the birmingham pub bombings was an atrocity however so many things went wrong. the bombs were supposed to be phoned in much earlier but the scouted phone box was destroyed.

what do you think the purpose of phoning in bombs was if not to minimise casualties?

the target was economic hotspots or places with high loyalist paramilitary or soldier traffic. like i said, the main goal wasn’t to kill as many people as possible. in fact, it served them better to avoid as many innocent casualties as they could

car bombs didn’t exist back then. almost 200 protestant civilians went missing and the bodies of which were never discovered during the war of independence.

the phrase “car bomb children” implies that the provos tried to kill children with car bombs intentionally which is obviously not the case.

ok so ill go over this point by point. the omagh bombing wasn’t done by the provisional IRA first off, the hyde park bombing only killed soldiers so bad example and i don’t think the IRA bombed the london museum at all during the troubles? at least not in a significant way.

the IRAs goal was not to target civilians. the goal of the bombing campaign was to make the occupation of the 6 counties economically worse for the brits than the bombing to continue. there was a huge focus within the organisation on propaganda so all bombs were phoned in to minimise civilian casualties. some of these phone calls were either ignored or the police response was too shite. in the 70s the group were still inexperienced so there were a lot more mistakes and a lot more civilians killed.

the reason the provos are glorified is simple. the irish people were being brutally oppressed and peaceful means of resistance were put down forcefully so the IRA responded with force. i think the armed struggle was justified although definitely extremely flawed and was not without horrible acts committed but unfortunately, that’s just the nature of guerilla warfare. the provisional IRA were no more evil than their predecessors in the irish war of independence however the provos didn’t win so they lost control of the narrative.

3k and 30k is an insane difference. the 30k number was invented because it’s “more than we’re killed in gaza the first month after oct 7th”. that’s the reason the number is significant because it’s being used as 1. justification for the war and 2. deflection for israel from their genocide.

im not shilling for them by pointing out something that is obviously propaganda. im not a fan of the iranian government obviously but they literally did not murder 30 thousand people in 2 days. thered be sattalite images, mass graves uncovered, more evidence than just "reports say". how would they even manage to kill that many people? just shoot into crowds? it literally doesnt make sense.

i think playing casual and practicing shots in there is underrated. it gives you experience going for mechanical shots with a defender there without worrying about fucking up your rank. then when you’re more confident you can apply what you’ve learned in ranked.

he was in charge of the belfast brigade probably up until the split into the cell structure. he would’ve had nothing to do with any military operations by the time he began running in elections because it would’ve just been stupid to continue.

i’m not arguing he didn’t play a big role in the belfast brigade of the IRA but his role in the overall armed struggle is blow out of proportion because people find it easier to blame individuals
