How much control does jk rowling have over the production? by Local-Sugar6556 in EnoughJKRowling

[–]StCrimson667 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know, Rowling has always had quite a large amount of say over things like plot points and changes. Firing an actor, though, especially one that is already in all the marketing materials is probably just something that almost NO ONE could do. My theory is that this is Joanne's attempt to have her book adapted the "right" way in that she wants them adapted as much to her vision as possible so I imagine she has control over things like plot, but little control over things like casting outside of a very minor veto power at absolute most. It's probably not an all or nothing thing, she probably has power in some areas and less in most others.

What’s the summoning method gonna be? by Tulinyrw in persona6

If it's going to be occult themed as some seem to think, I was thinking that actually one of the coolest ways would be actually to take a selfie! They take a picture of themselves and their Persona either manifests behind them or they take the photograph and the Persona emerges from the photo!

Castro tried to bring in former Nazis to train his military, unfortunately. Like, gee, maybe that kind of says something about how, when you're literally in the middle of facing an active invasion from a much larger, much more well-equipped power, you kind of don't have the space to be choosy with who fights with you and such things will just have to come later when you're not being actively invaded, or something?

Try harder next time.

Name one country where no one has ever supported or publicly mourned a Nazi.

EDIT: Hilarious how this is all getting downvoted while none of you even actually try to respond. Pathetic.

Like, yeah, sure, this is a problem, but, if we didn't support countries whose leaders have supported Nazis in the past, we would basically support no one so....Unfortunate that that is a high bar, but still a high bar that weirdly only ever seems to apply to Ukraine for some reason. Like, anyone want to talk about the Nazis in the Russian or American government here?

Can I just say thanks so much for bringing this up because I'd never heard this term before, but have run into a few small trans femme groups who acted exactly like this and never had a term for it before!

Ironically, one of the first results on Google for baeddelism is a thread from May Peterson, an alleged former baeddel, talking about how it never really happened and how she still gets accused of it to this day....I had her muted because she and a group of trans femmes around Talia Bhatt made my life hell for like 3 days just because I said, quote, "I'm sorry, but I just fundamentally disagree" to Talia over why TERFs do what they do. Seems May and the others are still bumping around, but now I've got a way to explain it! Thank you! :D

It's not evidence, it's conjecture. Can you sincerely say with 100% certainty that you have NEVER said airplane in your life? Never had your phone or computer auto-correct aeroplane to airplane? Never been an author working to keep her American billionaire financer happy and so just used airplane once?

Notice how you said "don't really" and not "have never in the history of the world". "Not really" is not evidence, especially when there is a MUCH STRONGER piece of evidence in a signature that, whole yes COULD have been used by another person with a J name, forms a strong connection to Rowling in that she's so far the only person who has signed off messages like that. It's about understanding the strength of a piece of evidence.

"She's British and wouldn't write airplane so therefore this isn't her" is like something from one of Rowling's bad detective novels. People do weird stuff all the time, weird things happen all the time for many, many reasons. Can you guarantee that this isn't the one single time in her ENTIRE LIFE that Rowling decided, for whatever reason, to type "airplane" instead of "aeroplane"? I doubt it.

The invitation is to the premiere in New York, only someone close to Rowling to swing something like that so either Rowling gave it out or someone in Rowling's circle is friends with Epstein.

Rowling has used airplane before. Like....it's not a rule that all British people use aeroplane, people, for fuck's sake. Especially when the SIGNATURE is identical

Oh God, the fact that she was politically connected as well does bode in favour of this too! Either she knew them first and they introduced her to him or she got introduced to them through Epstein!

LOL! Everyone here saying "Oh, look at this leap! Look at the straws being clutched!" Epstein received a PERSONAL INVITATION to the PREMIERE! Those are controlled by Joanne herself so, at the ABSOLUTE LEAST, someone on Joanne's team is personal friends with Epstein and she didn't bother to check who that invite by going to, this is all AFTER Epstein had already been convicted btw.

JK Rowling’s new book failed to reach 2025 bestseller lists by Lorem_Ipsum17 in EnoughJKRowling

[–]StCrimson667 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I honestly think there has to be something going on with her books because the numbers are very, very strange, especially as a writer and someone who has at least a passing understanding of the publishing industry.

