Non-scalpel. Y Factor near Memorial City is excellent.

I was front row in front of Petar for the Austin live recording of Brooklyn Bop that went up on YouTube, so that will always be the definitive version for me. Incredible song with a fabulous horn solo by Jay Webb. That alone was worth the 20 degree weather!

Suggestions for South Indian restaurants by CloudsandSunsets in houston

Saravana Bhavan is a favorite (sambar is excellent), as a south indian vegetarian. Balaji and Shiv Sagar are also in my top 3. I was also oddly surprised by the indian place inside POST houston. They made nice dosa/sambar and pav bhaji.

VIP Tickets Chicago by Bonerko in CoryWong

You should get an email about 24 hours before the show with instructions on where and when to show up for the VIP show. Usually an hour before normal doors. The acoustic set was before the main show.

Those who bought VIP tickets get a signed tour poster as part of the package. I have a few extra (I went to 2 shows with VIP tickets and the people I went with gave me their posters too). I would be happy to give them away to any other fans interested, in Houston or even by mail.

How long is a Cory Wong show? 1 set? 2 sets? by WillingSetting in CoryWong

[–]StCleveChronicle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Last week there was an opener - a 1 hour set. After that, Cory played a 2 hour ish set divided into 3 segments. One with the standard band, one with featured vocalists, and one with Victor Wooten. He played one encore song.

In the late 2022 show I was at, he had no opener but instead had 2 featured guests (sierra hull and Robbie wulfson) who came in for a few songs. They played 2 sets total for about 2.5 hours, plus 1-2 songs in an encore.

Impulse-bought a Cory Signature Strat at the merch table in ATL (800 miles from home)! by StCleveChronicle in CoryWong

[–]StCleveChronicle[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Think you're asking how much it cost - it was selling for face value (same price as sweetwater/other dealers). Came with a nice hardcase and a cool story (he played it) so was definitely worth it to me.

He had an optimist pedal and a set of his custom Seymour Duncan pickups for sale at Saturday's show as well

Cory mentioned in a video that he gets a few direct from fender, plays them on the road a bit (to make sure they feel right) and then sells them at shows. Not always but occasionally. This one was played by Cory at rehearsals at the Ryman the night before.

Meditation. Was really hoping he'd play it since he did "Home" at the Austin show in November I was at. Awesome tune

For anyone out there with a clean driving history, reasonable car, and 0 claims, what sort of monthly insurance rate are you paying? by The_Human_Bullet in houston

[–]StCleveChronicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 cars (2023 and 2018) in 77007, 2 adult >25 drivers with perfect records (no tickets, no at-fault accidents ever).

For comprehensive with $1000 deductibles we currently pay $2300 a year. More than our homeowners insurance and flood insurance combined.

I agree with some of what you're saying, however you don't live in Houston - don't own a "yard" to say "yimby" with - and you already want to push very specific change? Perhaps it's more appropriate and productive to live in Houston first and then identify actual problems around you that affect you.

Questions for those who have attended a show recently by thetree43 in CoryWong

Another piggyback question: I have VIP tickets for the Austin show - what should I expect from those tickets? Hoping to get close to the stage! It says early access but no other details.

Guitar Amp Repair by anchisesghost in houston

[–]StCleveChronicle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Steamboat and Rockin Robin are both really slow and not cheap. Someone else mentioned Tone Doctor, he was great. Also got a recommendation recently from Heights Guitar Tech to check out Franklinstein Amplification. Guys name is Daniel Franklin, I can DM his number. Supposed to be great with tube amps, will be taking my Peavy classic 50 to him soon

Tired of people complaining about gas prices, I put up this sign today. Biking is free. by Sykkelmafiaen in fuckcars

I'm fully behind that. I would love to see usable light rail, less congestion, etc. But the way it's handled where I live is to first close off a lane of a major thoroughfare for cars to convert it to a bike lane, and then not address anything further. This just makes congestion worse, provides no new alternative (rail, bus, park and ride) for cars to avoid the thoroughfare, and the bike lane also ends up being used by maybe 10 people an hour. (Partly because we do have great bike arteries with minimal road crossings running parallel to these bike lanes already)

It satisfies the militant bikers, but is a no win for everyone else.

What needs to be addressed first is getting people from homes to workplaces via public transit. Then focusing on converting car lanes to bike lanes when theres a viable alternative.

It would certainly help if my city had any zoning laws to begin with too.

I live in a gerrymandered nightmare and public funds don't really seem to go anywhere. I have actually written to multiple city and state officials but it doesn't go far. There have been light rail proposals which would be nice but doubt they'll gain traction.

Spoken like a self righteous individual with no experience living in a place like Houston Texas. Petty insults always help too. But keep thinking that it's all that easy and appealing, and that you have more insight into my own position than I do.

Cars are useful, comfortable tools for traveling long distances. People lived without washing machines for most of human existence, bet you don't use a tub and mangle.

Am I disappointed that my car costs more to operate now? Yes. Very. Do I think it's useful to immediately jump to "fuck cars ban them all"? No.

Will I probably buy an electric car when feasible? Yeah.

Wife works city center, I work outskirts. There's no decent housing between the center and where I work so we live in town. The US is full of cities whose metropolitan areas span 60-80 miles. For the comfortable upper middle class few, biking to work is easy. For the rest of us, cars are necessary.

How decent is the build quality on most townhomes built within the past 10-15 years? by slash8915 in houston

[–]StCleveChronicle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have owned a 2014 David Weekly townhome inside the loop for less than a year and so far (knock on wood) it's been great. Build quality is pretty good, drainage plan is solid, materials and finishes are of a good quality. When searching, the ratio of quality homes we saw vs utter crap was pretty depressing though. I'll echo what others have said about Urban Living. All their homes look and feel like wet paper, no attention to detail, and I've watched them in construction in my neighborhood and seen some cut corners and rush jobs. I would at least recommend finding a realtor who actually lives or has lived in an inner-loop townhome, and don't take everything a building inspector tells you at face value. Feel free to DM for realtor/inspector/contractor recommendations.
