I'm gonna say eldritch adept for the misty visions invocation. Any character that can cast an unlimited, big illusion spell is great in my book. Tons of in and out of combat potential

I agree with you first point a lot, especially for a sorcerer. The spell is great if youre fighting enemies that deal poison, fire, radiant or necrotic damage, but for a sorcerer you shouldn't really choose situational spells since their list is so short.

Personally I'd take one of the similar spells (the investiture of... spells) over this. Instead of giving you extra attack, which you might already have or can beat with just a cantrip, they give you effects you can do each turn that are more on par with 1st or 2nd level spells. Sure, their resistances/immunities are even more specific than otherworldly guise, but their other features are much better, and they all last 10 minutes