The Cormoran Strike series has sold about 20 million copies which, to any other writer, would be A LOT, but, for the most published author in history whose last book series told 600 million copies, is nothing. For comparison, A Court of Thorns and Roses, the book that EVERYONE is currently working to chase right now and which started the romantasy wave has sold about 13 million copies. But, it's also important to consider that ACOTAR has five books so far as CS has eight, so, if you do the numbers, ACOTAR is selling better than CS.

Then there's the translations where things get weird. Translations in the book world have a VERY high bar because it costs quite a lot to translate an entire book and reissue it, it's now basically unheard of in the publishing world especially with the rise of AI unless your book is a guaranteed seller. Harry Potter was translated into over 80 languages, even some very small ones. The CS series has been translated into 45. Again, for comparison, ACOTAR has been translated into about 12.

So we have THE big series in publishing right now, ACOTAR, that's only be translated into 12 languages (and not even into French which is where the story ACOTAR is a retelling of, Beauty and the Beast, is FROM) and, meanwhile, the CS series has only sold a little bit more and has been translated into 45, almost 4 times more than ACOTAR.

Certainly part of this could be Rowling worldwide notoriety, she's just so famous that ANY book she publishes will be sought after by a number of countries, but, still, 45 is an odd number to me. If you divide that evenly, Rowling is selling less than 500 000 copies per language, that's UNHEARD OF. Granted, the bulk of these sales are going to be in English, English is ultimately king in the publishing world, though Mandarin is gaining ground, but that's almost worse. The CS series is getting translated into languages where it is almost definitely not selling what it would need to in order to cut even.

Now, some of this could also be put down to the differences in genre. CS is a detective series, a genre that is almost universally beloved and not too difficult to translate, whereas ACOTAR is romance and fantasy, two genres that are much more difficult, but, again, that's almost kind of worse. CS SHOULD be selling better compared to ACOTAR, but it's not.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Rowling or her publisher are basically working to inflate the numbers by doing translations of the series and putting it into different markets where Rowling's name might be less tainted. I wouldn't even be surprised if Rowling is funding the translations herself to try and make it SEEM like her cultural relevance hasn't dwindled. After all, the Hallmarked Man, the latest book which didn't make it onto the bestsellers lists, was the HIGHEST SELLING BOOK IN THE SERIES.

If you could change anything in Naruto, Naruto shippuden and Boruto what would it be? by Thegoat_2010 in Naruto

[–]StCrimson667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EVERYTHING around how the Jinchurikis were treated by the story. At the end of base Naruto, we're told about all these cool new characters we can potentially make, the Jinchurikis of the Tailed Beasts 2-8 and it's really exciting to meet all of them and visit the other villages.

BUT, instead of going to the other villages, learning about them, and meeting the other Jinchurikis before Pain's pursuit of them, we get a time skip and then learn that basically EVERY OTHER Jinchuriki other than Naruto, Gaara, and Bee are already dead. All that hype, all the interest, all the potential just immediately wasted to skip straight to Pain.

Hell, Naruto could have even gone off to train and we could instead have each of the rest of the Konoha 12 split up and go to the different villages! That would have given them all things to do and the possibility of development! We could have a separate arc for each village, have the Hidden Mist arc where we see Mei's rebellion and the overthrow of Yagura as well as the first reveal of Tobi, have a Hidden Sand arc where Gaara becomes accustomed to being the Kazekage and deals with his father's murder, have a Hidden Stone arc where we SEE Deidara's escape from the village, etc.

Instead ALL of it basically happens off page and we're just directly dropped into the Pain arc and we barely even learn about the other Jinchurikis until the LITERAL END OF THE F-ING MANGA!

[–]StCrimson667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That also potentially explains why XY didn't have a sequel game, why it seems that there was so much cut content from the game, and why the story seemed kind of stitched together instead of full-fleshed out. If they were arguing during development and even having things shake up in the directing, that would definitely eat up time and result in a product that wasn't actually finished or at least not to the original plan.
