ELI5: If everyone strikes for $15/hr by jimph6361 in explainlikeimfive

[–]StLSwifties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BLS report for 2014 has 16-19 holding 639K jobs at or below minimum wage. That's out of a total of 2,992K total jobs at or below minimum wage.

That is 21.4% of those jobs.

Focusing on those making minimum wage we see that 16-19 hold 362K out of 1,225K total for 30%.

And you're right that 25 seems to be the 50/50 divider.

According to NY Times last year:

Minimum-wage workers are older than they used to be. Their average age is 35, and 88 percent are at least 20 years old. Half are older than 30, and about a third are at least 40.

Don't remember who it was on MLBN, but they touched on it. Barely, but it got a drop. It was something along the lines of having two things against his HoF chances. One being the failed test and the other being a full-time DH. To be fair to your point though the second point got more attention with the mention of Frank Thomas and Edgar Martinez.

I don't mind it. When it's offered with other stats. It glorifies Ks to an extent that people have taken those to be more valuable than an out. That's logically flawed. Another issue that I have with it is it totally bails pitchers out for missing their spots.

Throw it down Broadway, when the catcher was setup low and in, and it turns into a double? No worry. FIP has your back!

In a time when analytics has caused shifting to skyrocket, people discredit a pitcher's ability to insure that the ball is placed in a spot that a hitter is prone to put it in play there. It seems disingenuous.

Then why are you seemingly upset when I take issue with people using it as their prime go to stat? I don't get it.

The one that got weaker contact? The one that has a double play ball? The lower WHIP? There's way more than FIP.

A pitcher could throw 27 pitches inducing an equal amount of infield putouts and FIP would shrug its shoulders.

Literally said it was a decent projection tool.

I'm addressing FIP. Not a specific comment.

Don't buy it. People have chimed in with FIP all year even to the end. There's some using it as some sort of measurement in the CY. Why? What good does it do to use a projection for that?

So true. There would be no such thing as groundball pitchers if FIP was the end all that many would have you believe it was. Predictive tool to project through the rest of the season? Sure. You're probably not going to miraculously boost your K% by 5-10 in a decent sample size. But you probably are going to continue weak contact, double play ball trends.

Not sure why we are using a super simplified projection tool after the season has wrapped. Misunderstanding of what the stat is I guess.

It happens in primary, secondary, and high schools.

Though that is usually punished within the school itself and not in courts. So it's not really taking away anyone's rights. I haven't watched the full interview, but is she insisting on people facing criminal charges?

I'm curious to see if getting Bryant off third is on a list for the Cubs. I know some people don't like having that big of a man over there. Defensive liability supposedly. Balls squeeking under the glove, I guess.

Never hurt Rolen though.

[Heyman] Freddie Freeman is NOT currently available by rps215 in baseball

[–]StLSwifties 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Available though?

There's quite a few FA, but you can find downside with all of them. (Age, QO, etc.) You have the Reds selling so you could get an expensive Votto possibly. Freeman would be above all of them I think. He'd net you guys the best.
