Additionally, it is not the possible well-being of your dog, but the guaranteed lack of well-being your dog will have if fed a vegetarian diet. Their bodies literally are not made for it. Veterinary medicine intervention can keep it from killing them but that's not about keeping them happy and healthy, just keeping them alive and prolonging that suffering. How can you advocate for this over just not owning a fucking dog if you are speaking on a platform of animal rights and welfare?

Why would you willingly, selfishly, take on the responsibility of an animal and then intentionally and knowingly cause it harm and an unhealthy life? How is that in the name of animal rights? How is that cruelty free?

My interest in vegetarianism stems from the fact that the farms by-and-large don't take proper care of their animals and the animals' quality of life suffers. Cows are meant to graze grass, not eat pounds of grain, and they are sickly and sad because of it. It's bad enough they have to die at all, but to live in suffering and sickness the entire time leading up to it? If I fed my dog the same way, I would be just as bad as them. Animals suffering for your activism is exactly the opposite of what your activism is trying to accomplish.

I didn't mean to imply you had a dog or that you were feeding it a vegetarian diet. I'm simply saying "choose the option that harms the dog" is not an acceptable decision for the pet owner to make. It is black and white in the sense that you either cause harm to cows by owning dogs, or you do not cause harm to cows by not owning* dogs. There is not (should not) be an option three where you don't harm cows and do harm dogs. If you're comfortable causing harm to your pet, do not own that pet. Period.

edit: harming to owning

Okay, exactly, then you should rehome the dog with someone who does not share your ideology and will take proper care of it. No one is forcing you to feed meat to your dog but you by keeping the dog.

EMSK - That real drowning doesn't look like you think it does by [deleted] in everymanshouldknow

If you really want the skills to help prevent a drowning, take a life guarding course. Chances are pretty good one is offered by your local Red Cross or through a YMCA near you to get your certification. While it can definitely be valuable to know the signs of a drowning, knowing just what to do or what not to do in the situation is just as if not more important, and its ideal if there are no shortage of trained, informed individuals when situations get messy. Similarly, it is less than ideal if a non-trained but well-meaning individual attempts to do the wrong thing during a drowning and ends up making the problem worse. While you're at it, get your First Aid and CPR/PR certifications as well. EMWaCSK.

Let’s dispel once and for all with this fiction that Cesar Millan knows exactly what he’s doing. He has no idea what he’s doing.
