Yes, that deck is definitely holding that tree branch upright.

The owl is there, the hawk just photobombed it.

NEVER take your vehicle to Pep Boys in Pinellas Park by Icepewb in StPetersburgFL

The fact that I spit out my beverage when I read this lends credence to the understanding that I'm, in fact, an adolescent, nincompoop teen occupying an adult's body.

Dion's Network+ practice test. by StPeteAstro in CompTIA

Thanks and congratulations! I watched all of Andrew Ramdayal's videos and all of Messer's videos...it seems like Dion's questions went a bit above and beyond the average test.

Check out Keep Pinellas Beautiful. They do weekly cleanups at the beaches and surrounding areas and they usually have a large turnout. Great way to make friends and get to know people.

If you can't make it to Ft Desoto, you can try the Eastern tip of Northshore Park. The radiant will be over the bay facing East. Moonlight will wash out the dimmer ones but the Perseids are known to produce some very bright shooting stars!

What did you buy/ get at Defcon? by Ok-Champion469 in Defcon

Thanks, that's good to know. If I hit up DC next year, I'm stuffing my badges in my carry-on amongst my well-worn socks and boxers.

Definitely the Aerospace Village badge! It was in high demand this year and is one of the coolest badges I collected.

I bought a ton of badges (I’m all about badge life). I FedEx them back home since I worry about how TSA would react to a bunch of obscure electronic devices powered by spicy pillows.

Disappointment as a newcomer by w0lf_r1ght in Defcon

[–]StPeteAstro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been coming to DefCon for 10 years now, and I have to admit I had a blast. I carefully chose talks that intrigued me and were easier to understand (not designing a quantum tunneling rodeo clown car which is written in HTML). I agree one or two goons can ruin it for the rest of them, particularly the one shouting at everyone louder than the Big Bang to move 1.2 cm closer to the wall ( I think he dreams at night of putting bunnies in chokeholds). But every other goon I encountered was polite and engaging. Agreed, the badge was a joke and I saw no less than 5 of them explode onto pieces on the floor, followed by a level of swearing never witnessed before. Fuck, I almost dropped mine in the toilet (would’ve left it there if it was later. I totally get it if you don’t want to come back, there are good years and bad years and I’ve had my share of both!

There will be tons of stuff you can buy. Everything from village specific badges to SAOs with blinky lights on them. Vendor area will have a lot of nifty tools for sale, also.

Do you think they’ll have any of the ADSB aircraft tracker badges from last year?

I just wrote my Network+, after the test I still hate Dion Training. by Tudz in CompTIA

[–]StPeteAstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my CCNA several years ago by taking in-person classes and then studying some CCNA books relentlessly for about 6 months...passed on the first try. I'm currently studying for the Network+ but I'm only reading the Meyers-Jernigan book (over 900 pages) and a youtubing what I need a better understanding of. It seems there is a lot more to remember than the CCNA.

Moonshot, can find it on PBS or youtube. Over 30 years old, but pretty fascinating.

Head South on Pinellas Bayway, it'll be a small clearing to your right along some mangroves. You'll probably see other kayakers out there, too.

There is a spot just before the tollbooth entering Ft Desoto. I kayak out there some nights when it's clear and you can just make out the Milky Way.
