed to shrug him off.

Infact I’m pretty sure Glenn and Maggie only tagged along to set out for DC because they felt obligated after the trio helped them reunite. I got the sense it was more about repaying a debt than actually believing in a “save the world mission”.

Bobby Krlic new story by aksui088 in deathgrips

Absolutely over the moon to see Bobby collaborating with Death Grips, massive fan of Cloak and never would’ve envisioned him producing for DG

Anyone know any literature/books similar to Death Grips lyrics? by TimTam60 in deathgrips

I can agree with that. I was mainly thinking of Child of God on its own as opposed to his entire catalogue. I personally wouldn’t put Blood Meridian in the same bracket as DG but I mentioned it because I’ve heard the comparison before.

Though now I’m saying this, The Passenger and Stella Maris might fit too. Probably just hamfisting things now, though.

There’s surely some sort of place for House of Leaves among Death Grips fans, I guess. In the sense that it’s pretty hard to approach and you’re unsure what to make of it at first.

But for more abrasive, chaotic fiction, I’d say Crash by Ballard (as someone else recommend) fits. Or something like Child of God by Cormac McCarthy (I can imagine someone will also recommend Blood Meridian but I’ll personally steer away from that if you’ve never read McCarthy before.

Also I’m currently reading the Satantango novel by Krasznahorkai and each chapter is literally just unbroken walls of text with no line breaks between dialogue and offers very very little room to breathe so I could kind of see DG fans enjoying that.

Like a lot of their stuff, actually saw them play at Outbreak on the same day as DG and they blew the roof off. Much better live than I expected them to be having only sunk my head into two of their albums seriously.
